it was going to be United Worlds of Warlock, for the Phase World setting, but the original manuscript was never completed.

i am now taking a stab at it. Details of my concept can be heard in episode #5 of Echoes from the Rifts.

If that doesn't prompt you to buy it, I don't know what else I can say.

Please, please, please, do something with the Obsidian Spell Thieves!

Such a cool concept that needs allot of work.

Good luck.

I can tell you that the O.C.C. was change by Palladium from my original.

Still I'm curious. Care to enlighten us? :)

I've read your posts before about the curse being added by Kevin.

Before I go any further, what is your opinion on the Mind Bleeder Mental Block Removal power being able to remove the curse?

Here are my problems with the class and what I would change

1) The curse in general needs to either go away or be overhauled. I would give more detail on it including ways that it can be removed and consequences of it being removed. Also, more detail on how different types of magic such as Chaos Magic and Elemental magic would be effected by the curse. A sixth level Elemental spell is much more powerful than a 6th level invocation and Chaos Magic doesn't utilize spell levels at all.

2) Steal secrets of magic ability should improve as the character goes up in level.

3) (nit picking time) The Spell Thief should not have Literacy of his native language at 98%

4) Initial PPE is too low or the cost to use his powers are too high. As it is now, you average spell thief is will be wiped out by one use of Steal Magic used on a magic item. He won't be able to get out with the plans!

5) There needs to be clarification on how a spell thief is able to give the plans to his employer. Is it a special ability that allows him to teach the spells/formulas to his employer in a much shorter time or an oversight? Can he teach anyone a spell he knows in that amount of time?

6) Can he use total recall to recall spell scrolls or formulas from books? This needs to be spelled out.

7) They need the "Ultimate Update" ie a few more skills and bonuses.

From a GM perspective I would say it would not work. I see Mental Block as more of a misnomer. I think a better word is a geas, which to me would be more in line with the curse. As for removing it I am the type of GM to allow players to explore options to have it removed. I would say a very powerful being like a god or demon lord could remove it. Or something like ambrosia or a similar godly concoction could remove the curse.

Other options I might employ is to not even have the curse. However I would tell the player that their character is beholden to their teacher and must complete "X" tasks before they have paid their debt.

How about a Rifter submission? If its something that inspires you re-write the class and submit it. From the suggestions above you're on your way. :ok:

Just out of curiousity Carl. How drastic were the changes made? If you can say that is.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

No curse at all in my original. Now I can see how a character class like that could get very powerful. If I had to redo it I would limit the spell casting like a Techno-wizard. Stealing magic is their focus, not casting it. Adding the curse was Kevin's way of balancing the O.C.C. and perhaps making it a bit more interesting.

Oh ok! Thank you for your fast response Carl. The change does make sense.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Welll that problem should be over as soon as Braden gets his other projects finished. Then we can have that book too! :D
