How do you handle this in your game?
Say a psychic or mage is using astral projection, and their time is almost up. Do you allow them to simply put more ISP/PPE into the power to continue, or do you make them repeat the ritual to go into astral form?
How about something like TK force field. Can someone "renew" the FF if more ISP is put into it (reusing the power), how about for Armor of Ithan?
How about for spells that require saves? Like say you have someone in a Carpet of Adhesion or bio-manipulated...do you allow simply pumping more energy into it, thus keeping them held, or do you allow for a new save every time it's case?
If you feel they get a save, how do you handle it if they succeed the save? For example, mind melter wants to keep someone bio-manipulated, but the creature still have 1 minute of paralization left. They use BM, and the creature saves. Do they become free now, or are they still held down because the duration has yet to pass?

For astral projection, yes, I would just let the mage/psychic spend some more energy and keep going.
For TK force fields, magic energy fields, Armour of Ithans, etc., I let players recharge them basically - for the standard cost in PPE/ISP, the field is back at full strength - but only full strength, not a full new one + whatever was left on the last one.
Carpet of Adhesions & Bio-manipulate I would allow players to renew them as above, but their opponents get a new save - and if they save, the save takes effect immediately.

Re: Renew or Restart: Questions of the wierd!
the only thing I would let the PSI maintain would be astral projection.
spells on others, are limited to their stated duration unless you use the duration extender spell found in FoM & RBoM. Even then only under the limitationes stated in the spell.
Spell on self might be maintainable by the mage. The lower the level the more likely they are maintainable.

1) Yes, on their own action.
2) Yes, on their own action.
3) No, must be recast. I think bio-manipulation MAY be a specifically stated exception, but am not sure.
4) If reused, the first effect still applies.

Re: Renew or Restart: Questions of the wierd!
In my games, no
I see a spell as a complete package when cast. You put x amount of PPE in it at the beginning and for that one casting, Y is the result. I do allow More/less PPE to be spent, but at strange random things.
The spell as stated (in my house rules) is what is determined to be the most reliable 'formula' X PPE = Y Result. If you do X+10 PPE, you might just get Y result one time, or Z result, or A result. Each time will be different as I consider magic to be more an art and not a fine tuned science.
I also like watching players sweat on counting down time in their astral form so they don't get stuck in the astral plan Pumping more ISP/PPE would just kill all my fun.
