Part 1 of 2: Anyone got people going but not attending?

For discussion of the Palladium Open House, both past (May 2006 & May 2007) and possible future Open Houses. Who's going, games you're running or looking to play, etc.

Part 1 of 2: Anyone got people going but not attending?

Unread post by Chaos »

Well a couple months ago I got the green light for attending from my wife, always good to have permission :ok: anyway heres the thing she wants to me enjoy the entire week end and not miss out on anything but she herself doesn't want to go to the Open House, I may be able to talk her into a ticket at the door for one day but even then she won't stay long :( I want her to enjoy the trip as well she won't have anyone with her and I'm afraid she will get bored, I just started wondering if there might be others going but not attending like her that could hang out together back at the motel or elsewhere in Taylor (that will be "Part 2 of 2: What else is there to do in Taylor?") as she doesn't have a license she won't be able to drive anywhere while we are there.

So anyway questions are:

1. Anyone got family/friends going but not attending the Open House?

2. What are like and what do they generally like to do?

3. Would they be interested in hanging out with others?

4. How do they feel about meeting new people?

Heres answering those questions about her:

1. Yes, my wife.

2. Shes a innocent type of person thats kinda naive. She enjoys our kids (not going) and misses them but is looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the weekend. She's 22 a little opinionated and loud at times, she loves movies and is a huge fan of Elvis Presley. She does enjoy getting tipsy from time to time.

3. Possibly interested if people are fun, interesting or like minded.

4. Shes kinda iffy about it but willing to try.

Just seeing if maybe I can get her more interested in the trip (and more satisfying for her), she is making one of those for the one I love sacrifices because this is probably my only chance to ever go. It will be our vacation for this year and I want her to do more than wait for me to go to and from the Open House.

Thanks to anyone that answers in advance :ok:

By any chance have you ever been able to get her to play? Just curious, my wife isn't much of a gamer, but sometimes she plays when the group needs another player and she's not tired.

Anywho the reason I ask, is if you could talk her into playing she might find she has a better time, for one she could still spend time with you, and socialize alittle.

Hell, my wife is going, but she'll be actively engaged and participating, she caught the GAMING BUG a while back from me (yeah, I'm a carrier of the dread geek disease) and now has a terminal case of Gaming Addiction.

Anyone that's not to comfortable around crowds can always just steer clear of the "points of interest", meaning all the gaming areas and Big Kevin himself. He has a large following around him at all times, so there are plenty of areas with more comfortable crowd levels. I was on the opposite side of the freelancers table, so we had a pretty comfortable zone as well. The other side with Scott Johnson, Apollo and Kent Burles had some heavy traffic, but if you want to hang with some of us lower totem-pole freelancers (My bro and I) we had a blast just talking to people. We did have some traffic overflow from Mark Dudley, though. We were hanging right next to him, so we just talked to the fans that were waiting their turn for sketches from him.

I'm sure if some of the others like Perez, Williams, Zeleznik and Wilson show up, it will be much more difficult in that area, but still, there's plenty of breathing room during the actual event. Unless of course this year is just insanely large.

I loved it, but I don't really have a problem with crowds as long as their cool, or at the very least calm. The crowd at the Open House was very cool, polite and really brought a very positive energy to the place.

Anyone that doesn't want to spend the entire day there, I do remember a mall pretty freakin' close to the Palladium warehouse. I think there was a movie theater between the hotel and the warehouse, but I don't remember exactly.

Aww, don't be so modest. You guys had a decent group hanging with you guys when I was looking.

If I do end up making it and my wife comes (with or without our 4 year old is undecided) She also plans on not going into the open house.

1. Anyone got family/friends going but not attending the Open House?

yes my wife

2. What are like and what do they generally like to do?

well she is very nice, easy to get a long with, doesn't mind having a social drink or two. Likes to laugh, can get aloud when having fun, get be a little opinionated. She is 27 (same age as me) she does like to play Rifts and has played with our group, but huge crowds of people are not her scene.

3. Would they be interested in hanging out with others?

possibly wouldn't mind meeting the spouses of other gamers.

4. How do they feel about meeting new people?
generally she is good at meeting new people, sometimes she gets nervous and steps on a few toes, but who doesn't once in a while ?
