How the Minion War got started…

Unread post by Carl Gleba »

For those who have read Hades it’s pretty clear. Modeus is a crack pot with an obsession to destroy the deevils. But what pushed him over the edge? Was there some piece of information that Modeus had or perhaps there was some incident somewhere that was the spark that ignited a war on a Megaversal scale. Well for your reading pleasure here is a recap of one of my recent games where…..My players started the Minion War!!!

Here is a recap of the players and the Minions they decide to summon.

Conner – Rogue Demi-God Cyber-knight with Shifter Powers
Conner’s summoned Minions – A Gargoylite and a Sowki

Lockhart – Royal Frilled Dragon with Shifter OCC
Lockhart’s minion a Subjugator demon from Creatures of Chaos

Darius – Demi-God Special Forces with Shifter Powers
Darius’s minions – A Silverbell Faerie.

Lucia - Pleasure Bunnie shifter with Monkey Kung-fu
Lucia’s minion – A Deevil Horror! The plan is to cover him in heavy robes completely covered up and to not say a word.

Grack – Grackeltooth Temporal Warrior - NPC

Our story starts...

After doing a few jobs in a row the players are called to their master. It seems that one of his other dimensional raiding teams has gone missing in Hades. A Lord Karnack has contacted their master and is willing to negotiate the return of this team but wants to meet with the player’s master directly. Lord Aeries (the player’s master, yes they’re slaves to this guy) wants the players to go to Hades and find out where this Lord Karnack is and try to liberate the team while Lord Aeries stalls and buys time for the team. Knowing their going to Hades the team opts for some heavy back up. Conner already had the Gargoylite but everyone summons at least one minion. When Lockhart summons the Subjugator his three other companions come through as well and leave for various parts of Center. If you have Creatures of Chaos these Chaos demons work as a team. At this point (unknown to the players and after doing a quick read on the Subjugator I decided that they are minor demon lords and not likely to be easily controlled by a low level shifter.) Still the Subjugator decides to stay and play the part of a minion.

After coming up with a cover story for being on Hades the group elects to pretend to be the property of the Dragon and act like his slaves. They arrive in Shek’Ra and meet a contact who will act as a guide. Femur an Alu…thanks for the idea Gadrin :ok: Femur knows where Karnack’s domain is and when he gets his price he agrees to act as a guide.
The group makes contact with a Syvan trader who has a Splugorth flying barge and will take them as far as South Post provided that they do some heavy lifting and act as guards. No problem. After a few attacks on the flying barge the group is getting suspicious of the Subjugator who isn’t really doing much but watching.

The first stop on the way north is in the city of Gamora. It’s a major demon military base and fortified city. The Syvan sets up selling his wares and the players are doing the grunt work. On about day three they notice that the Deevil Horror and the Subjugator are um….missing! After a panicked search Femur comes up to the group with a large drum stick in hand (looks slightly human?) telling that group that they are about to witness a historical event. Modeus is about to address all of Hades and hasn’t done so in about some 2000 years. The Alu guide takes the players to a place where they can get a good view. Here is the impromptu speech I came up with for Modeus.

“Denizens of Hades hear me! For too long our enemies have stood idly by taunting us and challenging us!”
Modeus raises his giant sized hand holding some kind of squiring multi-eyed creature.
“This Dyval spy was caught trying to sneak into the war council building no doubt trying to steal our secrets,
learn of our defenses, our strength and possibly our weaknesses. We have learned from this worm that
Dyval is planning to attack Hades! We can not let this happen! If we are to crush our most hated enemies
we must strike first! By my decree and with the support of the other Demon Lords as of this moment Hades is at WAR!
Let this foul beast be the first of many deevils to feel our wrath!”

Lifting the squirming horror for all to see Modeus crushes the life out of it. Hundreds of thousands of demons are cheering and chanting…Modeus…Modeus. The players look on stunned and among the hundreds of thousands demons gathered they see the Subjugator leaving, but not before he looks back at them one last time and smiles. Needless to say the players get the hell out of dodge pretty quick less two summoned minions :D

So that’s how the Minion War started in my game and I couldn’t have done it without the players!

I figured some of you guys might appreciate this.

Well, at least it was caused by a cunning scheme and not something trivial like a Dyvel spilling blood-soup on a Demon at an all-you-can-devour soul-banquet...

Actually, it was a hot latte at a doughnut shop, but close enough.

Yeah, I'd launch a cross-dimensional, multi-millennial, genocidal war of extermination over a spilled latte too....

Imagine what might have happened it had involved a cellphone and a fender-bender with an SUV....

Pity the Dwarf didn't have a bazooka...the whole thing would have ended right there, either way...

I thought it was caused by a Dyvel questioning a Demon's parentage by stating the Demon knew his parents and they were married and the Demon wasn't a SOB. :D

Carl's group started it. And it was Gadrin's suggestion that should be the credit for it. :D And no Blackadder didn't start it!

I thought Shifter A hired a very clever Vagabond, a Giant, and a drunken Cyber-knight to capture Modeus' bride-to-be and assassinate her on the borders of Dyval, but then the plan was foiled by... oh, never mind.

Vrykolas2k I think you have it confused with Prince Humperdink and the borders of Gilder but apart from that you got it right :)

Their complete collection of all Robotech DVDs ever made plus his/her/its (I think that satisfies all Political Correct krap) Robotech books/RPGs collection including the newest Manga Size one.

I think that plastic coated anime collections is the way to go. The only bad part is if the demons are the ones doing the barfing. Then the plastic would get permanently stick to the collection. That is if it doesn't melt.
