Gonna have to, nepotism and bribery are one of the great foundation stones of any great society or organization......

New Hartigal Prototype Robot Vehicles Sighted on Test Range
----New Rockland, Muskatu System, Hanlis Sector, Anvil Galaxy. Exclusive images recently released show what may be prototypes of a new family of Hartigal Combine heavy merchandise being tested on their New Rockland testing range.
The images, acquired from an anonymous source(POV enters into an active-camouflage blind where a pair of Uteni in Naruni variable camou EBA suddenly look up from their instruments..."Hey...you're not Hartigal sec-"*KNUCKLESANDWICH*...before the POV pans up to the blind's camera ports and through telescopic lensing to an obstacle course in the distance) purport to show HC test crews putting a variety of prototype vehicles through their paces....
(Images of a variety of vehicles and robots scrambling over various surfaces and obstacles...much of the footage is grainy and fuzzy...but a few vehicles do stick out....especially several large spindle-legged robot vehicles in the black and purple of HC, but with extensive portions in the bright orange of test vehicles....also showing areas where testing instruments are mounted, or where systems are in quick-change configurations for trial testing and modifications....but a traveller to Rifts Earth North America could reasonably identify the 'bots as Coalition State Spider-Skull Walkers, Scout Spiders, and a Scorpion-Skull Walker).
Hartigal Combine officials have yet to respond to the videotape, but industry experts have predicted that any likely response to data releases not directly authorized by the company itself will be a resounding 'no comment'.

Hey, there's a Splugorth still in charge....bribing a patron of the company with free donuts and a seat on the Board of Directors is chumpchange compared to what normally passes for corruption in a Splugorth-run organization...

Splugorth 'god' Converts his 300th planet!

a small kittani in a trenchcoat holding a microphone can be seen on a shore. in the background several large pyramidal ships can be seen coming down from the sky and landing at the water's edge. a mass of squidlike beings can be seen in the water, waving their arms and making odd sounds.

"i am standing on the site of Pieus'cryth's latest triumph. the local planet, who's name i cannot say because the klicks don't sound right out of water and because my arms don't bend that way, but that i have been told translates as 'wet', has recently been targeted for religious conversion by Pieus'cryth, who has been making a name for himself through unique empire building. one of the rare 'good' splugorth, Pieus'cryth has been reaching for godhood. 'wet' marks his 300th planet on which he has established a religious presence. already worshipped by hundreds of billions across the megaverse, Pieus'cryth may yet be the next hottest Deity on the block."

"as you can see here, he begins small. his missionaries arrive at the planet and convert the populace to his faith. then he himself arrives with a massive retinue, and uplifts the planetary population in culture and technology over the span of a few centuries."

"several major pantheons have been approached by Network Omni News for their opinions. the response has been mixed. all of them have a dislike of Splugorth bordering on the pathological, but no Pantheon has atmitted to planning to Confront Pieus'cryth. To Quote Zues 'although we disagree with his race, we can find nothing wrong with Pieus'cryth himself. he treats his followers well and has not engaged in any monsterous activity.'"

Er...Darkmax...unless there's been a coup I wasn't informed of once I left the restroom, Cybysscrythh was the founder of NON, since the beginning....Unless this is some sort of bizarre alternate universe scenario or somebody got him with a Circle of Transformation....

Still, the little bugger shows promise...once we cure him of his delusions of revisionist history, we could find some work for him as President of an affiliate NON network in a dimension outside the Three Galaxies....

Of course, if somebody's planning on starting a rival network posing AS Cybysscrythh...well, they're going to find out how a sustained-fire-elemental-lit Steelwood Tree leaf cigar feels when it's unfolded multi-dimensionally in a sensitive biological internal spot where there shouldn't be external access...Cybysscrythh may be mellow compared to other dimension-conquering Splugorth, but he's got a temper few can match when racing to meet a deadline, dealing with plagarism in his ranks, or when dealing with anybody who thinks they can hurt HIS news-beings and get away with it....

IN the meantime Cybsscrythh sends a 'job well done' to our new reporter Glitterboy and approves his request for extra business expenses to cover the 'Octopus Bowl Parade' being thrown in Pieus'cryth's honor...make sure your holovid gear's water-proof and take lots of pictures!

Could be Cybysscrythh's rather reality-challenged nephew....one of the few relatives Cybysscrythh will admitt to, and then only duress....There's a reason why Cybysscrythh is the only splugorth known to have a Weapons Profficiency in 'Shotgun'....His handcrafted 'Editor' is to be feared...

All in all, though, I rather see Cybysscryth, attitude-wise, as a darker and meaner version of the character Lou Grant from the old Mary Tyler Morre Show...gruff, hardboiled, with a well-hidden soft spot for young talent, but not afraid (and much more able and liable) to heave a miscreant(or former employee) through a bolted-closed door(on an upper story)...

Well...looking at the directory of a new station for hints, we got Network Vice Presdient, Assistant News Director, Creative Services Director...I dunno about that one; I'd call it Technical Services Director...Sales Manager....As I noted previously, we have Regional Network Directors, each with their own organization under them..
Security is pretty much an integral part of ANY Splugorth clan operation(so there's no separate overall Director of Security, though there are 'security Systems Managers), though with NON, a lot of the 'grunts' serve double duty as cameramen, grips, and 'interview facilitators'(i.e., they hold the interviewee down while the reporter works a microphone/brainwave reader up their noses, or they keep the 'viewee's security/buddies off at a distance(that banging and blasting noise you hear occasionally in the background of NON-reports))...Even when NON engages in a classic pitched battle, the 'cnnon-fodder' troopers get to earn some extra pay(or death benefitts) because they carry cameras affixed to their gear...Surprisingly, there's little 'grandstanding' for better video; the grunts know the extra money does them no good if they're not alive to spend it....

Vodka? Sir, we draw life from the very distilled essence of the TRUTH, as collected by our reporters, stirred with multi-media, and served interstellar-void cold to the masses!

Okay, so maybe it IS vodka.

Undead War Livens up
----Anu-Braxis XXIII, Tentaph System, Gisi Sector, Independent Space, Thundercloud Galaxy. All-out war continues to rage between between factions of Undead on Anu-Braxis XXIII, as the resident Necropolitan populace fights a growing Zombie insurgency and Vampire minority for control of the planet and its living residents.
(View of a desert coastline as the camera POV, obviously airborne, tracks in from the sea over a coastal roadway and grassy dunes...then into a modern-looking suburb...except that there’s obvious damage...houses are smoking, on fire, vehicles are overturned in the road, people are running, or in fortified positions on roofs...there are mobs of people surging through some roads...the camera pans down briefly to focus on decayed features and ripped clothing...then cuts back as the POV surfs towards the center of a city with Egyptian-looking structures, including massive pyramid-like towers and buildings...as the camera dives into the center of the city, we see a large wall around what appears to be the ‘Old Quarter’ with mobs of zombies pushing at the wall, while figures, completely shrouded in robes, or swathed in bandages, or in what look like articulated full body casts, patrol the top of the wall, occasionally spearing a zombie trying to climb up, or lobbing grenades down into the throng...other groups are sortying out to bring in buses, or escort vehicles out of the walled-in city center)
Anu-Braxis is a world whose traditional culture holds ancestor worship as its primary religion, assisted by a strong tendancy towards post-death revival and induction into what has been termed the Necropolitan social class....Following what is to them a natural progression of lives spent in the service of their undead ancestors-among-them, paying homage to them, while slowly gathering the wealth and mental discipline(as well as gaining advice and asssistance, typically magical or philosophical) from their ancestors in attaining the next level of existance and joining the Necropolitan class. Anu-Braxis also played host to a number of other undead minorities, including vampires, in a more or less uneasy truce under the magically- and financially powerful Necropolitans, but recent discoveries of mineral wealth under Anu-Braxis’ sands, and the recent emergence of a growing new ethnicity of ‘fast-zombie’ have led to increasing social tension, and finally, a breakdown in social order, resulting in a civil war.
The established Necropolitan ‘ancien regime’ is currently fighting for its existance against a rising tide of Zombies whose as-yet-unidentified spokemen, speaking via audio-tape release and broadcast only, claim to represent a ‘populist’ movement in which ‘all will share in the benefits and wealth previously reserved only for the self-appointed elite of the Everlasting, who have perpetuated the myth of ‘worthiness’ in joining their class to keep the rightful owners of the labor and wealth of Anu-Braxis to themselves.”
Faced with rampant and contagious zombie militant activity, government forces have been facing the shambling hordes in seiges of several major cities on Anu-Braxis.
(Videotape of hordes of ragged undead pouring into a panicked village market, falling upon screaming villagers, while a few zombies in the background unsteadily hold up scrawled placards proclaiming ‘Fear Not the Revolution!’, “Join the NuDead Movement!”, “Feed the Revolution! Free Your Spirits!”.....A crowd of zombies walking into a waterway...some of them crawling out on the other side, when mortar rounds begin exploding among them.....A small pyramid-shaped temple, where refugees are taking shelter, the temple monks hastily blocking the gates while a mass of ragged undead advances...)

NON recently had the opportunity to interview Azus Dhuboia, a Necropolitan soldier who claims over two thousand years service with the Everlasting God-Kings
(Image of a tall, lanky humanoid wrapped in thick khaki-dun fabric and bandages, inscribed with various symbols and , sections fo jet-black, ebony-leather skin showing on arms and face. A grinning rictus full of orange teeth smiles out between bandage-swathes, along with a pair of glassy dark eyes. He is also wearing a back-and-breast plate, modern combat helmet, harness with various vials, grenades, pouches, and cartridge holders, and he is toting a double-barreled rifle of some sort, and a bandolier of clips and other military gear. The interview is currently taking place behind a column of an upper-floor veranda of some structure...over Dhuboia’s shoulders we can see, and hear, the occasional banging of weaponry, and an intermittant moaning and groaning off in the distance. When Dhuboia finally speaks it is with a rasping, but steady, voice, born from half-atrophied lungs...)

Dhuboia: “Yeah, we’ve been a real family values sort of world....Maybe other worlds are freaked out by having the dead in charge, but hey, here, we’ve got the experience, and none of that fear of death that prevades other worlds...Sure, some of the old stuffheads can be tyrannical, petty, and meanass, but what adult ain’t? You get dysfunctional families just about anywhere...but most of the time the others set the bad apples to rights, and social services get restored....Oh, we’ve had our share of warms, mostly young people who rise up in protest and want to oust the oldies, but they usually change their tune when they get older and start worrying about the state of their ka and whether or not they’re going to last to see their own afterlife, and they;ve spent so much time protesting the ancestors-among-us that they’ve neglected their own kids and family values...Yep, every hundred or so years that happens...no big deal, part of living, ...not that I miss it...
But the whole new deal with the new mines up north has the young’uns thinking fat wallets NOW rather than long term gains and investments....And we got all this talk on the streets about ‘redistribution of the new wealth’....totally screwed the kids around and up in knotted intestines, I tell you! Flash some creds and suddenly everybody under fifty wants hovercars in their garages and live flesh-stim holovids on demand in their living rooms!”

Dhuboia further summed up his own view on the zombie threat, a view shared to one degree or other by all the necropolitans we spoke with; “Zombies...jeez...No style at all, no class, and not a single one of them over a hundred years old....Every body, that is everybody that ‘s stupid, seems to think that becoming a zombie is a ‘proletarian’ way to gain immortality...anybody can go out and get bitten...provided they don’t get devoured before they rise up again...and that thus the ‘common undead’ will rise up and overwhelm us supposed elite through sheer weight of numbers...
Well, maybe there’s more zoms than us necropols, but we’re quality over quantity...We all lived good hard lives before we died, and we invested effort in our afterlives while we were still warm...I PAID my dues as a palace trooper, said my daily prayers to the Reaper and Judger of Souls, set aside enough to keep my family going and still have enough for grave goods, and my family was loyal enough to my memory to make sure I was done up right when I went cold....And they STILL kept up the devotionals afterwards...Think I’m going to let some shambling rat-rot eat my great grandkids because some punk didn’t think ahead of time, and became a mold-brain with an appetite? No way! “

“We pledged our loyalty to our ancestors when we were living, and we watch over our descendants in turn....The Vampires see the people as only cattle, the shamblers as meat...We APPRECIATE the living, the energy they give us, the devotion they pay us, and the wealth they produce for us...”

“Heh, the vamps thought it was a great idea to start using flamethrowers...some of those older style necropolitans went up like dry tinder....that old linen and the nitrate preservatives...But we’re more up to date and ready for that now....Fireproof balm and resins, and these new miracle-fiber wrappings...Heh....some of the oldsters thought plastic bandages were gauche until they saw how the stuff sheds weapons fire! Now they’re all howling for a makeover! I tell you, some of the new preservative tech stuff’s pretty miraculous.....It’s a good time to be dead!”

The Necropolitan authorities claim that the civil war has been further aggravated by necromancer mercenaries and agents-provocatuers...some of whom the Necropolitans claim have been brought in by vampire money...others by the chance to raid tombs and collect material from the battlefields....

(Hoists rifle)“Now, if you excuse me, I gotta teach some half-wit rot-brain punks a lesson in respecting their elders!”

NON attempted to contact the leadership of the Zombie Revolution and the local vampire community for their own angle on evemts, but was unable to get any meaningful comment. Attempts to interview the zombie populace in the street were equally fruitless...

(Videocut of a zombie in torn up slickersuit and robes staring at the microphone before lurging at the camera, mouth working and claw-hands reaching, before being booted back into the road as the POV speeds away...)

Zombie: “WWWhharrrrggghhhhhhh.....!”

LOL Very nice newstory!

How about a newstory about a naval ship of some notarity be decommisioned from active service. (I was inspired by the Decommisioning of the USN CV J.F. Kennedy this past week.)
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

Mystery Roboid Savages Ravagers, Saves Community
----Tohec XXII, Maberec System, Edowa Commonwealth, Semec Sector, Thundercloud Galaxy. Edowan authorities are still agog and puzzled at the appearance and possible identity of a mysterious ‘giant robot’ that appeared out of nowhere and saved one of the jewel-worlds of the Commonwealth from assault by the biomechanoid Ravagers.
Amateur footage obtained through a NON affiliate station in the Commonwealth shows the Ravager assualt in progress, soon after the ten-mile long Ravager ship appeared in the Maberec system, immediately set its anti-CG field in operation, preventing FTL ships from Jumping insystem, and set its biomechs loose on the planet.
(Jumpy video appears, taken from high ground overlooking a pastoral coastal community under a clear purple sky...where a giant misshapen orb is floating.....Coming out of the surf are three giant humanoids, like crosses between the Xenomorphs from the Human flatvid ‘Aliens’ and a bipedal leech...stomping ashore and laying waste to any and all structures they encounter, sometimes blasting or slashing at objects under their feet with gun-like devices or blades in their hands, or reaching down, scooping up something, and jamming it into their massive jaws.....The video zooms in to show bodies falling from the masticating jaws...giving some idea that these creatures are about a hundred feet tall.
At their feet is a crawling carpet of what look like spiders, moving in after fleeing figures, or overwhelming what few military and security vehicles have appeared...a full-scale massacre seems to be starting....
Just then there’s a flashing and the camera pans up to catch one of the trio of giant biomechs flying apart in pieces under the impact of a barrage of bright pulses coming in horizontally from...the camera pans back along the fire stream to...
....What looks like a giant metal humanoid, maybe a hundred-fifty feet tall...some sort of giant humanoid robot...something like the ABC Warrior’bot from another Human flatvid, ‘Judge Dredd’, ....of dark rusty metal. only clad in dark green camouflage fatigues, with web harnassing, pouches, holsters, and even a green beret anchored on top of its massive set-jaw head. It is advancing at a run from down the coast, leveling what looks like a giant M-16 with underbarrel grenade launcher....It is this massive weapon that is firing the pulses that are currently smacking into the biomechanoids....
As one of the trio falls in bits and pieces, the robot soldier shifts fire to the other two, who are trying to bring their own guns to bear....but before they can, the big ‘bot is on them, rifle-whipping one into the ground one-handed, while drawing a massive combat knife from a shoulder scabbard with the other. While it jumps with both feet on on the fallen biomech, it seemingly effortlessly decapitates the other in mid-jump with the giant blade.
As the giant ‘bot proceeds to kick and shoot the last biomech into roadkill, the swarm of anti-personnel mechs suddenl;y stops its inland rush, reversing flow to run at the giant robot, converging like fire ants on a staked animal....
Just as the swarm gets near the legs of the giant robot, a swarm of what look like old-fashioned rotary-winged gunships seems to pop u from the wide shoulders of the ‘bot. The helicopters dive on the spider-mechs, blasting away with cannon of some sort, and rockets, sweeping around and creating a veritable killzone around the legs of the giant grunt....
Having divided the giant biomech into many, many pieces, the roboid takes notice of the hovering canker of an alien mothership overhead...Casually stomping on the milling spider-mechs...now being eradicated quite thoroughly by the roboid’s aerial escort...the roboid lifts its giant rifle, takes aim, and fires off the grenade launcher...or whatever it is...There’s a cloud of smoke, a glimpse of something round and glowing black, and a growing contrail like an old-fashioned shuttle launch spearing into the atmosphere, growing ever smaller and more pointed.
The Ravager mother ship, apparently aware that this may not be a good thing, seems to glow from several proturbances and starts moving...but too slowly...the control disappears for a moment......
Then a massive flash that blotches out the camera into static momentarily...
When it comes back online, the Ravager ship is gone...just a cloud of expanding gas like the aftermath of a giant firework....There’s a brief glimpse of the giant robot flashing a ‘V’ sign before turning and running back the way it came, its helicopter escort following close behind....)

Authorities in the Maberec System are still at a loss for an explanation for what the giant warmachine was or where it came from. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Edowa Commonwealth Domestic Security Bureau and Network Omni News(not necessarily in that order).

Nice HLS! I like it!

Actually I got kinda inspired by the Protoculture Chamber+Nightbane discussion on the Robotech forums(and going over some old Rifters)

But I leave it to future newshounds whether this is a tech-bot, a magical being, or even a lone-wolf superhero(there could be a whole team of them out there), as well as the details of the Ravagers(who I see as sort of a rogue creation of a Dominator, gone independent monsters-on-the-loose)....

Well, if all the rabbis of NuZionStar put all their power together, and a forest's worth of chem, they might be able to create a golem that big and powerful, and I doubt they'd let it off their planet...Frankly, though, they're more likely to invest in lots of fast attack ships and save the mystical power for smaller golem defenders...
(Not to mention, this particular machine was packing what looked like a giant M-16, and not an Uzi or Galil assualt rifle gunpod) :D

CAF Retires Distinguished Old Warhorse After 200 Years
Motherhome, Romuli System, Alphad Sector, Wulfen Republic, CCW, Corkscrew Galaxy. Orbital lanes around the Wulfen homeworld were packed today to give a hero's welcome to the final voyage of the CAFSS Tyrants' Bane, one of the first Packmaster-class Strategic Carrier Ships, and the last survivor of her class, and just recently decommissioned.

(Videotape of a massive slab-sided starship bearing an unmistakable family resemblance to the Packmasters of the modern era, slowly moving into orbit about a blue-green terrestrial planet...a veritable horde of various vessels flying around her....a close and precise formation of CAF destroyers, fighters, and military support craft immediately around it, and a more loosely organized cloud of various shuttles, light transports, spaceyachts, EVA pods, and other commercial craft)

One of the first six CS-200-class supercarriers laid down and launched over 250 years ago, the Tyrants' Bane was originally commissioned as the WRSS Tyrants' Bane, as she pre-dated the entrance of the Wulfen Republic into the Consortium of Civilized Worlds. The ship first saw action against the Helmorid Confederacy a mere year after joining the Wulfen Fleet, gaining her first battle honors, and then went on to a distinguished tour of duty on the Republic's frontier. When war broke out between the Republic and the TransGalactic Empire, the WRSS Tyrants' Bane was in the thick of fighting from the beginning, supporting the retreat of Wulfen forces and civilians from colonies overrun by the TGE, taking serious damage on several occasions, but also responsible for inflicting severe damage on TGE forces. The Wulfen signing of the CCW concordance saw the Tyrants' Bane in orbit of Motherhome, being refitted for combat. She immediately became part of the CAF fleets sent to push TGE forces back, and even became the flagship of the taskforce that took back the strategic colony world of Lepison IV.
The following 200 years of service were no less distinguished. Though increasingly dated, the venerable CS-200 saw repeated front-line combat against various enemies of the CCW, and repeated calls to crisis situations, including the Malosis Civil War, the Cometary Strike Catastrophe of Encircada XXII, the Parkason Nebula Blockade, and the Hemotia Anti-Proton Works Explosion. The Tyrants' Bane also served on numerous occasions as a diplomatic envoy and saw the signing ceremonies of at least three new members of the CCW take place on her decks.
The CAFSS Tyrants' Bane was refitted at least 12 times over the years, and outlived two vessels meant to replace her over the centuries. Affectionately known as 'TeeBee' in the CAF, Tyrants' Bane was considered a prime assignment, especially as the ship was increasingly assigned to the Fleet's 'Grand Tour' squadrons, making regular visits to CCW and allied worlds.
However, all the refits and affection could not hold back the progression of time. Having outlived her sister-ships that had either all been destroyed or consigned to the scrapyard, CAFSS Tyrants' Bane was finally deemed to be obsolete, with the introduction of the modern CS-700 class, and the in-development CS-750 class, and the decision was finally made to retire her.
Under the command of her last assigned captain, Captain Vress Longtooth, CAFSS Tyrants' Bane made her final voyage back to Motherhome where she was built so many years ago. Among her crew on her final voyage were three previous retired captains of her, and two admirals who had used her as their flagship in the past. She was officially decommissioned at Motherhome's L5 dock-fortress, but made an insertion into Motherhome orbit for a public welcoming home ceremony.

(Videotape of a female Wulfen: CAPTAIN VRESS LONGTOOTH, CAF)

LONGTOOTH: "It's sad to see a distinguished old warrior like Tyrants' Bane leave the fleet...but it's also an honor to be present at such a leaving...Few old soldiers get to have such long and honorable careers and then leave the service to such fanfare....Still, for myself and a lot of CAF spacers who grew up in the service looking up to the service records of ships like Tyrants' Bane, it's a bit emotional to retire a legend."

Plans have already been announced to turn the Tyrants' Bane into an orbital museum in circa-MotherHome orbit within the next three years. Already, it is predicted that such a move will make the Tyrants' Bane a major tourist attraction in the CCW.

" this is Network Omni News bringing you an update on Pieus'cryth, the popular upcoming deity. it has been 100 cycles here on Wet, and in this short time we can already see Pieus'cryth's influence at work."
-footage of an underwater city of etheral beauty, seemingly wroght in pearl. in the center of town stands a large pyramid, it's topcap radiating a bright blue-green light up to the surface. -
"This whole city you see before you didn't exist prior to Pieus'cryth's arrival, and already it exceeds the size of the largest native Sqid city by nearly two thirds."
-footage, shot from inside a sub, of squidlike beings with a multitude of eyes swimming down the 'streets', along with a multitude of humanoids and other races in diving suits and bubble-subs.-
"connected by the portals inside the Pyramid, Wet has been incorporated into Pieus'cryth's growing network of planets, it's inhabitants meeting and interacting with a multitude of different races."
-scenes of a thriving sub-sea market, a spherical cavern covered in shops and stalls. foodstuffs and products from across the 3 galaxies can be seen for sale, along with local goods. the market has nearly as many other races as their are locals.-
"Prior to contact, Wet was a class Z society, with stone age level technology augmented by early magical and psionic abilities. this level of civilization was impossible without outside intervention, but now that it exists, conversion of the surrounding tribes has accellerated."
-scenes of a Kydian in enviromental armor amid a swarm of the local Sqids, some dressed in gossamer 'fabric', the others wearing organic armor made from some local shell over their 'heads'. the fabric garbed ones appear to be giving gifts of metal and ceramic tools to the armored ones, while others engage in a conversations of clicks and tentacle waving.-
" like the other planets under his guidance and protection, Pieus'cryth has instituted a policy of educational guidance. each year, a quota of locals are selected from the best and brightest, and are sent off to educational facilities across the 3 galaxies, where they learn skills and trades useful to their world and Pieus'cryth. these traines then serve a period of servic to Pieus'cryth, where they help spread his faith and elightenment to all those who follow him. then they are returned tohe planet of choice where they return to normal life."
-a vast train of gold, jewels, and other goods snakes it's way up to the pyramid.-
"all this is made possible by the offerings given to Pieus'cryth. each world is required to offer up a percentage of it's wealth each year as part of worship. Pieus'cryth then takes this wealth and uses it to fund his enlightenment programs."
-scenes of a shattered street, it's buildings crumpled and broken, dead Sqid floating in the ruins.-
"however this utopia has a darker side. a movement of Sqid called 'the right 4th tentacle of Pieus'cryth' has emerged. claiming that all beings should be forceably converted to worship Pieus'cryth, the movement has been struggling to forceably replace the local goverment in order to replace it with a radical expansionist theocracy. what Pieus'cryth's feelings about this movement are unknown, but Kydian bodyguards from the temple of Pieus'cryth have been involved in putting down this revolution."
-footage of a Kittani wearing enviromental armor under a trenchcoat, standing in front of the Temple Pyramid of Pieus'cryth-
"is Pieus'cryth as good as he claims to be? or is their a darker motive to his enlightenment? as always, Network Omni News is your source to find out."

who broke the story behind the vicious dictatorship on FenToe XI, was captured by the secret police, and managed to escape while the local gestapo chief was trying to figure out how to pronounce his name....

The hero journalists are those who come across an unpleasant truth or dark secret in a dangerous situation, but knowingly pursue the story, go to the scene, or go around the roadblock, knowing full well they could get killed, in order to document the truth...and by sheer determination, quick wits, hard work, and dumb luck, survive to tell it....

Those were both great stories! Great job!

What about a story involved in a border skirmish within one of the major powers?

Ares God of War Fishes With Anti-Matter
-Pocturn III, Galmois System, Rutayen Sector, Thundercloud Galaxy. While attention in the Rutayen Sector is focused on the incorporation of the planet 'Wet' into the Church of Pieus'cryth, the 'Enlightened Splugorth', the sector is also reportedly playing host to another divine presence; Ares of the Hellenic Pantheon, the loudly proclaimed 'God of War', and equally as often named 'Bloodthirsty Maniac', 'Murdering Lout', and 'Walking Warzone', has purportedly been sighted in the sector as well.
Witnesses who saw the divine-warrior-berserker on Pocturn III as acting 'uncharacteristically calm', 'laid back', and even joking with people who identified him. One observer who wished to remain anonymous described his demeanor as 'happy, as if he knew some great big joke or was looking forward tto some great relaxing activity and had already begun his vacation...". Aries was also described as wearing uncharacteristic fashion..."fishing vest, bermuda shorts, a sunhat...with his Greek sandals and grieves of course, and a sword belt, but with a short sword...".
When asked by a hesitant customs official what his business was in the system, he admitted to 'being in the sector to do some sport-fishing and he was stopping by to pick up some gear from his supplier...Gaston-Infernis."
Gaston-INfernis is Pocturn III's major military-industrial complex supplier of strategic aramaments, and NOT a sporting goods retailer. G-I has recently posted large profits from its recent introduction of a line of advanced naval ordnance, particularly a air/space/surface-delivered homing supercavitating torpedo armed with a small 'fleet-buster' anti-matter warhead. Industry observers have confirmed that the company has completed a production run of the new weapons, though a buyer and place of delivery has not been specified.
Conclusion: Aries fishes with anti-matter.

sounds like Pieus'cryth will be very busy soon. luckally he'd be watching lots of NON (he's a Splugorth, they love to see themselve on TV....), so he'd be able to get his fleet/followers ready. with 300 planets, who knows what he can pull out of his exceptionally tall hat. :)

now the question is what method Ares will be using to launch his 'fishing trip', and how many 'boats' he'll be bringing on the trip.

Nah...chemical weapons...Some of the stuff he swiped off Aphrodite...pheromone gas....not as lethal as Ares would like, but under the right circumstances, the stuff can ignite riots...and often riots lead to wars, which suits Ares just fine....

Nope....Aphrodite's been ...experimenting....

AphroScent Inc., a front-company for her perfumers, does a lot of business for ALL persuasions, though some of the scents they peddle are sold only through other smaller, front-companies(their men's cologne line for instance is sold through Smell of Victory, and includes such names as Riot, Ironworker, Bloodfrenzy and Napalm).

That's one of the Eight Hundred Legendary Relics of Thog....The Orb of Blasting....looks like a polished black granite bowling ball(minus the finger holes), but archeologits belive it conceals a micro-white hole...periodically, and no one knows the frequency that this happens, or what specifically triggers it...but the Orb suddenly opens up in dozens of holes through which high-energy plasma shoots, doing 1d6x100 MD to a 100 ft radius(thpugh sometimes it's less, other times it's reportedly been more)...The Orb is indestructible, and so far, the few who have been able to study it have no idea what it was meant as....a weapon, a power source, a demolitions device? For obvious reasons though, ownership of the Orb is considered to be an omen of bad luck/imminent misfortune....

Number 37 of the Eight Hundred Legendary Relics of Thog: Codex of Tomes; contains a complete listing of all novels, tomes, codices, appendices and the like that exist within the current dimension that it resides. The Codex of Tomes also gives a small description of all the non-magical texts within its listings. It is also said the the Codex of Tomes bares a curse of compulsion, which slowly drives its owner to collect a copy of all the books listed on its pages.

More then a few collectors have been rendered insane through the quest to complete their "set". Though this in and of itself is not proof of a curse.

As a Librarian and a Bibliophile, that curse has no effect of me...I already have a compulsion to collect books...Now if it would tell me WHERE the respective books and their copies lay...well, every librarian I know would KILL for possession of Number 37...

In that case, the artifact you really need to get your hands on is another of the Eight Hundred Legendary Relics of Thog.

Number 451 of the Eight Hundred Legendary Relics of Thog: A small and generally unimpressive looking novel that has been etched onto thin metal sheets. It is said that within its pages the knowledge of how to bring about the destruction of all written works.

On the inside back cover the following is inscribed: "With righteous flame at hand we shall purge our brethren of the false hope that is knowledge"

"You know, as a Knight of the Word, normally I'd feel rather bad about obliterating a book with a stray plasma blast, even though it was an accident....but for some reason, when that tin-paged booklet went up in flames...I felt this curious sense of ...well...RELIEF....like a great evil was somehow avoided...."

"Trouble rather the Tiger in his Lair,
Than the Sage among his Books,
For all the Empires and Kingdoms,
The Armies and Works that you hold Dear,
Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"
