The gateway

Unread post by DhAkael »

This applies to both Rifts Terra, and the HU / AU setting.
Has anyone used the free-floating gravitywell in Saturnian orbit in any of their campiagns as a major plot device?
Reason why I ask is becuase it is THE major plot element right now in mine.
Just wondering how my fellow GM's here in cyberspace may use / have used this concept. :D

okay...here goes.
In the 'Aliens Unlimmited : Galaxy Guide' there is description under FTL systems (Re: Hypergravitics) of free-floating gravity wells. Gravity fields that have NO physical source, such as a planet, star, asteroid, etc etc etc.
At the begining of AU:GG there is a very brief blurb about one of these gravity wells being in a Lagrange type orbit around Saturn, near Mimas (one of Saturns moons).

I'm not pulling this outa my butt here people..it IS in the book...go find..go!..shoo! :P

Only reason why the Terran gravity well is unique is becuase it is so close to a planetary body.
Most free-floating gravity wells are situated a number of A/U's disatnt from any orbital body, thus the mystery of why the heck one would be so close to a gas-giant planet.

makes me wish ihad more books to look stuff up in.

anyways .. i think it would a neat concept, could be used as an explantion for why Rifts earth is messed up and inaccessable from space?

could also explain where the sploggies first came from before they figured out how to hook into the leylines that pulled atlantis backl into THIS dimension? ..

could be used to explain a ton of stuff ... not to mention a hook for the ones that need/stumble across a doorway to, say ... phaseworld?

either way, its a cool concept to ponder over ... now if i only had the books to do the reading up on .... *sigh*

It's not a question of smart or not smart.
It's a question of prudence or suicidal "hail-mary" bravado ;)

If that doesn't prompt you to buy it, I don't know what else I can say.
