This going to include their Rifts Earth gear, or just their Phase Gear?

The introduction of slightly lower quality force fields, that is.

I think someone forgot it! I'm sure they'll make sure to errata that one.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

The Scorpion Fighter has no shields either... but that doens't make the Terrans/Humans technological dullards.

It's very possible that the Kittani cannot produce small field projectors, but can make them for their starships.

My thought as well.

gadrin wrote:I just noticed in the books I have, none of the items described have Force Fields.

I wasn't expecting it for Rifts Earth, but even the Transformable Fighter in DB2 doesn't have one.

They're supposed to be an advanced, space-faring race.

Think I'll make them just below Naruni's level, nowhere near the Ugakawas (from Mindwerks).

'advanced, space-faring race' doesn't always have to include forcefields, because you gotta ask 'advanced by whose standards'...and not all species advance in the same fields of technological endeavor at the same time/rate....

Zentraedi warships are definitely advanced, but they lack shields(while forcefields on the SDF-1 and Masters' vessels seem to be the exception, rather than the rule). BY the same token, a Zentraedi warship could take a sort of direct pounding that would obliterate a Star Trek Starfleet ship with its shields down, since they rely almost entirely on shields for protection...and Star Destroyers have BOTH shields and armor...but lack the sort of pinpoint barriers that could have prevented a single kamikazing fighter from taking out the bridge and sending the ship careening out of control! :P

THe KIttani may have reached a certain technological point after which further advancement lagged and crawled...they may have been experimenting with forcefields at the time the Mechanoids wiped the bulk of their civilization out, and have only recently(with book power creep and the publication of Rifts Phaseworld) realized how behind everybody else they are....This could herald a new spate fo industrial espionage, refit programs, and copying by the Kittani, as they attempt to upgrade their militaries, provided their Splugorth patrons don't balk at the cost....

And another thing...the weapons on the Transformable FIghter stink, range-wise, compared to the ships of other nations....No wonder they're getting cut to pieces!

At the time the Kittani were created I doubt Kevin thought that far ahead. The gear in Atlantis was specifically "balanced" for Rifts Earth. I would think the Kittani have force fields as well as bigger ships. If you want to be different maybe they don't have the variable shield tech yet. Perhaps just the omi-directional one for now?

They are only expendable if there is an endless supply of them. Of course if the Sploogs are cloning them then they can be a throw away commodity.

I'm afraid you got them mixed up. it's hte Kydian that are extremely rapid breeders. Kittanni have roughly the same rate as humans.

Because Splynncryth saved the entire race from the Mechanoids. In return they have to serve the Sploogs until the end of time.

The splurgorth saved the race from extintion from the Mechanoids a few eons ago. In return for salvation, the Race is in perpetual servitude to the splurgorth for eternity.

and it's also important to note that the Kittani and Kydians, ect, are not slaves, more like indentred servants or members of an army. bound to obey, they DO have certain rights and privlages that go with their station, and in return they ahve their responsibilites. that's what seperates the minion races from the slave races: minons actually DO have minimum civil rights.

No, they're not Civil Rights as americans or most other free nations have them, but some civil rights nontheless. they have the right to own their own money and property (whereas everything a slave has is a loan from their master/mistress which can be taken at any time), including the right to own actual slaves of their own. They have the protection of the splurgorths law, which is harsh on anyone who tries to harm them. They have the right to form families, and genearlly speaking each of the races has a minimal level of local autonomy to provide and care for their own communities. Granted, things like the ability to talk back to High lords or disobey orders are rewarded with death (no freedom of speech), still, their lots in life ARE better than a true slave, which is why the minion races are so loyal (when in fact they form the bulk of the splurgorths power: if they were true slaves, they'd have rebelled by now).

In fact, most of their apparent slavery comes from the fact they live under a dictatorship: in actualaity in medival times the Kittani and Kydians would be considered "Freeman", they can do as they please, but they are still subject to the Kings Edicts.

In Fleets of the Three Galaxies, they have a dreadnought armed with a mass driver, if that helps you feel better about them...

There's one suit in Undersea's that a Kittani built basic design that has TW enchantments but its a mass market I thought. The Urchin I think. The Kittani mainly use that War Fish PA or Shark robot. That bigger PA suit (Destroyer?) was exclusive to the Kydians I believe as well.

I don't recall any of their PA from WB2 that has TW enhancements. I do seem to recall that the Kittani are interested in it and want to become rune smiths as well.
