Hades in, um, Hades?

Pantheons of the Megaverse describes the Greaco-Roman God Hades as ruling the Interdimensional Prison of Tartarus, being able to call upon all the minions of Hades as described in the CB1, and having an ongoing feud with Succor-Behemoth. The best I can see, Hades the god isn't mentioned anywhere in the new Minion War book on the Dimension Hades. Is the Tartarus of Hades, the Greaco-Roman God the continent of Tartarus in the Dimension Hades, or is it seperate, and if so, why does he have Hades Demons as his minions?

I'm sure its the same thing here. Palladium wanted to try something different without being constrained by previous books. I also tink theydidn't know that Panthons was going to be reprinted so they decided not to worry about it.

I'd just make it a completely seprate Hades that borders the Greek Hades so they occsaionlly war

Hades the god does not reside in Hades the dimension. Hades the god rules over "the underground realms and the abodes of the dead" (CB2, p. 70), i.e. inside the Earth, but his realm seems to have contact with other "netherworld" dimensions (Carella's term for the various mythical hells and other demonic dimensions).

Hades the dimension was meant to specifically focus on the demons of Hades and the demon lords. I would consider the god Hades to have his own distinct realm seperate from the Hades dimension.

As for demons as minions, well there are so many wandering the Megaverse and they gravitate towards powerful beings with the promis of power.

Finally while I did base the Brek-Shalls off of Ashema Fury, the thought at the time was that the book (Pantheons of the Megaverse) was not going to be reprinted. So I didn't go into every connection mentioned in that book.

Thanks for the more or less official word Carl. I'm so glad they decided to keep Pantheons of the Megaverse in print, it's always been one of my favorites!

The gods in Pantheons of the Megaverse should rewritten a little & updated, along with the spirits of light & the dragons that got left out of conversion book one and Dark conversions. The Rifts Dragons & Gods book got put on the back burner a few years ago, but there a good deal of stuff that can go in it along with more on the netherworld and Tartarus.

Interesting answer Carl. Thank you for that one. I've always viewed it as several dimensions with the same name, just with different rulers. They might even have similiar denizens. Although the deinzens of each would have different alligences than what you might expect.

No offense intended, and we all recognize the contribution the law profession has made to civilization, and some of us hold such names as Clarence Darrow in high esteem for his role in the Scopes-Monkey Trial(and he was wise enough to get Leopold & Loeb a plea when they might otherwise have hung), and Richard Blumenthal(Connecticut's ever vigilant legal watchdog) and certainly such organizations as the Amnesty Project have done wonders reversing injustices in the legal system......And some of us remember the series 'Paper Chase' with its astute depiction of law school...
Unfortunately, the noble pursuit of law is overshadowed by what seems to be a horde of less-than-altruistic opportunists who remind one of the worldly(and suspiciously affluent) priest of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales...Much of this is the popular media's fault, but sadly, there are many who fall into the category of mediocrity or borderline hypocrisy...In many regards the profession of Law might be compared to the priesthood....GIven the same calling to uphold the ideals of law while serving to interpret it, one finds true zeal in some, accompanying great self-sacrifice, there are those who go with the letter of same, there are those go with the common consensus, there are the mavericks, there are those who fall from the faith consumed by self-doubt and self-loathing, there are those who go the route of least resistance, occasionally stepping over the line either way, there are those who have entered the profession because, like a noble's third son, they simply have no other line of work they can effectively go into...and yes, there are those who are truly fallen in the sense that they have come to serve themselves over all others...
Given that close correspondance of purpose and organization, I would not be surprised to see the two closely intertwined on the spiritual or otherworldly level...

So, you can expect to find Lawyers in places of honor like the Jade Emperor's Court of China, for Palladium example, carrying on the functions of the Light, but you can expect Fallen Lawyers in the Infernal Realms...
Sadly, it's the Fallen ones that are more likely to throw around their power..

I had a dimension simply called Bureaucron that was run by paper-pushers and lawyers, generally for the good of its citizens, and its wandering representatives were such semi-demonic beings as Tax Auditors and Attornies....Powerful beings that were excellent to have backing you up if you managed to bind them to your service, but fearsome enemies if you got them mad at you...

I don't really have any problems with Lawyers. I have both friends and relatives who are of that profession. Although you have to admit there are a lot of ambulance chasers out there that give the who professioon a bad name.

I'm fresh out of law school (USD) and I can tell you that 99% of law is pretty mundane. People hardly ever go to court. You spend half of the day online looking up stuff on west law (a legal database) looking up precedent. People wonder why lawyer's aren't out fighting the good fight and the dang truth is most of my graduating class are just trying to pay off thier loans. The ones that aren't worried about it are being worked 100 hours a week at the big firms. Then lawyers get demonized constantly by politicans when they want to explain why they need tort reform. That was exactly who they conned the American people into believing it was a good idea to immunize the pharemutical companies from products liability claim and imo turned back the clock 100 years. Generally when you see white collar professions being demonized on the news it is simply newcaster parroting talking points that have been filtered down to cast away blame from real insituional flaws with our system. Take the Bear Sterns debacle. I doubt a single person on this board heard through a regular new channel the changes in tresury laws that allowed it to happen. I sure didn't I just happen to work for an invesment banker. So instead you hear about predaorty bankers instead of the underlying systemic issues. I don't really have any problems with them. I think it's cool to find your niche. I know the feeling about needing to have fun RPGing a fun game.

Back on topic: I have always said that Hades actually owns/controls some actual real estate in Hades, though relatively little in terms of the big players. But he also has his own deific realm that is VERY similar to Hades (the dimension), and has numerous links to it. My ex-wife had a godling who was the daughter of Hades and Persophone (and who was the product of a failed attempt by Nyx, titaness of night, to take over Hades by being his legal heir - I love creative players!), so I had to have an answer to this. And its very possible to just walk from one to the other, no rifts, no nothing, just seemingly connected tunnels that are random in nature.

Her name was Nox, if anyone's counting.

I've always thought it should be the reverse. Maybe the Demon Lords lease part of the dimension from Hades, but he's the biggest power there - after all, it does have his name on it.

Isn't liekly this is just a small pie with in a much larger dyson sphere. When you talking about milion of demons that really isn't that much spread over a cosmos.

So what happens when you need to get some work on your infenal realm you're renting? Do you call and leave a message on Hades answering machine? I wonder what sort of service you'd get from him? Probably be a heck of landlord. He'd have to be served papers from those Lawyers who are stuck in that realm everytime you needed work.

I personally always ran him like a super-efficient banker with an excellent staff of burearocrats (my spelling is off there ). So going on that model, he could very easily control all of hell in a real estate or feudal sense, but have to keep juggling it with favors and offers to make the demons play nice enough not to try and take it by force. "I don't care if you pukes beat each other into oblivion, as long as the realm itself stays intact, and no one is beating on my door. Of course that falls apart when you consider Succor Bemoth is a direct rival of Hades.

Personally I think its just a planet with multiple "continents." One is the palladium world based Hades, the others are the other hells of the non-chinese. the chinese have their own thing that defies pretty much everything. But then again, these things never mattered in my games, since we spent as much time in Asgard as we did Hades and Olympus, and even more time in Center and various parts of the Three Galaxies. My own character (we round robined Dming) was a demigod son of Herakles, who also happened to be a warlock marine turned bounty hunter. Dragon Rod is yay for bounty hunters, and Hermes is a generous relative when you rob him blind, with his permission. "you can have anything...wait no not THAT....oh crap, go ahead."

Sounds like an interesting way of running him. I can see him being run like that. A banker or a lawyer. There is a lot of potential for that sort of situation. It sounds like you have a very interesting set of characters in your group.
