Space Vampires
Wouldn't it be cool to have a colony on a planet defend against a vampire invader who arrives on an asteroid which is the remains of a planet. Couldn’t the vampires survive inside it (the asteroid) and ultimately survive reentry and retain (because there is rock from their home world) their vampire, ness.

It would be a verrrrry thirsty vampire, space is big,
especially when you travel slower than light.
Otherwise, why not... There is even the good old
movie, Lifeforce...

But still, one of the most basic rules for survival on any planet is never to upset someone wearing black leather - This is why protesters against the wearing of animal skins by humans unaccountably fail to throw their paint over Hell's Angels.

well lets see ... according to the rules, that IF said vamp was alive and moving about on the asteroid .. then yes it would be thirsty .. unless he packed for such a long trip ... using hte rules for earthbound vampires from the vamp kingdoms.
but say for instance .. the vamp is sorta in hibernation or has been sorta staked to the point where its in skeleton mode .. then it wouldn't need hte urge to feed and such ... BUT once re-entry started to eat away at the stake, or the rock thats been sealing it from exposure, then yeah it would then start to wake up. the light from re-entry wouldn't affect it .. the burning might, but its NOT the sun .. thus would be somewhat safe.
the rock could then be picked up and moved by said vamp .. while it went looking for shelter ... and then .. wow ... discover the smorg set out for it. as long s it ha its meteor to put its head on or something lik that ... it should be fine.
but hey, i don't have the book to read, but i've seen the book bantered about. but then again, i don't usually have a lot to say that people really listen too.

Creator of the Chi grenade. Used in game by Kevarin [GM] and self as Mai - Civilian Martial artist that got amped via experiment. Ghost weapons and shirts rule.
Nano Missiles - used once and GM banned further use. They weren't THAT bad. and did stop a demon scout ship from returning with valuable info.

Rather than blade style i was thinking more along the lines of Final Fantasy (the movie). The rock brings invaders who have to be dealt with however the planet is totally unprepared to fight vampires despite their most powerfull weapons. OVer time the smart one will figure out light is a good weapon but I wonder how ling it would be before someone gets it into their head to use silver. Wood, maybe if they are fighting constriction workers or something and use a broken shovel handle but i think the planet would realtivly quickly be overrun with vampires until the population figures out how to control them and eventuall get organized to fight them.

Tim, stop stealing my thoughts!
I had been thinking for weeks now about a blob-like, vampiric Elder Race (called the Sadut) that propagated by infecting planets, and turning all the inhabitants into blob-like vampires. Then, when all life has been eaten, and the blobs are starving, they congeal into one giant blob, and shoot their spore into space. The spore drifts until it finds a new life-bearing planet, then starts the whole process over again.
Might find its way into Thundercloud Galaxy. you never know... :;):

Hmmmm Those are some interesting ideas. :::Writting the idea down in my note book.:::
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"
"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."
"As you will it, your Grace."

Now based on another thread Gravatronic weapons will be the 3G favorite in dealing with Vampires.

if you hit a vampire with a burst from a converted rail gun there is a % a round will stay in the heart.

well ...
all the best when you do your bit with vampires then. seems too many GM's don't do the Vampyre thing right .. or actually well enough. experienced players NEED to be shaken up from time to time.
they know ALL about this monster due to the fact they've been playing for *shrugs* numerous years .. and as a result, NOTHING phases them. a called shot using specific ammo to the 'weakest' part on the beastie, and they're content to have 'defeated it' ... sorry. its kinda boring. better to take monster A .. and make it a genetic freak of the norm, and immune to what would 'normally' defeat it.
thus sunlight, while hurtful to the eyes, wouldn't outfight kill a vampire. what if the stake had to be of a certain kind of tree? ...
holy water. HOW is it made? .. from a tap nowadays. and then its claimed to be 'holy and blessed' ... well tap water isn't but .. say a spring on native holy land that is still 'wild' ... with a silver cross embedded into the rock and .. say wild garlic growing about the spring/pool ? ..
take the obvious weakness, think about HOW it could be twisted slightly, so that the monster, vampires in this case, could be thwarted by the meta-gamers. i'm kinda clueless about HOW to defeat most critters. but taping c-4 to the back and then hitting it with a laser helps ... did that to a baal-rog .... but hey, it worked once. a bio-manip to paralyze it, and poof .. *shrugs*
it does state in the books 'guide line only' .. so that means you CAN and should change the rules slightly when the game gets stale

Problem number one.
Asteroids move slower than the speed of light. Much, much slower. If he's travelling from one solar system to another like this he's going to be stuck in that hunk of rock for tens of thousands of years at the very minimum, and possibly a lot longer for long distance travel. Even if he's just getting from planet to planet within a solar system he'll be out for months or weeks at a time. And unless he bought some people along to use as snacks (only really possible on in-system trips), he's going to run out of blood and go stark raving mad.
Problem number two.
If he screws up, he's toast. If the asteroid misses the planet altogether then it's pretty much an even-money bet on whether it'll get sucked into the sun or go cruising out into interstellar space for the next million years. If it's on target, the thing could well just disintegrate in the atmosphere, which means he'll be more or less instantly dead if he accidentally hits the daylight side of the planet.
Problem Number Three.
Soil of the homeland. That asteroid probably ain't it. And even if it is, there won't be much of it left by the time he hits the planet, and it will be the only source he's ever got. He's insanely vulnerable if it ever gets stolen or contaminated.

well ... from what i read in the opening post. this was a race of SPACE vampires. thus they may share SOME of the characteristics of the 'vampires' that we know about in PF and the other Rift books and such, but would also be somewhat different.
the gent in question asked HOW it might travel .. lets just kinda recall that the vampire ISN'T a normal one that comes from the Kingdom book. its a new species that evolved. and is struggling to survive. personally, i think it would be interesting to find one of those types and IF a deal could be made .. have it work as a guard on a space station ...
it wouldn't need tons of blood to survive .. and if everyone is giving out a pint every month ... then the stock pile is always there .. and all guests would have to supply at least one pint to have on hand in case of accidents. and once its removed from the body, it can't be returned to the individual. this prevents diseases and other illnesses from being spread.
so yeah, while your comments may have some merit, its a case of 'what if' .. don't go by the book ruling .. he was asking HOW to bend the rules slightly so it could happen ... its not like I plan on heading to that game or planet ...

Yes the vampires on the asteroid would be startk raving mad, they would ravage the first living thing they encountered and would not be at all intelligent until after their first feed. After that they would be fneRallan wrote:Problem number two.

The vampire that arrives on the planet would have to stay in the remains of the asteroid. Like the bat cave. All vampires created on this planet would be normal vampires and be right at home. Eventually if the world was right enough an intelligence couls come through or the world would just be overrun with vampires.

OK, I just had this image in my mind, after reading this thread; the stake-firing cannon shoots the vamp square in the chest (called shot), but not only pierces the heart, but also rips it from the body, blowing it out the back of the vamp......
Or even still, all those shots concentrated on one spot shred the vamp's heart.....
