Creator of the Chi grenade. Used in game by Kevarin [GM] and self as Mai - Civilian Martial artist that got amped via experiment. Ghost weapons and shirts rule.

Nano Missiles - used once and GM banned further use. They weren't THAT bad. and did stop a demon scout ship from returning with valuable info.

MMmm...alien invaders hit little backwater world without space travel? Then learn that their own homeworld has been hit, repeatedly, by massive impacts nobody saw incoming?
Make the interstellar travel capability along the lines of a magic ritual/telepoart ability...and it doesn't necessarily have to be 'here to THERE' but also 'THERE to THERE'...so Earthside industry needs nickel iron? Sure, pick a small asteroid out space that you found with a telescope and bring it down in the Great Lakes...AFTER you've bled off the relative velocity...Want to whack something hard? Don't bleed off the relative velocity....OUCH....
So far, though, they haven't been able to open up a doorway directly to a star's surface, or if they have, it's classified information...

The English Civil War went against the Parliamentarians and resulted in an escape of a major proportion of their leadership and followers to the American colonies, resulting in a divided North America, as the Royalists and Paraliamentarians continue to duke it out in parallel colonies....Oliver Cromwell comes to North America with a new cadre of Roundhead troops and an agenda, and the American frontier runs hot with English fighting...

50 years ago, astronomers discovered MASSIVE changes in the atmospheres of Venus and Mars....
Then, overnight, Humanity found itself abruptly uprooted and dumped...elsewhere...
Our houses, and whatever of our infrastructure could be quickly and rudely scrapped up and simply dumped on another world....
The loss of life was immense, due to panic, confusion, a breakdown of the logistics of modern civilization....by the time order was re-established, we were able to figure out where we were...
Humanity had been evicted, and forcibly relocated to a terraformed Mars and Venus...except both worlds were barely habitable...Venus had scorching summers, marginally polluted air, and limited water...Mars was cold and had thin air...a lot of people died of respiratory problems in those early days...Neither world had wood or coal or oil, or any of the traditional resources we were used to...Somebody had thoughtfully provided a few alien plants...like the lettuce and straw you put in a hamster's cage...but our societies were going to have to do without a lot of things until we could grow forests and find substitutes...
Once we'd gotten radio going again, we could compare notes with the other planet, and share our misery...and realize that NOBODY was talking from Earth...
Both worlds could see it up there, and once we got what telescopes had been thrown down along with the rest of us, and had survived the tech-smashing of the 'crazies', we could see Earth sitting in the heavens...still blue and white and beautiful...
And out of our reach...
For now....
Some of the folks in charge figure somebody else coveted our piece of real estate and decided to take it from us...only they couldn't do so without somehow compensating us for it...But like a new landlord adhering to the letter of the law but not the spirit, they cut corners...Humanity got evicted, and dumped in the equivalent of low-income housing...And there wasn't any warning, nor anything we can do about it....
The scientists say rockets are still decades, if not centuries, off..we have to totally redevelop our technology...and there's no garaunteeing that we can reach Earth, or even take it back against whoever, or WHATever, did this...but that's all that's been on our collective consciousness for the last half-century...Getting our home back...

Due to Rift activity Mars became habitable with a gravity of .95 g's over the next 200 plus years plant and animal life of all sorts springs up on it.

The Celts conquered all of Eurasia and never left.

The space age came early for us(1600's) as the Catholic church never arose to prominence.

The Battle of Somme Agea in France went in favor of the English and the war ended by december 1916. Resulting in no WW 2.

FDR never died in office during his third term, finished his term and Patton was elected.

1938---Knowing the Germans are going to invade them eventually, Belgium decides to pre-emptively invade Germany...
So surprised are the Germans(so much so that Hitler chokes on his dinner when he hears the news and croaks at his schlauss table, and Goebbels has a Cheney-isc hunting accident with Goering..) that the Belgians actually WIN.

The entire staff of Palladium Books gets whisked by government agents into custody...after a humiliatingly thorough physical exam and quarantine at the biological laboratories on Fisher's Island to make sure they aren't aliens or have been in contact with aliens, they're trucked off to a remote think tank/gulag and squeezed for everything they know....In a strangely ironic mirror of Palladium policy, everything they say gets classified by the government and locked away as 'national security property'....To save his sanity, Kevin draws out giving away information..."I'll have something for you next week...maybe....it's not definite....I have to reread my notes..." in exchange for privileges and access to the internet...

On two occasions, Nazi Germany could have had the jet fighter operational as a weapons system EARLY....when the HE178 debuted in 1939(the Luftwaffe didn't want to develop any programs that wouldn't yield a working weapons system before 1942, when they expected the war would be over already), and later, when Heinkel offered the simpler and more robuts, if more conventional, He280 turbojet fighter in 1940 (the Luftwaffe decided to run with the more sophisticated Me262, in part due to their distrust of the He280's twin tail))...What if the Luftwaffe HAD decided to develop these jets into full blown weapons systems?

Or...what if...Heinkel engineers with anti-Nazi sentiments had managed to smuggle out their plans(or even examples of the aircraft) to the Western Allies in 1939-1940, convinced the Allied Air Command to take them seriously, combining their expertise with the British Whittle and getting the cooperation of American industry?

WITH the French, Dutch, and British colonial forces still there?!
Whow...The Russians would make a MAJOR effort to make nice to the Chinese and become the power behind the Chinese economy before somebody figured on doing the opposite(and started by whacking Mao)...Meanwhile, the American economy would tank, considering all the investment made in Chinese industry...and the Chinese loans made to the USA....
And this time around, Ghandi gets a SERIOUS bodyguard....

how about:
around the eleventh century, the with the norse kings converting to christianity and forcing their people to do the same, a settler from greenland visits scandinavia, resulting in knowledge of Vinland making its way into the norse population proper. seeing this new world as a place of refuge for the old ways, a great many traditionalists "go a viking", making their way across the north atlantic via iceland and greenland to Vinland. as the vinland settlement is far too small to support them all, they begin moving south along the coast, raiding "skraeling" (indian) communities, founding new settlements, and enslaving the locals. the pressures of living in the new world, combined with the lure of their own landholds, encourage raiding parties ot continue expanding. this influx of europeans expose the native populations to sicknesses, causing a massive depopulation. but the situation stabilizes and by the 12th century most of the eastern tribes have begun to grow again. the enslaved locals help the norse construct sizeable kingdoms, which war with each other, the locals, and continue ot send out expiditions of raiding and conquest, particularly to the south through the [gulf of mexico], [carribean], and into [south america]
the scene now is 1492. Christopher columbus, seeking a westward route to asia (and disbeleiving the tall tales of viking kingdoms in an unknown land), stumbles over the Norse kingdoms of the Carribean, and their war with the Aztec Empire....

that was an outgrowth of a question a mailing list friend of mine posed once. he was trying to work out the effects on history had the native americans not suffered massive depopulation with the european contact in the 15th century and beyond.

i pointed out that for that scenario to work, barring magic or other acts of writer fiat, they'd have to have been exposed much earlier, giving them time to gain immunities and repopulate. i suggested that increased interactions via vinland as a possible vector...he thought of the whole "vinland as a refuge for dissident vikings" angle, and we both wound up thinking of the effects of that. utterly useless for his purpose, but a fun invention..

I stand corrected...some of the above stories I cited were in the 'Otherness' collection...
Still, Brin's one of the top sci-fi writers IMHO...I loved his 'Earth'(Nuke war on Switzerland? Space Shuttle resurrection? Yeah!) and even 'Kiln People' was amusing...

In 1945, the American military was able to duplicate German V-1s and, together with Britain, were ready to manufacture their own versions(called the 'Loon') in mass-production lots for ship and submarine launch against Japan, as part of the softening up of the Home Islands in preparation for invasion...The atomic bomb cut that idea short...
But what IF the Bomb had hit snags, or political pressure had forced the military to go more conventional, and a protracted long distance war of bombardment had replaced atomic bombing and a conventional invasion?

Don't know enough about Warcraft to know for certain...
You may as well substitute any of the PFRPG nations or races, or Middle Earth for that matter...(in which case, 'The Dark Heart of Africa' takes on a new meaning, if you have Mordor right in the middle....)

We were going ot do something like this. We did in fact capture the V1, and were getting ready to use it as a ship-launched weapon system against Japan during the Invasion.

Turned out to be unnecessary. so we scrapped it after teh surrender.

Norman Polmar and K.J. Moore's book -Cold War Submarines' deals with early cruise missile submarines and the proposed 'Loon' bombardment...also with the Japanese aircraft-carrying subs...Frustratingly enough, we actually had a few captured at the end of the war, but they were scrapped soon afterwards...Damn, if one of those had survived, it would have made an excellent museum piece...

Possibly, but since both nations have effectively the same resources/resource problems, and same foreign issues, trade is unlikely(there might some temptation to cue the 1060's Earth to avoid some political pratfalls, and pursue some technologies), and military intervention would be problematic....
There would be alot of controversy between trying to 'win' certain wars and situations, and avoiding them altogether on the 2010 side, while the 1960s folk might be leary of depending too much on information from another time line...
After all, you may take solice that the Cold War doesn't end in the nuclear extinction of all Human life, but what if it was the very arms race that led to the Soviets bankrupting themselves? How much can you trust the outcome of events if there's already a change to begin with? Or are some events inevitable and independent of who's President...
In the end, though, there might be more screwups than successes, as the wrong information gets passed over and misinterpreted, either accidentally, or deliberately, by various parties..."Don't let Bush/Obama into politics' for example...Or "Take the oil fields now"...
And there would be the temptation on the part of individuals to tell their past selves tidbits like 'Jump on this Internet technology NOW and you'll make MILLIONS later."

2010 England IMMEDIATELY cracks down on the Skinheads(no Nazi symps, please).
Massive problems break out as modern day England is much less self-sufficient than 1940s England(which is barely hanging on as is with the U-BOat campaign wrecking shipping).

They would also immediately have to prevail on the American Navy to ship supplies to them...On the other hand, they'll have some opportunity(as the Japanese will not yet be able to hit them, unlike the situation if 2010 England had appeared NEXT to 1940 England in the Atlantic), so they'll have time to secure their borders and rebuild their Homeguard defenses.
On the other hand, they'd be able to nuke targets NOW, with their jet aircraft and any SSBNs that were in port at the time of the transition---whether they would, or would settle for just accurately bombing the hell out of the Japanese high command and the Furherbunker, remains to be seen.

The Japanese would try to bomb it...they would already invade the Aleutians later, assuming that's where the Doolittle Raid had come from.
Of course, if the New British Navy/Royal Air Force prevented the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in the FDIRST place...
