Though said Aardvark was less than completely appreciated. :)

VF-TMS*-72 Griffins

*Tactical Mecha Squadron---They probably didn't rate a full 'VF' squadron rating, because half of the unit was an adhoc collection of Cyclones, Battlepods, and Destroids....

I always thought the top squad in Robotech was the "Skull" squad since it is a carry over from the USN. Roy Fokker, Rick Hunter and The Young Sterling lass were in it.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Taalismn where was your squad station. If it was on any type of fleet craft then it was a Marine air to ground unit or MAGTF.

My old player group called themselves VF-13 Rogue Squadron. It was a motley collection of an alpha, shadow beta, an old VF-1S, a couple of Cyclones, a Zentraedi Fighter Pod (piloted by a full-size Zentraedi), and a Hovertank. Their official symbol was the top half of a Cyclone with an upraised fist. In the unofficial symbol, the upraised fist had it's middle finger up. :D

You're right Novastar! My bad!

The squadron back in the late 80's when we playing were was the "Wild Cards".
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Having the return of Skull Squadron in R:tSC was a great link to the beginning...Plus we get some feel for the way Wolf Squadron fared(and its absorption into Skull)...

The RDF-Veritech Squadron of my first Robotech Character was called Calamity Squadron. Do not ask why . So it was not given a squadron number.

BTW, wasn't there also a Blue, Red, White, Brown, Green and the Familiar Squadrons in the old RDF?

Rick Hunter, Max Sterling, and Ben Dixon were Vermillion Squadron..thoughthat may have been an adhoc unit designation(given the unusual circumstances aboard the SDF-1) attached to some larger unit, as for instance, an unofficial 'wing' of Skull..under their command, but not entitled to bear the skull and crossbones of the Skull...

From Fanfiction sources:(apologies if disallowed)

(No Numbers)

"Angel Flight"---All-female SDF-1-based squadron

"Irregulars"---Mixed Veritech-Destroid unit made up of graduates from Angel Flight and orphans from other units; apportioned experimental and 'bargain basement' mecha from various refits and battlefield salvage...

My first character (and still favorite Robotech PC) was Erik Black, callsign: Reaper. He was part of a squadron that was called Hammer squadron. We called ourselves The Expendables (we always got the crap missions that no one was supposed to come back from, but we always did, though not always in one piece).

Eventually the character was promoted enough that he became leader of his own squadron, which he named after himself, Reaper Squadron. He was the Veritech Commander on an Ikazutchi carrier as well (having survived all his adventures with the SDF-1 and the Rain of Death).

From the series:

Warmaker Squadron (probably Lt. Lucas's squadron in Clone Chamber)
Firestorm Squadron (Outsiders, Pioneer Mission Squadron)
Brandywine Squadron (Outsiders, Pioneer Mission squadron)

Plus, about the only 2 call-signs I can remember at all in Robotech, Black Beauty and White Knight (both Dana's Story)

Back in the day with the group I played with (an all ground mecha unit) we had a group call the Atomic Mayhem Destroid Squad consisting of salvaged RDF Destroids, ASC Hovertanks, and E.B.S.I.S./Merchant Republic Battloids ALL Nuclear Fusion Powered with a, few conventional, Main Battle Tanks thrown in the mix. We operated as a A-Team-esque Merc group in the Southern Cross and Invid Invasion Eras.

For my current game we have 11 Veritech squads and two Marine groups under the command of the 3rd Training Corps:
Templar (PCs) [2 Vindicators], Raven (PCs), Shrike (3 Tirolian Triplets), Fury, Nova, Indigo, Verdant, Starling (Recon Squad), Harrier, Flare, and Teal. I have to go through and do an update since we've lost at least 6 of those guys since the beginning of this leg of the campaign. The two Marine groups are the 34th Marine Tactical Armored Corps (VHT-1A3s) and the 18th Marine Heavily Armored Corps (Destroids).

Our Garfish escort is named the Salient.

The Golden Bastards---A Destroid unit based in Tirol, so named because they were drawn up of Sentinel 'orphans' left behind on Tirol when the Farrago left, trained in Destroids, and merged with remains of two other Destroid squads, then placed as part of Emil Lang's security contingent...Unofficial unit flash was a demented-looking baby in an armored crib, with a golden spoon in his mouth, and packing two massive handguns...They associated with the 72nd Griffins in my Tirol campaign...

Originally the squadron was "Beige Squadron", all VTs. :?

After a few (30 or so) games we earned the right to have an official nickname we were called the "Holy Squadron" not because any of the PCs were religous but because the ground crews who fixed our planes figured someone had to be watching out for us, and the fact that we usually came back a few more holes than when we left.

Our call signs were changed to reflect our squadron name, ie. Pope, Cardinal, Bishop, etc. Though they depended on your rank in the squadron, not a personal call sign.

So the person who came back with the most holes in the early missions had to have been the most holey. Right?

SO True, Alejandro ;)

Names too cutesy or annoying invoke the ire of those wanting to smash them.

Though in an idea I was scraping together but never got launched, the featured group was Angel Squadron, so a little on the cute side.

I'm sure I said this but the people who played when I ran it back in the late 80s named their squadron the "Wild Cards." And they each had a poker hand call sign. I'll have to dig those out. I know I kept track of them in my folder.

Robotech Fanfic had a squadron called the WildCards...something of an insane special ops unit...
Also in the same fanfic: Joker Squadron...

When I first started running Robotech, my characters belonged to the Virgo Squadron (complete with long and inappropriate back story) and was under the command of (PC) then Sgt promoted to Captain and subsequently busted down to Sgt 1st Class Stacy Pierre! Man, we had so much fun with those PC's and that squadron saw easily 20 different PC's at one time or another.

Longest Robotech campaign ever!

Rasberry Babies? Yeah, that does sound familiar! I'll have to research it when I get home. :-?

Yeah, it was from the 'capture the Robotech Factory' plot in the back, it was one of the other teams in part 2 of it.

With a name like that they sort of deserved to be demolished. I wonder who thought of that name. It almost causes a pyhsical reaction, that horrible name that is. Ewwww!  :? :)

Better than theb'Vomit Comets'(actually the name of the zero-gee simulation aircraft, but I could see it applied to a training squadron) or 'Bullseyes', 'Flying Dutchmen', or the 'Dead Meat' squadron...
