Hi there!

Putting it more seriously, one can rewire the ship, automating
everything imaginable, resulting in a six-men Enterprise, from

Or one can hire a crew, thought one can end like in "Treasure

Anyway, a large starship should be the source of many-many
problems (read: HLS).

..It depends on what type of game you're playing; if the ship is just there for getting from point A to point B, then it probably shouldn't matter. If alot of your adventures are actually in Space as opposed to planet-side, then it should be an issue.

it's going to depend on the ship, and how effective you want to be.

most starships would be automated and computer augmented to the point you only need the bridge crew to run it, and not even all of them. but that leaves you unable to do damage control, repairs under fire, or anything requiring a person to go down to a spot and make adjustments. like finetuning the drives for best power output..

for minimum effective levels of efficency, you'd need at least 10% of the listed crew. for minimum long term efficency, you need at least 50% of the listed crew. this is because 10% of the crew is "skeleton crew" level, with barely enough to man the critical stations. 1/2 the crew gives you multiple shifts at that level.

of course, optimal is 90%+ of the listed crew. fully manned, lots of people for damage control, and so on.

multi-person crew shuttles and fighters are different. all you really need is a pilot, the navigator, gunners, and so on are there to handle things the pilot shouldn't, like gun turrets, cargo, ploting courses. the pilot could do this stuff, but at a reduction in efficency.
