Actually, Rifts is just as likely (especially with the availability of Shifters). There are even megaversal mercenaries there already, the Megaversal Legion of SA2.

I agree the Merc charts could probably be updated to include budgeting for space assets, unless you already include them under the standard 'vehicles' section...but you still could have ground armor-heavy merc units who have to contract for transport, or outfits that specialize in providing naval assets....
However, in general I think you can use the Rifts Mercenary charts to create outfits for Galactic campaigns by generally assuming that Galactic mercenaries are going to have a whole lot more options and power available to them at each appropriate level, so for instance "Headquarters' could include space stations and small moons/asteroid bases...
The fun concept might be to create a unit that's not big on high-tech weapons but big on magick, psionics, and primitive weaponry and tactics that allow them to go unnoticed, especially in an ecosystem, by tech-scanners oriented towards more 'modern' weaponry and military operations (like EM signatures, gravitonics, and the like)...

"Trouble rather the Tiger in his Lair,
Than the Sage among his Books,
For all the Empires and Kingdoms,
The Armies and Works that you hold Dear,
Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

In my campaign I have the "Spectral Winds", they are a mercenary fleet in my game. The have a tendency to hunt priates when jobs are scare. They have a Cosmo Knight who helps them out hunting pirates. His name is Steve Rogers, and yes he does have a shield for his CK weapon.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"
"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."
"As you will it, your Grace."

I always felt Dune was the "master" of this type of approach in a high tech setting. While they had high-tech, the little things were very important here.
Anyway, despite the high tech setting, much of the battles were fought with knives...except for that stoneburner
And any blockhead dumb enough to start spraying laser-fire ends up triggering a nuclear explosion....
