As I understand, the manuscript has been turned in and is slated for a 2010 release. The author, Galactus Kid, would have more accurate info, but IIRC that was his last update.

It has been placed in an unmarked crate in a warehouse that technically does not exist along with the ark of the covenant.

It is my contention at this time that if Palladium wants to survive, they need to start freelancing out some of those projects, or putting them into print. I think they might be afraid to release Lazlo because of other concerns, but if I were them, I would do it anyway.

Settings don't survive without an iconic city. Forgotten Realms=Waterdeep. Greyhawk=Greyhawk, Eberron=Eberron, Champions=Millennium City. Like it or not, even coalition fanboys have to admit from a marketing perspective that Lazlo is that city. I'm shocked that this book has taken as long to come out as it has. Even if it was 500 pages and had to be divided into two books, I would still pay for it, because of how important to the setting it is.

The problem with the book might be maps. If you release a supplement like this, the maps need to be gorgeous.

The fact that no major city has been mapped out is one of the main reasons I keep Tolkeen around in my game.

If Palladium Books were to come out with a Chi-Town world book I would sudjest it was done in 3 books.

Chi-Town book 1: Chi-Town security, commerce, the Low-Levels the outsiders are able to get passes too. Notetable people and places of the fortress city and day-to-day acticity of it.

Chi-Town book 2: The upper levels of the city, where only the elite live. The techknology hidden away from the rest of the world and the peolpe who benefit from it.

Chi-Town book 3: The sub-levels of the fortress city where the emperor and the elite of the military reside and the secreats they keep for themselves.

All the books should have there areas mapped out and explained. I know the city is huge, and mapping out every detain would be to much, but a general idea of just how the city is constructed and how in manages to function would be fine.

I would never buy 3 books about Chi Town

What about 1 book per Coalition state?

Koz wrote:I'm not sure why it would take Palladium so long to publish a book that is sure to be a big money maker for them. I mean, wouldn't a book like Triax 2 sell like two or three times as much as books like Shemarian Nation and Fleets of the Three Galaxies? Wouldn't books about places like Lazlo or Ironheart or something be big sellers as well? If Palladium is in such bad financial shape, which we hear it is, why don't they make the books that they know will be big sellers? I would think that would be the smartest move they could make from a business perspective (i.e. make products with the highest level of consumer demand).

Just seems strange to me.

Koz

Actually, iirc from the show (Shame on the lot of you for not actually listening to it btw, as most questions are answered on it) Kevin know's it's going to see and knows it's going to sell big. However, they're putting it off to Feb/March because those are some of the worse sales months, so they need a big book, like Triax 2, to pump sales for that month. They know what you're saying, but they're also factoring in the predicitable sales flow of the year and are trying to balance everything out.

Again, you people should really be listening to the show. Chi-town itself is never going to be stated out specifically, and the information you have now is likely all you will ever get unless someone comes out with an amazing book. The fact is he likes to leave Chi-Town fluid for gms to work with. That being said, you are likely going to see CS books in the future that stat out the other fortress cities so that you have information to use to base Chi-Town off of.

Hm. He's said he'd love for Chi-Town to be written, though I guess that doesn't preclude it not being written out with specific stats.

There's a reason...and a very good one...that I have certain people in this forum blocked both here and on Facebook.

I can see an illustration of that nearly every time I come here.

I hope you are wrong about this because it makes absolutely no sense on any level to not release a book(s) about the Coalition states. Espcially now with the economic hardship the company is going through. Sure it is great that he release non stand Rifts stuff. Poor business sense to ignore sure moneymakers such as Lazlo, Ironheart and other similiar books. When the company is doing good then release Rifts Timbuktu not before imo.

I remember that too. Not sure if it was in one of the murmurs or an issue of a Rifter.

Palladium can't be given a free pass for criticism because people have a lot of emotion invested in it.

I heard it was written by Brandon Aten and Taylor White, and since your name has Brandon in it I assume you wrote most of it.

Um, where exactly do I saw he's never going to put out a book about the Coalition States? I believe my post states the EXACT OPPOSITE. I said he wasn't going to put out one about Chi-Town itself. Chi-Town =/= the Coalition States. Heck, they have a manuscript for Iron Heart that Kevin wants to get to next year and I know someone is in the process of writing Missouri, though who escapes me at the moment.

there is a differance between "releasing a book detailing out Chi-town" and "releasing a book with more infor on the Coalition."

Chi-town is only one of dozens of Coalition cities. one of a dozen fortress cities. while Kevin has decided to leave Chi-town as an undefined location for the sake of GM's, it does not mean there will not be more info on the CS released. it just means that we will be learning about parts of the CS other than chi-town.

and that also doesn't mean we won't get a book describing the layout and life of a fortress city. it just means we'll learn about one of the other fortress cities. possibly even one of the five other fortress cities near Chi-town itself.

I understand that. It just frustrating after all this time to have no world books on the major players of north america. Considering that most if not almost all campaigns probably start there. Instead they decided to stat out the rest of the world first. Never made sense to me in 1990 and makes even less sense now. And they could do a Chi-town book full mapped and statted out if they wanted too No really good reason not to either. GMS are free to use it and ignore it as they please. To me it's a copout leaving it undefined. We have a book detailing Madhaven a place that drives characters crazy and to myself is of limited use yet they can't do the same for Chi-town because they want to leave it "undefined" and a book that I can almost guarantee wilol sell more and be of much more use then Madhaven ever will be. Why is he so afraid to do it? I say that because as I said I am frustrated with lack of coverage of north america and because so far none of the reasons given make any sense imo logically and on a financial basis. They are writing up some levels of phaseworld in the dimensonal outbreak book why do it for that and not for Chi-town. Phaseworld was undefined for so long why now?

I should have been more specific. More titles detailing Lazlo, Chi-Town, Ironheart and other major power players. While we have small areas of america. They are lesser known areas. Nothing really major has been written about any major areas imo. Nothing the likes of Triax or Japan has been really done on North america imo. And quite frankly I am in no mood to lug around 20 books to get the "big picture" so to speak. We hanve more details about areas out side of North america the we do about north America imo.

I could but if all I am going to get from the show is that it's not going to happen or if it does not in the way I would like why woud I waste my time. Kind of counterporductive don't you think.

why dont you enlightend us since you know
I remember days like this when my father took me to the forest and we ate wild blueberries. More than 20 years ago. I was just a boy of four or five. The leaves were so dark and green then. The grass smelled sweet with the spring wind...For us, there is no spring. Just the wind that smells fresh before the storm.

Prince Artemis wrote:Hmm, maybe if you listened to the show where he went on for over 20 minutes about it you would get your answer.

I could but if all I am going to get from the show is that it's not going to happen or if it does not in the way I would like why woud I waste my time. Kind of counterporductive don't you think.

Your previous post was questioning his motives to the point of saying that he's actually scared of the books, yet I give you the actual source that details his motives and you shoot it down. Very nice. I have the feeling that should the books your demanding every get made you'd be ranting that they were horrible and they never should have written any books about them :P

I read about the motives i still do not understand them. They make no sense and no I would not be ranting about them or say they were horrible if they were published . Even if they were it's one of those book(s) that we need for Rifts. As for demanding the books I ask to see them I never said Kevin better do them or else. That would be so counter-productive and pointless. If we stay silent nothing will every get done aboutit. Better to let Kevin know about it and maybe we wilo see them in the future.

So, let me get this straight, you honestly expect me to spend two hours of my day hosting a show for the fans, and instead of listening to it for the information directly from Kevin, you want to me to put out bloody manuscripts of what he said? Sure, as soon as you start wiring me the money for a steady pay check I'll get right on that.

I undertand and respect that. Yet neither imo should you be referecing stuff from your show if your not going to post it for the rest of us to read. Your kind of forcing us to listen to the show rather than wanting to listen to it. I have enjoyed the show when I lsiten to it. I'm not going to force myself to do so not unless as you said I'm paid it do to so.

You know, those links in my sig aren't just for show :P

Gateway to the Megaverse, and episode 67 if one of the main ones that answers fans questions, including sureshot's, not that he listened to find out the answers.

Just click the link in my sig, scroll down to 67 and press the listen key.

Yes, it is, because I'm working on the adventurer book because more people wanted me to at the open house.

Where is Eberron in Eberron? Having played in a few campaigns that occur in that setting, I'm having a hard time finding your reference. Did you perhaps mean Sharn? You got Waterdeep there...didn't see Forgetten Raelms = Faerun...sorry, just being an ass because you had a fail in your own comment about "iconic cities" and couldn't even name them...how ironically not iconic...

Anyway...I don't think Kevin is as into detailing cities because he wants you, the player to do it. Palladium Fantasy has numerous cities detailed, but most of those are not by Kevin's hand. Rifts has a few that are quite detailed. Tolkeen is there...and if you never plan on going there in your campaign, use the map and the locations and call it something else. Chi-Town may have not yet been mapped...but the 'Burbs sure have.

Ciudad Juarez is quite possibly the most detailed Rifts city out there and many a game I have run has started there...and one or two never left...

Rifts has always struck me as Kevin painting the forest, now you paint the trees.

I hear where you are coming from, though it would be nice to not have to do all the work of city creation.I like it when people who are getting paid do some of the work for us players and GM's.

Said it before, said it again, freelancers generally write their own ideas and tackle the projects they want to tackle. If the city hasn't be described it's either one of the following:

The manuscript is finished, but hasn't been read through (Less likely now than in the old days since they do the regular reading of the available manuscripts).
No one has written it (Pretty likely)
No one has written one worth publishing (More likely)
The manuscript is being written or re-written (About as likely as know one writting it really)

So, saying that a freelancer should write it is all well and good. But keep this in mind to. All of the freelancers for PB pretty much started here, with an idea and a will to write it. They all have real jobs, most have full family, spouses, kids, ect. So, if you have an idea, if you have the will and a bit of talent, feel free to take a shot at it. Kill to birds with one stone. You get the books made as you wished, and you become a freelancer writer that got paid to write it :P
