Tell us of your Phase World Kewlness

Unread post by Spinachcat »

I am prepping my first Phase World campaign. I am interested in hearing about the experiences of other GMs and players.

1) Let's talk about an extra-special kewl bit from your own campaign. What was an extremely memorable planet, dimension or event in your stories?

2) I have the Phase World book and the Sourcebook as my prime resources. Is there another Phase World book that you feel is an absolute must-have for a campaign? Is there a particular Rifter article for Phase World that you would highly recommend?

If your campaign story is going to remain in one place, pick up Anvil Galaxy. If, however, the story is going to go all over the place, get Three Galaxies first.

Extra-kewl bit... probably when the mercenary team got a guided tour of the CCW's top-secret research facility thanks to some expertly faked IDs. they got to see the room full of psychic babies, the now-closed down Time Portal Experiment, and the lavish apartment where the top precognitives live and provide the CAF with details of the future.

Phaseworld is an integral part of my megaversal campaign.
And yes, it has a DIRECT effect on Rifts Terra, but in very limmited fashion.
How so?
Weeellllllll... at present, there is a Demon Star (Soulgrinder; one of the first Demon Star's to be constructed) trying to resurect its self near the free-floating gravity well near Mimas. There is a guild hall of multi-dimensional demon hunters from a UWW world in an embassy at Lazlo.
Stuff keeps falling outta the sky (the counter synchronous ring has been greatly reduced in denisty, and the battle sats?..gone :D :D :D ).
Oh..and have had players go tooling around in the Tri-Galactic system as well.
The Attorians are slowly making their pressence known throughout the Thunderhead galaxy (Transdimensional colony effort).
Thraxus is still...well, Tharxus! 8-)
Naruni is being pWned on the stock market (don't ask ;) ).
Much skull-duggery is happening as various governments and independant contractors are gearing up their naval and army R&D dept.'s . The Forge has 'streatched & yawned' and lots of people have sensed this.
The Star-hivers have some compitetion. :demon:

UWW - Sploogie border incidents....

Technowizardry on both sides, beats
"Hunting for the Red October" 6 days a week.

Adios

Not much to be said, but let your imagination loose
after reading RUE: Technowizard section,
UWW sections in the 3 galactic books, Atlantis...

And it will form a story soon.

Had a group trying to track down why there has been an increase in Demon Star sighting and they ran right into a fleet of them. The planet they escaped to came under attack and they got off the planet before a Demon Planet had it for lunch.

Of course it was Thraxus that was interested in these details and he later asked the group to find a missing Naruni Space Station that happened to be a major ship yard. The last thing the group found before I stopped running for a while was brand new Naruni ships (each had marks from said missing space station) attacking various demon fleets. Battles were intensifying all over the Three Galaxies and seemed to heading towards Phase World.

Cool DhAKael!! Love the name of the Demon Star!

As for additional book, Anvil is Ok if you want to get all involved in the Forge War and looking for the Cosmic Forge. The races are OK, but I prefer Kevin stuff over Bill's.

<start plug> Three Galaxies has a variety of things from new aliens and tech to dozens of solar systems each with HLS. A must in my opinion. <end plug>

Naruni Wave 2 has a ton of cool tech.

Huhh???

If you mean Vodka... Nope.

I used the "Hunt for the Red October", because the novel
- and the movie also - set the ultimate, "we are ghosts and
we are hunting other ghosts" submarine mood...

Now, both the UWW and the Sploogies are heavily using
magic counter measueres/magic counter-counter measures

Ie. detect ambush/concealment vs. prowl rolls are more important

Best campaigns in Phaseworld have been the ole' "lone spacer with heart of irridium" (more valuable than gold), or the pan-galactic exploration and finding of dark ancient secrets.

You can also go all olde chool and do a SW type campiagn with CCW Vs. TGE.
Better yet; go byzantine on your players behinds, and get them caught up in inter-house warfare and intrigue (think Dune). It's all a mtter of what the GM wants to do, and how much pain their players are willing to suffer ;)

It pissed off several new players who sat in on a game or two and left muttering never to return.

It's how we got around certain rules about the limitations of OCCs and magic items.

Yeah, I figure, with the whole set-up of Wormwood being so close dimensioanly to Rifts Terra, it would be a regular occourance for WW stuff to drop off on Earth (and vice versa). And yes, due to massive PPE reserves on R-Earth, the WWood symbiotes WOULD continue to function & thrive. ;)

I'm gaming today, as a matter of fact.

Our heroes (a spacer, a cyber-doc, a ninja cyborg, a Wulfen former CAF Officer, and a partial conversion Operator) are delivering a shipment of Hartigal weapons to the beseiged capital of the Central Alliance. The Golgan are attempting to destroy the city, and kill General Noldek, hoping that by removing him, the rest of the Alliance will crumble.

After several sessions of very little action, there is going to be a hell of a lot of fighting in this one...

Man.

The session ended a few hours ago, and I just have to say... 75 dead Golgan. We had more killing than a Chicago slaughterhouse.

The fight between the players and the Juggernaught tank was really interesting tho...

In brief;

Our PC group of gun runners is bringing a load of Hartigal weapons to General Noldek. His capital city is under seige by the Golgan, who want to reabsorb the Central Alliance into the Republik.

They got the weapons loaded onto a train in one of the outlying towns, and brought it into Augabin (the capital city) through an underground rail line. However, at the recieveing end, the Golgan forces were waiting for them (could it be that there is a traitor in the General's staff...? ;) )

One juggernaught tank waited in the yard flanked on each side by an APC. Plasma cartridge machine guns were set up behind sandbagged positions. It was going to be a slaughter.

Of the 30-odd Golgan who were involved in the fight, only one was killed by a gun. Every else was blown up by grenades or the 30-foot blast radius of a frag missile.

...but the interesting thing is this: as powerful as it is, that tank was fairly useless in an urban environment. It was too big to maneuver around when it had to, and it was destroyed by two guys in power armour who hid inside a building and peppered it with plasma mini-missiles. Thus, the Golgan learned a hard lesson: big machines have to able to fire and relocate if they are going to survive in the tight quarters of an urban area.

Which is why they are now bringing in the giant robots, which can move around a lot easier than a tank.

Unless the Golgans used something like a Bolo of MK XXII or higher; in which case, never mind manuvering, just plow THROUGH the obstacles, and continue to blow up the enemy as you're doing it. ;)

It was a NE juggernaut, right?

That hovertank, especially in a high-tech

I mean it has long range anti-armor firepower,
but nothing like the WWII flamethrower tanks

I will agree in one case though; Pwr-suits used properly can make an entire tank DIVISION eat it. :D
Hell, they've even been used to take out capitol-ship scaled targets in certain sci-fi stories (John Ringo's Possleen war quartet).

I agree that in tight urban environments that tanks and heavy mechanized units are in trouble. But if they bring manueverable units supported by armored infintry with UAVs. That might help even the odds against people hiding in the ruins.

Well... Why do the chopper have to descend into the

The answer is probably "give a chance to Godzilla

Most Godzilla, King Kong and other "giant monster"
movies have this hollywooditism...

...probably because in the first movies the WWI era
double-decker planes were plausibly flying too close
to the critter. But an AH-64 mounts a 30 mm chain gun,
not peashooter machine guns.

Another "favourite" was in the "Independence Day" when
a multi kilometer diameter giant UFO was attacked...
...by Sidewinders and Sparrows.
I am sure, that the USNavy were most glad to introduce
more of its gadgets. Like anti-ship missiles, bunker-opener
lasguided bombs, and the like.

It even look better on the screen too...

of the tentacles - ie. relatively small)...
