The problem of making new item can be handle with a few weeks between adventures . One thing i enjoy about playing tech o mages is that they have good understanding of both magic and tech . Their combat skills are weak but still useful as support fire . It would nice to play in a heroes world . The ...

I would yes for comic book reasons . you asked you player if he or she wanted to teleport out of attack range or take cover . If the answer yes then he or she has to take an action to figure out where he or she is at . If the answer no then you are dealing with story telling style .

one way is to have habits of the aliens . One game I ran the alien race liked shinny things . Most of they were not thieves or greedy . Their living areas were full of shinny stuff . one thing i found that works is making up some news headlines . Nothing to detailed , you can set the tone of world . Something like crime rate down do to the PCs , missing ships and so on .

I would think the ship's computer would take out of the piloting for the most part . A 12 hour skill check would make scent .
