While the Taoist alinement in the MC book says it's (good), if you look at the details, it would fall between unprin. and Anar.

I usually play Scrupulous (good).
Taoist (good) i'm very fond of too.
Aberrant (evil) i only use for Wolverine types of characters. Basicly a good guy, but is willing to get the job done if need be, but...has Honor and keeps his word.

Re: ~ Aligments ?? Which Do your Prefer to Play ??
I prefer not to use alignments at all unless I'm running a campaign about TWO-FISTED MEN OF ADVENTURE! In a larger-than-life campaign of colourful heroes and villains, Alignments make a handy (if not exactly essential) rough guide, since they're basically nothing more than a summary of how various archetypal adventure story characters would act.
In anything else, they're something I'd much rather leave behind because they have virtually no in-game effect and royally suck at helping to define any character which doesn't match a narrow range of hero/antihero/villain cliches.

Unprincipled or Aberrant.
There should be a specific sub-forum of the Rifts forum dedicated to the only hope for salvation of the human race, the Coalition States.
Re: ~ Aligments ?? Which Do your Prefer to Play ??
I prefer Unprincipled for alot of characters, It's always seemed to me to have the most leeway. Then if a character's personality seems more hard-core as I'm creating him/her I go Aberrant because while evil, they still have honour and a sense of propriety and it would still make sense for them to perform acts of good alongside harder core death/destruction when needs be. I like Taoist as well (I really need to get Mystic China!) And I was surprised Taoist wasn't reprinted in Rifts China.

I usually start at unprincipaled as that is essentially the 'standard' alignment for most people. However, I like to work towards changing that, to get to scrupulous or even principled over a campaign, or drop the other way if it suits the character.

Usually Aberrant, sometimes Unprincipled.

agreed. when designing a character, i usually come up somewhere between unprincipled and anarchist, with elements of one or two other alignments thrown in and elements of the 'official' alignment missing. or, in other words... the alignments tend to be a bit too tightly defined, imo, and are at best only very rarely useful or needed for game mechanic reasons. if they were a bit more loosely defined, i think they'd be better, but still not especially needed most of the time.
Re: ~ Aligments ?? Which Do your Prefer to Play ??
I've really only had two characters so far, a Scrupulous one and an Unprincipled one. Between the two, though, I think Scrupulous was definitely a lot more fun to play, so it gets my vote.

Re: ~ Aligments ?? Which Do your Prefer to Play ??
i typically write down an alignment on the character sheet, mention to the GM any major differences, and carry on. in that light, i usually write down anarchist or unprincipled, with the caveat that my anarchist characters don't necessarily have any particularly strong anti-establishment leanings (ie they don't *hate* people being leaders, but they'd rather not have the responsibility themselves. but they're typically not morally strong enough to be considered unprincipled) and the unprincipled characters typically being a little bit more flexible on some of the issues (not likely to torture, but quite likely to take 'dirty money' from defeated enemies if given the chance, for example)
Re: ~ Aligments ?? Which Do your Prefer to Play ??
I play a wide variety but the anti-conformist in me loves playing Principled. People see it as restricting, I see it as a character trait.
