Like DhAkael said. Probably components for a star drive, power sources, containment units and so on. Also armor like you mentioned. Imagine making rail gun rounds using that dense a metal 
Giga damage anyone? Gantrium could also be one of those exotic metals. With its unique P.P.E. properties.

I can see those rounds reaching some truley terrifying damage levels. But giga damage? I don't think so. I rate them very close to the level of the SDF-1 from Robotech. (As long as the ship firing it would be big enough.)

This is going to test my memory as I don't have my books. My wife and I are in Boston for a few days seeing the sights.
I think Gantrium is in the first Seige on Tolkeen book. Its the metal that makes up those magic rings. There is also a special stone as well and I think its called Xanthine? I think it halves the P.P.E. cost of spells.

Any further ideas of what those Eka-metals could be used for. I was thinking about a new capitol ship weapon system. I know Kitsune has created Grazers for his game. But suppose the one of those metals helped to allow it's creation. Just a thought.

I wasn't planning on using like a projectile weapon. More of a focus for high energy capaciters. But the FTL enhancers makes a lot of sense.
