I had used Project: Gilgamesh in the past, but then I saw it used for Bane in the Batman animated series...

I've also used Project: Titan.

The names of your SuperSoldier project can come from many sources; the names of mythological heroes, their battle-sites, or events.
I had an idea that one of the Soviet Union's supersoldier projects could be called "Project Tunguska", after the event there in 1909.

Project:Yankee for the States and Project:Rebel for the Confederacy. The government sponsored supers programs are S.T.A.R.S. and S.T.R.I.P.E.S. There is a Black Ops organization known as S.H.A.D.O.W. and a genetics and augmentation project known as Project:Blueblood as well. My Project:Titan and Project:False God and the Superiority Project are now defunct.

There are varous programs

Project Perfect solger

Project Archangel

Project Antiles

Project Omega

Project Alfa
Svartalf- if Cherico were a character created in a point game system, he'd have all his scores in geeky skills and his youtube and weird net stuff schticks all paid through a a Terminal Bad Luck (with more nasty GM intervention) disadvantage, and probably an Uncouth (can not have social skills) disad as well...
In an RPG with deadly situations that character would have had to be replaced a dozen times over[

Sadly, this particular supersoldier program folded when it became apparent that all it was producing were super-powered insurance agents.

I like taking the time to create them with defined meanings, just nobody does find out what the initials stand for, as you have said.

Of course, there might not be an actual name, maybe there's just a project code "Project XC-5043", or you could go with the old classic "the x million dollar man" that nobody knows about. You could always adjust the latter to fit your budget.

I found one from about 6 years ago. project Ishtar (after the goddess) the project created only PB 20+ female super soldier for seek and destroy missions, (basically every female baddy from a bond flick with super powers) I think in the end the player beat the group but I don't recall. the leader was called Innana I think and the top assassin was called Discord (I need to work on good villain names).

I've been kicking around a secret project to put together a team of supers, as a more public friendly front team.
Project: 'Excelsior!'
Can't decide if it'll be a government group, or a corporately funded team. I'll let you guess the company. :-P

The Brothel.

It's an unoficial-turned-semi-official code word for the Australian Supersoldier project. Officially it's the human enhancement project, or Just HEP-077, but its unnoficial code name cae about both becuse those who entered were said to have contracted HEP. Also because anyone who entered the project was officially screwed.

Nonetheless the project has met with limited, but reproducable success.
Samurai (limited telepaths, with a kind of group/hive mind) Diehards (enhanced skeletal implants) Scorpions ( Implant agents, soldeirs with enhanced headware and computer hacking training) Rovers (reanimated soldiers) Cords (gestating alien embryo grafted into a recipient's spine) Flashers (Soldiers exposed to TE enhanced Reptile RNA to produce rapidly regenerating soldiers that slowly devolve into reptilians)

The project has alos produced unique individuals
Sabre: able to project body hugging force fields that can be shaped into razor sharp blades and can bypass forcefields of others.
Ghillesuit: Ghillesuit bends light around his body and acts as mobile camoflage for up to 12 others in close proximity.
Jet: Jet, so nicknamed for his rocket like reflexes, feels no fatigue, nor pain. in either case he instead produces endorphins and secretes a steroid like byproduct. effectively he gets stronger and faster the more he pushes hiself. He has practical limits but these limits greatly exceed all forms of human expectation.
Bends: a human/alien hybrid, and clearly inhuman, Bends is amphibious and much stronger in watre than out of it. Unpopular Bends is a solo operatior concentrating on aquatic missions.

My US based supersoldier projects are typically stereotypical, and not nearly as unique. Typically, just your run of the mill, hush-hush, dont ask - don't tell, your clearance isn't high enough for that information, types that inevitably are evil or at least greedy or powerhungry, forcing the heroic PC to escape etcetera...

For my good guys I used ATLAS and for the bad guys I used LILTH. ATLAS comes from the geek titan that holds up the mountain that holds up the sky. Lots of metaphor in my games sorry. LILTH comes from the women that god was supposed to make before eve but since she refused to bow to adams authority she was cast out and then god made eve. So Every one who works for LILTH is an assain. Everyone who works for ATLAS is a super solider.

I had read "Angels and Demons" and liked the Illuminati idea (their goal was to 'enlighten and empower' humanity). But I hated the name 'Illuminati' for my super-soldier organization. I however did love the aspects of light and empowerment.

Thus my organization was called Spectrum.

Chello!

Not really original I know, but I just call the US one the "Supersoldier Project" and the German one "Projeckt Ubermenschen."

I called the Soviet Response either the "Krasny Frontovik" or "Krasny Gardiya": Red GI Joe/Tommy or Red Guard; it was always sort of vague. Note that a "Frontovik" is a hardened combat soldier and is slange similiar to GI Joe/(British) Tommy.

I never have fleshed out the British or Japanese versions, although I know that they had them (in my campaign world, that is. :D).

For genetic engineering type projects:

Project: Gnome (play on genome)

For chemical enhancement type projects:
Project: Whiskey (or Tequila, or Moonshine, or other strong alcohol the military boys might drink on leave)

Gladiators were not soldiers. For the Roman feel, go with Project Legionnaire/Legion or Centurion.

IIRC, there was a book called "Gladiator" about a superpowered hero, which predated Superman.
Though as a disclaimer, I should say that it's been a while since I heard of this so I may be misremembering some or all of it. Your mileage may vary, offer valid in 49 states (sorry Tennessee!)

Wow, Slade, way to rip off existing comics. :P Since I hope to get comics published using characters created in-game, I try to avoid copyright issues such as those your groups present. Though some NPCs have been based off comics, I try not to overload my campaign with them. And as some of my players have stated, they prefer original material to stuff rehashed from comic books. Not that I am saying what you are doing is wrong, just not my style of play.

No,you remember correctly. Not only did Gladiator predate Superman, but author Philip Wylie sued DC over it.

I like your entry Slade! It's awesome! Especially seeing "Colonel Steven Rogers". :ok:
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Project W.A.L.K.Ü.R.E (WehrmachtsArmee Laborgenerierter Kadersoldaten Übermenschliche ReaktionsErweiterungen): an old Nazi project before and during WWII to create the perfect soldier. Many of the scientiest and soldiers involved were brought to the U.S.A. to improve the process. A few were captured by the U.S.S.R. and a large number escaped to South America starting the process again in Argentina and Chile.

In your HU2 gaming world, does the UK and Germany play a big part in the super powered politico in Europe, and how prevalent are powers?

In my HU2 game world the Germans are active in the part of cybernatics and robot vehicles, still the supersoldier projects are developed - it is more a political problem to improve German soldiers and many left wing organisition and politician try to sabotage these projects. The UK on the other hand are mostly in psi and magic research. The superhumans are controlled and regulated by the EC (Europan Commission) which as astablished an office under the aegis of GASP and Europeasn Security and Defence Policy. The office is called EASH (European Agency for SuperHumans). The General Director answers directly to Mr. GASP and the High Commission of Foreign Affair).

Powers are very importanted. It is all about improving the human body (better sight, faster, healing factors ,...) and not so about APS. The side effect is to support public health.
