fly as the eagle on a golem?
what do you think? does fly as the eagle work on golems or creatures created with the earth warlock spell 'sculpt & animate clay animals'?

Re: fly as the eagle on a golem?
cool thanks for the verification. i thought it should work myself, but wasnt sure if a book somewhere (we play pfrpg so i dont have most of the rifts books...) said that this specifically doesnt work. my girlfriend plays an earth warlock and has some pretty cool ideas for spell combos...imagine getting dive bombed by 12 foot wide sculpted&animated/clay to iron/breath of life/fly as the eagle birds with sword-like bodies/razor edged wings. she also wants to try to petrify some kind of winged beast, turn it into an iron golem and use it as a mount, with flight enabled by a standard magic item (fly as the eagle 3 times a day or whatever), or eventually a permanence ward.
anyone else have any cool combos to share?

Re: fly as the eagle on a golem?
you seem to have put a lot of thought into golems. what do you think about non-humanoid shapes? in pfrpg is says they are max 20 feet tall and humanoid shaped. i love the idea of making a golem mount/horse replacement type creature, so im not opposed to allowing non-humanoid shapes...but what about size? 20 feet is pretty vague. what if i wanted to sculpt a 7 foot tall eagle, with a 25 foot wing span to animate as a golem? or petrify a 35 foot anaconda, turn stone to iron and make it a golem to protect my vile lair? im thinking volume might be a fair way to rule it. if it takes x amount of clay to sculpt a 20 foot humanoid, then x amount of clay is the size limit, not '20 foot tall humanoid'. that is still vague though, as you could sculpt a skinny 20 foot humanoid or a fat one that takes twice the clay....

I'd say that no part of the statue/golem could be over the 20' mark, that non-humanoid shapes would require a different spell (if only a version created by a non-human species, one that made their own shape), that a golem shouldn't be wider (or longer) than it is tall, and that anything with wings probably wouldn't count as humanoid.

i pretty much agree (even though with these rules i couldnt make a 35 foot long winged/flying iron anaconda golem mount ) but the character in reference is a warlock, so im not sure if they can learn a different version of their spells. perhaps at a certain level of mastery they can learn to alter the magics shape at will, due to their connection with the earth itself (as opposed to the formulaic method that most other spell casters use, which likely leaves little room for customization) or possibly through the help of an actual elemental being.

Golems and zombies and mummies and clay>stone>flesh animals don't have PPE of their own. They're not really alive... You may as well cast it on a Skelebot or transferred robot AI or a Machine Person.
Yes, you might as well.
I don't think standard spells would work like this, you would need to modify it to work on inanimate objects.
Golems are animated objects.
That's not all that hard. For example, I think there was a flight spell for inanimate objects in the 1st edition of PF, I'm not sure if it exists anywhere else. It's the type you would cast on a broomstick so you can fly on the broom. That kind of spell could work on a golem.
Sure, if there's no size restriction, and the mage wants to ride around on the golem.
Just looking in Pantheons, they built a golem body for Hrungir but he needed to inhabit it (sort of like that necromancer spell that lets you inhabit dead or inanimate bodies I guess).
I don't have time to look now.
Feel free to elaborate.

Re: fly as the eagle on a golem?
I've alwyays liked the idea of a golem in the shape of a scorpion, with an enchantmnet from PFRPG on it's stinger. Like poison or infectious wounds, of course any would work(double damage, super sharp, etc).

Hm.
Probably, yes.
(though I didn't look up the spells to verify for certain)

It is magic, so normal laws of physics regarding flight don't apply. With magic, you just have to assume it works on it unless stated otherwise.
