...Gen Con Indy next year. If you've never been to a Gen Con, it's something that you should experience anyway. I went a few years ago and was blown away. SOOO much fun.

What are some of the attractions which make it SOOO much fun? Anything outside the ordinary or do they just do it better?

Jason, this is a good idea.

GenCon is very open to groups adopting game rooms to run as their own Con within GenCon. You have to pack that room for all four days for all hours of the con, but you could have an All-Palladium RPG room that would be smaller and more personal than the mega-ballrooms used for the general RPG stuff.

Of course, this would require planning and leadership, aka lots of time to manage and arrange BUT it would be cool and draw lots of attention since it would be advertised by GenCon as a Special Event and have its own labeling on the event map. Control of a room also allows you to do more focused advertising and even decor.

However, I am still hoping for a March 2008 OH!!!

Thousands and thousands of gamers all in one place... the largest gathering of its kind in the world. And, not just RPG players, but war gamers, board gamers, etc. Huge, elaborate exhibits and booths with people vending their stuff. Little guys that you would never meet or even hear about, pimping their visions. New releases by most of the major players. Round-the-clock gaming for all kinds of systems. Meeting artists and writers and designers from all over.

So... BOTH! :D It lacks the intimacy of an Open House, but it's something that every die-hard gamer should do at least once, I think.

Comic-Con is a very good 1-day event UNLESS you are really into the backstage of the comic book and media world at which point it's good for 3 days. It's changed dramaticly from a cool comics convention into a media launch platform where comics are secondary. This has drawn much bigger crowds - far more than the show can handle - and now the big events are nearly impossible to get into as many of the seats are now taken by industry insiders.

There is near zero gaming at Comic-Con unlike GenCon which is 24/7 focused on dice tossing. However, a combined Comic-Con / Disneyland vacation would be worth the trip with friends.

Sold, through very convincing storytelling. Where will this be taking place?

Mind you, I'm not expecting to be able to travel again until... 2010 or thereabouts, so I should just butt out and let you lot decide :D

Not for gaming its not. Gen Con beats the pants off of San Diego for gaming, now if your talking comics and comic creators ... well then ... San Diego is THE place to be.

GenCon was awesome (went in '06). Never seen so many gamer nerds in my entire life... and it was entirely cool to be one! Anyway... it's not a bad idea.

There's a reason...and a very good one...that I have certain people in this forum blocked both here and on Facebook.

I can see an illustration of that nearly every time I come here.

Here I thought you were going to finish with 'Kevin's house'. I was envisioning the masses descending on his doorway with glee. :D
