Hmmmm. No, I guerss you dont have to be in space. But remember, using a Phase Transciever, you are going to appear in orbit of PW, near one of the space gates.

So you might want to be wearing a sapce suit of some kind...

I am supposing, that Gadrin was asking about
phase-tech based teleporting, inside a gravity
well.

Which is certainly possible.

Maybe it requires "pad" to "pad" teleportation.

Maybe not.

Maybe it is just some kind of a very fast
OP movement.
------------------------------------

For my part I will took the last option - since I do not
want tech to be much weaker, than magic.

Adios

Your subject says “teleporting to phase world”, teleportation and phase technology are very different. From a teleportation perspective you could teleport to any familiar location anywhere in Center or using dimensional teleport from any dimension to any nexus in center or from a phase tech point of view you would need a receiver somewhere to phase to. Very possible but not as functional or flexible as teleportation.

In order to do what you are describing you would have to have a gate located somewhere in Center or on Phase World. In order to have this gate you would have to have access to a promethean to build it for you. Perhaps a contact if you are a spy or a business man if you are an investor. It would be depending on its uses an exelent way for transporting whole cargo containers to a docking area for unloading eliminating the need for transatmospheric ships or even ships for that matter, use a super can and attach a Phase Transreciever to it and bam you are in Center. As far a cannon is concerned there re not any recievers in the city or on the planet but that doesn't mean you couldn't build one. I doubt the promethians will alllow one to be legitimatly built on the planet or in the city for security reasons but secretly just might be possible.

I'm not clueless. And I agree that you should definately have a space suit if you try to teleport there.

might be interesting to have 'unlawful teleporters' [aka .. the ones that cheat and arrive via teleportation without the correct ID signature] and have them arrive in the big gladitorial pit .. where any attempt to 'teleport out' is negated. be it magical or technological based ... and have them as the NEXT entertainment ... until authorities come to remove them.

well what about this idea? ... a simple teleport from point A to point B.
oh .. did i forget to mention that point B is in the exhaust manifold of the garbage incinerator, or even some other spot. like the energy chamber of some large machine to .. remove the evidence? ...

Dimension Book 2: Phase World, p10, 2nd paragraph.

Its the 3rd paragraph that talks about space gates... :P

...And if you read on the space gate desciption in the second column specifically states that ships with a transeiver installed can teleport to one of these spacegates (which orbit phase world)... AFTER the prometheans have scanned the ship (via the transceiver) and have determined that it is safe to allow it to come into orbit.

So no you cannot (phase)teleport onto the surface of phase world via the Space Gates... and even if you were able to the prometheans would prohibit you from doing so if you/your cargo were considered dangerous. Now there is nothing saying that you cannot start on the ground and end up at a spacegate so that would be perfectly acceptable, though again you would have to watch what you bring along as the prometheans might not allow you passage and of course you need a space suitable vehicle.

This one is pretty cut and dried... I don't think the question even needed to be asked really.

Shiiv-a that is another nice and nasty place to put a permanent teleport point, especially if you consider that those people teleporting are probably not ready for any sort problem like that!!! :D

heh .. told you i had nasty ideas

* its how i, shall we say, vent frustrations in a semi-constructive manner.
* it gives me a world of possibilities. i insert a random name. i come up with a destructive end, and feel better. not to mention its semi constructive as well cause you have to think of HOW to get *name* into said spot for the reaction to hit.

* such a a glass of water on the counter after going through a tough obstacle course. they have a tingle of 6th sense, but there is NO real threat. what to do, but man is that water ever nice looking ...
* long story short, ANY of the water from the glass moving over the lip at the top closes the curciut .. releasing a lot of electrical charge into the room.

my comments and such, while interesting and semi unique, are kinda too far out in left field to be of any useful benefit. sorry

one last one ... works for pesky bears too i'm told.

4 tires on the ground a sheet of metal .. steel or iron ... and then a pull cord that you pull down and close the circuit yourself.

a farmer talked about his friends doing this .. and reducing the bear population in the area .. as the 'handle' was a rag soaked in sardine juice and honey.

same concept .. just dealing with the person on the metal .. just add in some mdc metal getting past armor to make contact with bare flesh under the armor/clothing ... then .. its bye bye unwanted visitor ...

i wouldn't know ... its something a farmer said would work.

you grow corn for a living and the bears destroy 95% of your crop and threaten to come in the windows or doors .. cause they smell food or fruit inside .. you saying that you aren't allowed to protect yourself? ...

where i'm currently living, a shot in the air brings in the police, the tribal police and the conservation officers. they respond when the nosy neighbours have nothing else o do with their life but be good little communists. they need to report any and every thing. even THEY allow the apples to sit on the ground under their trees, so the bears have something to eat. sad thing is, the bears eat the windfalls last. they'll destroy a tree to get to he fruit at the top, taking a bite outta each one on the way up. i've seen this with my own eyes.

the only sensitive point on a bear is the nose. the pelt protects them from electric fences. and if they want in someplace, NOTHING will stop them. and a dangerous bear is the one thats lost its fear of people. shooting into hte air, results in the bear loosing its fear of people.
my kid got followed by 2 bear cups as he walked into town. i was in the hospital and he was coming to visit ... and NO ONE stopped to give him a ride. they slowed down to stare and take pictures ... but NO ONE STOPPED.
even my brother had his neck broken by a bear. it killed him instantly. good thing. cause the bear then started to maul the carcass ... so i've lost what sympathy there is out there for the 'cuddly' looking things. they aren't cuddly. they aren't cute. they're killers. plain and simple. not to mention their nature's garbarators ....

BC, Canada ... in the outback wilds ... a minimum of 2 hours away from any BIG city .... i call it the dead zone ...

look at any altas and go from whistler .. to 100 mile to ,, say kamloops ... ? .. it kinda dead in there ... others would call it a 'green desert .. some others would call it a scrub desert .. me? .. it just nasty.

oh .. here's a thought .... what if an intruder gets hit by a security drone with a teleport signal .. and dropped off in the PW Zoo ... among some nasty display ...
that would be interesting ...

since they can scan the ship, it might be they can tell it's space-worthy or sealed for vaccuum and contains life-support (for any life forms inside). "Sorry can't teleport you, you'll die."

the exact knowledge of "scan the ship" is pretty vague. I can get a lot of mileage out of that as a GM.

A ship with a phase transceiver can instantly teleport to a spacegate from anywhere in the Three Galaxies. The prometheans who man the spacegates can scan the ship (via the phase transceiver) before letting it teleport through. If the ship seems hostile or dangerous, they can refuse to let it make the jump
This gives them the express ability to determine its armerments or its ability to do harm. While they also could scan to determine if the vehicle is spaceworthy this is hardly a concern of theirs and so probably wouldn't be something they waste their time on. I don't think the prometheans would waste manpwer to determine if the ship has a leaky seal or if the life-support system is on the fritz. But your "milage" my varry.

Thinyser wrote:This one is pretty cut and dried... I don't think the question even needed to be asked really.

cut & dried like the Mind Wipe: touching his victim's temples to erase whatever he desires. But they didn't really mean that.

My professional education tells me that erasure of the underlying memory would not stop an ongoing insanity.

MW deals with "past events, knowledge, skills" and "and so on"

An insanity is not a past event, even though it could be brought on by one,
it is not knowledge, though the person could have knowledge that they have an insanity,
its not a skill, though it could effect the performance of a skill or cause the skill to be repeated unnecessairly...
and in my opinion its not "and so on", as insanity is a mental disorder/illness (ie its a problem with how the physical brain functions and how thoughts are formed, and acted upon not simply the abstract of "mind") and the ability to wipe a "mind" doesn't give the power to erase problems that lie in the very proccesses of thought and cure mental disorders/illness that involve how the brain itself physically works. I don't believe that a scizophrenic could be "cured" by any amount of mind wipeage short of the complete and permanent mind wipe... and even that I am doubtfull as there are physical differences in how a mentally ill person's brain funcitions, and MW is not stated to be able to alter HOW the brain physically works.

At most mind wipe, in its non-complete verson, could alter behavior so that the insanity's symptoms are not expressed. Which is not fixing the problem it is simply prohibiting the undesirable manifestations.

But all that is neither here nor there and has no relevance to the question brought up in this thread, you did it as a personal attack nothing more. If you wish to debate the ability for MW to alter how the brain physically works go back to the other thread.

I'm sorry about you brother! My condolences on his passing.

I know what you mean about Bears being vicious and not cuddlely little teddy bears. I'm seen one close up. And being a biologist I know they are carnivores. I have never had any sympathy for bears. But I don't want to kill them recklessly either. They are part of the over all environment.

maybe .. but the most dangerous bear is the ones that have become "people numb" ... aka .. people can't drive them off with loud noises or shooting into the air .. having your dogs chase them or things like that ... they are dangerous .. THOSE ones are the ones that should be removed ...

but thats besides the point ... i still like the idea of teleporting unwanted visitors into such a place ... as a pen of carnivourous beasts in the zoo ... and then see WHO survives .. the beast of the transplanted one ... :demon:

I agree that those sort of Bears are definitely the most dangerous. And sometimes those might the ones to be culled from the forest, to prevent any dangerous situations from developing later.

that would be different .. an alien species that looked a bit like bi-pedal wildebeasts ... kind of like a subspecies of the minotaur ... ?
guess that would be considered to be a blend of a NB type of race in a rifts setting, might not really work.

anyways .. back on track .. what if the teleporting device was a one way ticket. to a planet a distance away, that seemed to devour PPE and render ISP talents inert ? ... think only rune weapon/items would be working ... but none of the 'spell like effects' ...

or maybe shuffled off to another planet where all 'modern' tech is rendered inert. feel sorry for the borgs then .. cause they'ld be stuck in place ...

or even dumped off in a mass of pink fluffy clouds. the essence of primordial chaos .. and NOTHING works, but you have to still find your way out ...

Bummer, that is a mild term for the poor players who end in places like that. And boy that is truely a mean thing to do to players. Although I have heard about people doing things like that to their players.

aha .. here's a horrible thought ...

you teleport to find yourself in a tube and all your gear and clothing can be seen on a table about .. say .. 10 feet away and some machine is going thru and 'acquiring new tech/info' and the PC's expense? .. and if they look harder, they can see the other members of the group contained in containers without clothing .. just like them.

*really gotta stop reading those cheap romance novels. they give me such naughty ideas at times*

oh the things a person comes up with when they read cheap novels of any kind. now THAT would be an interesting blend of 2 psi powers ... *shrugs* .. oh well .. later. time to let you gouys go off on a silly tangent again.

hmm ... i guess so.

well along the same line, what if the destination was the slave pit's and they arrive sans gear and clothes right on the auction block ... and unable to run away or use magic or psi for .. i dont know .. the next 3 hours? .. long enough for the person to get shipped towards their new home? ..

that would be fitting for a bunch of people i've run with in the past

heheheee
never said i was a NICE person. especially when the devious bug has gotten a taste of 'posting'

anyways ... just think of the '%' that would come your way.

or how about this .. the teleporter is selective. so that out of 4 people .. only one make it thru .. and the ones with the HIGH stats get 'poofed' somewhere else
the high PB ..... the high PS .. and the one with the highest ... say ... PPE or ISP ?

selective porting away ... so that the high stat monsters actually get a taste of what would REALLY happen to them.

there was this one person that has a char with a PB of 70+ ... and its ALL book legal ... but NONE of the npc actions were. go figure ... no that one would be the high PB stat .... *stops to think .. and then worries* ... well i do believe that most of MY char's would be sucked away for one reason or another .... except maybe jeckle .. or gayle .. jeez .. thats actually really scary

guess it comes with being a single parent, and wanting to exact revenge in the most interesting manner on a variety of persons. not that's a scary thought .. to want to do that. and most times i would have gotten away with it .. but there you go ... i think i'm one of the type that DON'T forget insults made. and figure out ways of getting rid of them

such as a person has Psi powers but no one knows that have telepathy ... and one by one certain people start getting edgy about stuff thats not there or nearby.

or perhaps .. you ever wonder what that sense or feeling is that hits you and makes you doubt yourself and your abilities? .. self doubt is such a nasty thing to suffer when your .. say .. building something mechanical.

think of what gets your goat up ... and how it annoys you. various feelings suddenly coming into the foreground and causing problems. think of the delightful things you can do to those that have insulted you BIG TIME.

I know where you are coming from Shiiv-a. My sister is a single parent. So go ahead and vent! We'll listen!

dunno darkmax ... and i don't really care. thing is ... YOU asked where was i coming up with some of these ... 'nasty' ideas ...

i got a whole bunch of issues that can be utilized as a nasty 'teleporting' freak accident ... or other things. some stem from the need of some chars NEEDING to keep certain things secret .. and some people just waltxz thru and disarm everything .. just cause their character is 'immune' to whatever you toss in their way

got tired of having people like 'god complex' rule the game and basically be the solo primadona of hte game .. and everyone else is just flotsam on the game's current
