Combat For The Salvage Conscious

Unread post by Ale Golem »

What are peoples opinions on the best weapons to use for an Operator with an eye for salvage. Is there any mechanical differance between sniping a suit of PA with a high powered laser or rail gun and blasting it with a heavy plasma ejector or grenade launcher in terms od what's left over at the end?

depends on how detailed your GM\wants to get. lasers blow craters and cracks in stuff, plasma melts stuff, ion guns make stuff brittle, railguns and solid slugs tend to create large dents and ragged holes...

Get a weapon that does its damage in a single hit, target specific locations, head shots on one guy, arm and leg shots on another...

Wait intill the pilot gets out of his/her PA & shot the pilot. Pilot still needs to eat, sleep, go to the bath room & you can not stay fresh in a tin can like a PA. No damage to the PA. I play it dirty.
I don t beleive I m using my XBOX One to post on here.
Undisiplined Veritech Pilots don t pilot Veritechs they pilot Verideck.

In game terms, there's no difference.

But it might be a fun bit of flavor to add in.

Follow them to their campsite, kill 'em in their sleep, then steal all their stuff... :bandit:

Use weapons that bypass armor or disable it without destroying it. There is the lightning blaster on one of the planes in the NGR. Austrailia has a lightning weapon that does damage to people if their not in heavy armor. Phase world has phase guns & ammo. Mages & psychics have ways of doing this - you could get a magic or psi tech weapon that has their powers.

As mentioned stay away from weapons that deal damages to areas, like grenades or plasma missiles.

Under RUE rules, I believe an Operator has access to Telemechanic Paralysis, which would make it easier to win battles without massive equipment damage.

Go for it...just try not to get scrapped off while you're trying to shut down a HellRaiser...

You know its basically up to the person with whom the buck stops - ie, the GM, as to whether there is a difference and what it is.

Rifts is very much a traditional design that punts this decision to the GM and that's it.

True enough. My suggestion would be a small, fast moving PA suit, like the Terrain Hopper, which might let you get in close enough without damage to shut it down.

I'll have to check again but I do believe my R.C.C. (Two-Horned Techno-Man) gets Telemechanic Paralysis automatically.

Get hold of some Phase weapons.

Intact armour, just a bit of internal cleaning to do! :)

In the old Mechwarrior games, I targeted to cripple. Blow off a robot's leg, and it can't fight too well... but it's valuable salvage for all the stuff you didn't blow off.
