Limitations on stacking?

Unread post by Llez »

Are there any specific rules prohibiting multiplicative stacking? For instance, exact wording aside, if you were to cast Superhuman Strength for a supernatural PS of 30, then cast Giant would the +50% apply to your new 30 PS? I thought I had read somewhere that only additive things actually stack, and this particular case Giant would increase the original PS rather than the magically altered number. Unfortunately I can't find where that was written, assuming it was. Also, first post on the forums. Yay.

I don't recall any direct or official word on this matter, something left to GM's to figure out.
Getting a mage to tell you where the hydra is...10,000 gold
Hiring a summoner... 40,000 gold
Hiring one hundred 10th level mercenaries... 98,567 gold
Giving a hydra skull to your necromancer... priceless

Board? Read bad fan fiction!

You know, i'd forgotten i'd even sent this out for approval. A root canal and account theft can make you forget lots of things.

I have asked something similar to this on the Rifts forums.

I was curious why people say you add the base stat .. when the spells clearly state double the stat. Currently I asked that about the Speed stat.

There are spells out there (And other things) that clearly state double speed .. (not speed attribute, but speed) which means (at least logically to myself) that if you have a character who can run at 30mph .. (forget what that speed "Attribute" would be) that when you get a speed doubler spell you now run at 60mph .. and then when you use another spell to double your speed it goes from 60 to 120 mph .. an yet when you use another its doubled yet again .. (so on an so forth, I've used 4 spells an 3 other things to double a character's speed, an none of them say double the speed attribute but double the speed )

So I've asked .. where did the people get the idea it only doubles the speed attribute.

All I have gotten so far is that it doubles the base attribute not the actual speed of the character from 1 poster, When I challanged the poster to show me a canon refrenced documentation of that rule .. I got nothing in return.

I believe, some people either read things into the description of the spell .. to suit their games, then attempt to try to pass it off as a legal in game rule / law.

But in all fairness .. I have stated if that poster could produce even 1 quote from any Palladium book that backs up his side of the debate, I'd ceed the point.

But yet again, they could not.

Book of Magic, page 22, second question on the left column spells it out pretty well for strength. I would assume the same applies for any spells that increase something linked to an attribute.

In Rifts, there are no limits on stacking whatsoever.
