Teleportation Question ..

Question the First ...

Can a Running mage who casts Teleport (lesser) transfer the running momentum from the start of the teleport to the end ?

Meaning if I am flat out running an cast Teleport does it mean I have the inertia after the teleport is finished i.e. still keep the forword momentum ?

Yes....No.... its how the mage intends.

Your GM might impose a skill roll on the casting of the spell at a dead run but otherwise...."Its Magic".
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.

Personally I think it would depend on where the mage is teleporting to. If they're staying in a relatively close area, then yes, they would maintain their momentum. If their traveling a long distance, or to a different dimension, then certain things (like altered gravity) should be taken into account. Casting teleportation while running is not something I've had to deal with, but it sounds to me like it has the potential to be dangerous.

I asked the original question because

if an MDC mage teleported straight up 5 miles ... 26,500 ft an fell to 3,960 ft (3/4th of a mile) then teleported directly in front of a person...

Would that terminal velocity of 150mph+ thusly be transfured threw the teleportation an make the mdc mage now effectivly a Battle Ram ?

OR

Would the Mage have virtually NO forword momentum what so ever ?

First off, I think it would make the mage a pancake. (MDC or no.) But I think I would rule that the momentum stayed with him.

That brings up another great question is it in the rules anywhere exactly how much damage can be sustained at 150mph hittin the ground .. an wether or not a mdc being would be able to live threw something of that nature ??

Mutants and Masterminds covers this aspect of Teleportation beautifully.

Personally, I would just have the mage be able to if they pumped more PPE into the spell.

I agree it is magic it should be the user choice. In fact I have always allow the mage to even change his posture. Example allow a person to teleport to into their bed and covers.

Humm, I was re-reading the original post and noticed some thing. He is asking about "T-port(lesser)" which only t-ports small objects.

T-port lesser: Person no, object maybe
T-port self: person yes well maybe, object no
T-port superior: maybe

Teleportation would work in one of two ways:

A: turn the caster into energy, move that energy a set distance, and then reassemble him

OR

B: the original caster is destroyed, and then entirely recreated via quantum entanglement some distance away

In either case, their momentum would start all over again in the new location, so no, you cannot skydive, then teleport on top of someone (50 EXP for the failed idea though)

A rift however, would preserve momentum and inertia... and so if a jet fighter going Mach 1 flew through the St. Louis Archway, it would emerge from the other side going the same speed.

Yep that is how technological teleporters would work, aka ST Transporters.

The way for the Magical T-port would be... the magic causes the caster not to be where he was and to be where he wanted to be, w/o any "movment" of anything. The caster is just not where he was, and is now where he is.

This is why a magical T-port can have its start and end points appering to go through a Force Field while everything else can not.[/quote]

It's worth noting that, technically, Nightcrawler does Rift. He travels instantaneously through a sulfurous dimension, thus leaving the scent of sulfur behind in his teleports.
