Looking forward to seeing your site back up! I like the temporary sign! Very funny. Well I'm thinking about getting back to ship construction. I think my muse is returning!

Oh ok. That explains that! I was going to hope Yokko Kanno never gets tone deaf. I know I'm a little tone deaf, so people will never hear my sing. I'll do that in my car with the windows rolled up!

Somehow I think that is the way of the tone deaf. Close the windows and not deafen anyone else.

Thank goodness Dolza never tried it! It boggles the mind with thoughts of him singing the songs Minmei sang. And then put him in a short skirt and that becomes down right scary! :D

Irisuni Arms T-179 ‘Casto’ Patrol Ship

“The -Lissus Handri-...That’s a name that’s shown up on our boards all too often..Used to part of the Massani Collective Militia, before we engineered a regime change and kicked the old President-Exaltant out....Then this nut calling him- or herself ‘Captain Torgen’ after some local mythical hero, starts hitting our personnel, blaming us for the Massani job...That ship and its crew have made it their business to stick their noses into our business time and again, stealing security contracts from us or else making simple jobs into running wars...They’re maniacs who just can’t figure that Massani was a job for us....Annoyances they are, until they score a lucky shot here or there that costs us some real face and some lives...like that hit on the Syncharch’s cruiser over Passcat...and we root them out...But they keep popping back up...By our records, we’ve killed that old T-179 five times already... The lazarus-hull on that ship CAN’T be that good, so we figure ‘Captain Torgen’ or, more likely, his successor probably has an old squadron of surplus Castos looted from the old Massani Navy, painted and rigged to all look like the same ship when they come after us...So next tme we’re requiring solid evidence, like the ship’s log computer, for kill verification before we pay out any sort of bonus.”
---Marlo Schaeffer, Vice-Director of Operations, Bruben Strategic Solutions Inc.

Irisuni Arms was a briefly-lived weapons and starship company of some promise, that managed to crank out a half-dozen designs of note, incorporating innovative technologies that showed considerable promise. Irisuni may have gone on to greater things, and become a respectable force in the marketplace had it not fallen afoul, like so many other promising companies, of established Naruni Enterprises. Irisuni entered a contract-bid with the CCW for a large corvette-production order for the CAF, a deal that would have drawn Irisuni out of the backwater markets and prominently into the mainstream aerospace dealing. Irisuni actually had the better design of those being offered up, solely on technical merits, but the runner-up was Naruni Enterprises, and NE wasn’t about to lose. Having made some previous attempts to buy up/out IA without success, the Naruni decided to take this opportunity to utterly destroy Irisuni. The NE corporate espionage machine was in fine form when Irisuni was hit with a slew of seemingly unrelated product liability lawsuits that tied up IA’s limited legal manpower when it should have been at work lobbying the CAF. Though IA fought off the worst of these allegations, the negative publicity generated persisted. Then frustrated IA officers attempted to return the favor, and attacked Naruni; with nowhere near the experience in dirty tricks as NE, this turned out to be a disaster; NE cheerfully exposed IA’s efforts at industrial espionage and spun it to show themselves clearly as the victims, and Irisuni as the thugs trying to muscle their way to a contract. Still wondering what they had done to draw NE’s ire, the executives of Irisuni could only sit and watch as their contract bid collapsed and NE-sicced CCW courts dissected their company. Within five years, assisted along the way by a chain of legal reversals and (suspicious) facility disasters, Irisuni Arms went under, its assets and design-patents divvied up among Naruni Enterprises and dozen or so other firms.
The T-179 ‘Casto’ was the design Irisuni had entered into the CW contract bid. Though not adopted by the CAF after IA lost the bid, Irisuni had previously manufactured several hundred T-179s and sold them to various rim-states and smaller star-nations. Though most of these ships have been lost over the years to attrition, a fair number still exist in the hands of various planetary governments and freelancers.
The T-179 is a flattened wedge-shaped spaceframe with two large engine nacelles at the rear, and a smaller ‘hammerhead’ aerilon at the front. It had a good balance and distribution of frame and armor, that lent itself to an exceptional degree of maneuverability unusual in a patrol ship; some crews referred to piloting the T-179 as ‘riding a surfboard’.
Though modestly armored, the T-179 incorporated an IA-developed nanomaterial called ‘askaweave’, a megadamage polymer composite that could actually repair itself. The regenerative material promised to revolutionize ship support systems, even with its teething problems(a susceptibility to ion weapons, for example), had it been deployed CCW-wide as hoped, but Irisuni’s demise as a shipbuilder resulted in askaweave technology dropping again off the radar of the galactic markets(though it’s rumored that Naruni Enterprises has grabbed the specs and has developed it for their own). Beyond the properties of self-healing armor, though, the Casto is modestly armored for its class, and sports an industry-standard variable forcefield system.
Nanotechnoloy was also used in the T-179’s life support system...Rather than carry bulk supplies, the T-179’s nanofacs could draw from a common pool of general mass-material and produce foodstuffs, in addition to basic air and water, with much less mass loss than other systems. Irisuni reportedly enlisted the famed Grekka Culinary Academy to program its kitchenette nanofac systems to produce a wide range of replicable delicacies for upholding crew morale on long trips and little to do.
The twin engine nacelles supported IAFssR2420 drive units, licensed copies of secondary drive units carried on the CAF Scimitar Frigates; mounted on the smaller T-179 frame, they could drive the ship at quite respectable speeds. The T-179 could cruise at fair and efficient speeds for prolonged periods of time on long range patrol, but could quickly boot up to higher sprint accelerations within seconds of demand-command.
The downside of the T-179 was its rather mediocre armaments; in order to save weight for long-range patrols, the T-179 was fitted with energy weapons, to the exclusion of direct fire projectile and missile weaponry. This limits its effectiveness, especially against energy-shielded opponents. The most common complaint about the T-179 is its lack of missile systems, and several attempts over the years to outfit the Casto with launch bays have met with limited success. Owing in part to Irisuni’s lack of connections in the larger aerospace market, the company tended to ‘go it alone’ on developing many of the systems in its ships, and while its in-house-developed systems were not any less effective than other systemry, it makes it difficult to integrate them with non-Irisuni products. The Irisuni sensor and fire control suites are significantly different from Galactic standards to make cross-compatibility with common galactic missile systems an expensive and difficult proposition, without rebuilding and replacing much of the original equipment. It is assumed that had Irisuni actually won the CAF contract for the Casto, and had been requested to come up with a missile-armed variant, that they would have used the profits and fund advances from the deal to remedy the problem and make their systems more adaptible.

It is rumored that Irisuni has managed to survive, by moving some of its assets to the legendary ‘Arsenal’ dimension, along with other weapons manufacturers done in by their competition with Naruni Enterprises.

Type: IA-Crv-T-179 Casto
Class: Fast Long Range Patrol Corvette
Crew: 6
MDC/Armor by Location:
Main Body 2,500
Crew Compartment/Bridge 900
Engine Pods(2) 1,400 each
Laser Pods(2) 400 each
Point Defence Laser Turrets(2) 200 each
Variable Forcefields 350 per side ( 2100 total)
Height: 12 ft main hull, engine nacelles 19 ft in diameter
Width: 50 ft
Length: 60 ft
Weight: 400 tons
Cargo: 12 tons in a small cargo bay
Powerplant: Nuclear Fusion w/ 40 year energy life.
Speed:
(Atmosphere) Hover to Mach 4; transatmospheric.
(Sublight) Mach 10
(Kitsune Values: 50% of light speed; Accelerates/decelerates at 1.0% of light speed per melee)
(FTL) 4 light years per hour
(Underwater) Can function underwater; propelling itself at speeds up to 200 MPH, and can survive depths down to 1,000 ft
Bonus: +1 to dodge in space and atmosphere
Market Cost: 150 million credits
Systems of Note:
Standard Ship Systems, plus:

*Backup Photovoltiac Panels---The Castro has integral solar panes for emergency power, incorporated into its hull

*Nanofac Life Support--As long as the systems have power, and mass in the form of ice and rock(or recyclable waste), the nanofactory systems aboard the ship can keep producing food, water, and atmosphere...Sealed up, the life support system has an efficiency rating of 97% per six months(it only loses 3% of its usable material in six month’s time).

*Regenerative Hull---The hull uses a polymer-composite hull material impregnated with nanites that can actually ‘heal’ the hull automatically, using reservoirs of mass and particulates gathered in the course of space travel and atmospheric transit. The hull(and only the hull/main body) repairs itself at 2d4 MD per minute, and can actually effectively rebuild the hull five times over(15,000 MDC worth) before the system needs an overhaul. Without the overhaul, the system begins to deviate from its encoded parameters and begins ‘mutating’; 50% chance of the system only regenerating 1d4 MD per melee, 50% chance of doing 2d6 MD per minute, but in such a way as to blister and ruin the balance of the ship(-5% to piloting rolls, and -1 to Dodge, in atmosphere). The system is also vulnerable to ion blasts; ion attacks do DOUBLE damage to the ship, and prevent the system from operating for 1d6 minutes.
Weapons Systems:
1) Heavy Lasers(2)---Mounted in two large pods on the ends of the ‘hammerhead’ nose are these high-powered laser cannons. More powerful than those mounted on the Proconsul, the Casto’s heavy laser cannons give the small ship a powerful sting against larger ships.
Range: 5 miles in atmosphere, 16 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 16 miles in atmosphere, 16,000 miles in space)
Damage: 1d4x100 MD per single blast(2d4x100 MD for both weapons firing simultaneously)
Rate of Fire: Four times per melee
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

2) Point Defense Laser Turrets(2)---The Casto mounts two laser point defense turrets, one dorsal and one ventral.
Range: 1.5 miles in atmosphere, 3 miles in space
(Kitsune Values: 3 miles in atmosphere, 300 miles in space)
Damage: 1d6x10 MD per blast
Rate of Fire: EGCHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

3) (Optional)External Missile Racks(2)---Efforts to retrofit the T-179 with missiles have resulted in the possible inclusion of two small external weapons mounts, each of which can carry ONE of the following configurations:
a) Mini-Missiles--48 shot pod
b) Short Range Missiles---8 shot pod
c) Medium Range Missiles---5 shot pod
d) Long Range Missiles---3 missiles per pylon
e) Cruise Missiles---2 per pylon.

I've got to get back to designing starships. I'm planning on continuing the Golgan Republik. I've still have several of their Merc ship classes to do yet. I'm going to have dig out my other copies.

Note: both arms can be moved up to 100° in a firing arc. Can operate underwater up to 150m deep @ 100 knots. Can be flown in space as a short range defense unit.

Okay...gonna have to do something with this then,,,

Hmmm...maybe it also has a remote control or AI option so it can be deployed as a drone or a battle satellite?

That does sound great. Maybe you could have the AI be able to transfer itself to the satellites in it's system. That way unless you destroy them all it could survive.

Me cruel? No! Not a chance of that. Of course I can't wait to run Phase World next time. My players are going to be squirming in their seat for what I've got planned!

Ummmmm..........Yep! Except for the silver and black model. I just finished that the other night. I can't post it here. I found this armor on the net years ago. I've upgraded it just in the last week to Phase World standards.

Go ahead and check with El Magico about having some assistance. I don't have a problem with that. I remember you having other people naming your pics.

But this time I can't because of being impartial. I'm really being impartial. Check with El Magico. I'm sure he'll be fine with you having Taalismn helping.

Working my way back into stat-cruncher mode between some off-board contributions to Robotechnician I'm hoping to get out this summer, art for various groups, and of, course, the need to really get some exercise while the weather's not too hot and miserable...
