Unbeknownst to ARCHIE-3, a Cyberworks rival firm was commissioned to devise their own advanced AI system(as part of a competitive bid) and it was fieldtested as part of SHADOW NORAD, and being spread throughout several fortified locations, has survived....GUARDIAN has been slowly moving behind such groups as Bandito Arms and Area 51, hoping to infiltrate such installations as Lone Star and acquire more manufacturing facilities and access to a more diverse arsenal....In time, the two machines may begin their own cold war without ever knowing it, but once they do...North America may become the battleground for two ancient machine intelligences....

Actually from what I read about Rommel is that he never supported the racist views of the regime. He was a solder, not a politician.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

...and so we discover the KLS counter-part to the ARCHIE project; an entity of cold, calculating intelligence, with access to dangerous, forgotten scientific secrets - the lost augmentation lore of Harrison Danilek, the secret of producing the ancient Chromium Gaurdsman, and other technologies which border on magic compared to current post-Rifts technology... A titanic struggle between intelligences which approach divine levels, without the constraints of human morals and ethics to constrain them in their race to prove which computer intelligence will lead the human race in the Epoch of Steel to follow....

Holy crap cakes Batman, I was practically sweating melodrama there

The Cosmic Forge is actually the mutated equivalent of a Maytag appliance that has created a myth of its own significance to appeal to its sense of vanity...it's actually not all that powerful, but it doesn't want to admitt, nor others to discover, that it's really a glorified piece of kitchen equipment that got dumped by its owners by the cosmic wayside in the Three Galaxies while on their way to someplace else WORTH seeing....

What if the Arkons were stopped dead in their tracks by the orbitals?

What if instead of NEMA/the Republicans, the most powerful (human) organization with direct ties back to pre-Rifts America was something like the MacDonald's franchise chain...or Wal-Mart?

What if Ludicrous Mages deposed Allister Dunscon and set up ENTERTAINMENT(with bite) as the unifying goals of the Federation of Magic?

But still, one of the most basic rules for survival on any planet is never to upset someone wearing black leather - This is why protesters against the wearing of animal skins by humans unaccountably fail to throw their paint over Hell's Angels.

Well since I brought this up in another thread and theres alot of alternate earth stuff...

What if the Nazis (Or some equally nafarious 'group') used the happy face instead of the swastica?

Or for what ever reason some equally common and 'good' thing was altered drastically into basically meaning the imbodiment of evil as the swastica was? Since you know it was and is a good luck symbol and all. It was simply perverted by the Nazi's use of it.

You could make a whole world where there's a number of these opposites. The immage of a dove is used by a nafarious warlord controled faction, the peace symbol is linked with some widely known devil worshiping cult.

A world where Germany won WW2, a world shattered by the Cold War, a world where Global Warming has melted all the ice (ala Water World). Heck even a world where there are sentient matresses (Ala HHGTTG)

An overpopulated, polluted, and overstressed Earth, where institutionalized cannibalism and mass suicides seem a heartbeat away...is offered a second chance by alien benefactors to become their minion-race and favored underlings in return for food, space, and life-saving technology...

The alien benefactors could be Splugorth, or Naruni, or some other big imperialistic species looking to score a lot of cheap labor, disposable cannon-fodder, and cheap thrills doling out miracles to the desperate masses.....

Sesame Street had the advantage of representing a far greater ethnic cross-section and having greater international support than either Barnie, Teletubbies, or any of their rivals....

Recommended Reading: What If? 1&2, edited by Robert Cowley...essays on What Ifs....What if the Battle of Hastings had gone the otehr way, if Charles 1 of England had died of plague, if Adolf Hitler had survived to go to trial, if FDR had been assassinated, if the Franco-Prussian War hadn't taken place, if Pizarro hadn't found the Indians eating potatoes, if Martin Luther had been burned at the stake as a heretic, what if the Australians hadn't delayed the Japanese advance across New Guinea(under some of the most deplorable conditions ever known)....Good reading from some sharp minds.

Now a few dimensional travellers(or local psychics who have awakened to their powers) who can see BOTH realities are trying to spread word of the truth without being permanently institutionalized....

Technically we could be on the berge of the start of another Ice age. According to certain climitologist we could experience an ice age if certain things occur in our environment. This is even with the global warming.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

I wish I could say I am surprised by the prospect of snow in the middle of April, but I KNOW I predicted as much back in December...and darn it, I may right(or at least freezing rain)....
Watching the local squirrels go insane restocking for cold weather, though, makes up for it....

Alternate Universe...the Day After Humaity discovers from the astronomers that the solar system is merely one atom in the skin of what appears to be an enormous frog(or posterior end of a large animal, etc....)....

Each contenant is a free floating land-mass, large scale collisions are rare but are a constant threat.

A large number of the animal kingdom have attained self-awareness and are rather upset about the devouring of their forebearers.

Of course then we just remind them that it wasnt us "inferior beings" that obliterated a continent and caused a multi-dimensional catastrophe.

And if that dont shut 'em up then we introduce them to some good old fashioned human violence.

Atlantean: "I shall summon up a mighty tiger to end your pathetic existence"

Inferior being; "Wow, thats really cool, but you see this here, this is what we call a fully automatic assualt rifle. Watch this."

Stupid Atlanteans.

But the Atlanteans were responsible for that small little problem.

The world is ruled by the various factions of scientists and the Earth becomes a place for advanced research including medicine, genetics and tech with constant scientist factions battling and testing each other with there new technologies and methods (think giant games of chess).

The moon crashed into the Earth 100,000 years ago.

The Earth is a scorching desert with temperatures ranging from 100 degrees C to 300 degrees C. Everyone lives under the Earth's surface.
