~ ONI ~ Cyberai ... and Cyberinja
We all Know from PW-SB1 about the ONI and the Bushi Federation. And about the CYBERAI warriors.
OK. The CYBERAI mentions in their write fluff about having Force Fields built-in to augnment their armor for additional protection. However, the Stat Write-up for the Cyberai Cyborg body seems to have forgot about the built-in force field aspect.
SO. I think, we should add a Bushi built Cyborg Force Field to the write up for them. I'm thinking about 300 mdc for the force field is about right. So thats 420 Body + 480 body armor +300 force field. Yeah that 1,200 mdc. But look at these guys. They are built for Close combat, so it makes sense they have that extra edge in protection.
ANOTHER TOPIC...
If the ONI built Cyborg SAMURAI (Cyberai), why wouldn't they also build super Cyborg NINJA too (Cyberinja) ??
I Think they would. Because it would make alot of sense for them to do so. The Cyberinja would be built for Spd, Stealth, Dexterixty in mind. It would have lighter mdc protection of course. Maybe even the barest cyborg-armor, but I think the Force Field would be the greatest protection if they need it. Their PP would need to be Higher than normal, no lower than 26 I say, but even higher would be better IMHO. Nanomachine repair systems a must too. Special Stealth tech to make them quite would need to written up. Or better yet, the Cyberinja might be based on the Wolfen Quatoria (star marshals) in concept. Look like normal ONI, but underneath are these hightech cyborgs.

Opinions about Both or Either Topic ??

Re: ~ ONI ~ Cyberai ... and Cyberinja
I've never paid much attention to the Oni Cyberai, do they have access to a heavy Cyborg body armor? I always thought they were much like that Triax Borg where it's an all-in-one combo. I imagine though they'd have the heaviest force field possible built into them, one at least equal to the NE version.
You probably don't have cyber-ninja Oni because the organization that runs them are the psi-based Oni Ninja class. No one builds Cyber-Ninja because they just don't stack up to the Oni Ninja and their rigid mindset doesn't allow for cyborg systems specialized in mimicking a ninja.

Fair warning: I consider being called a munchkin a highly offensive slur and do report people when they err in doing so.

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

Most of Triax/NGR's Cyborgs uses Removable armor. Only the Maurader and Monster cyborgs are "all-in-one" bodies like a robot body.
The Cyberai has removeable Cyborg Samurai Armor.
Cyborg Body = 420 MDC
Heavy Cyborg Samurai Armor = 480 mdc.
Total 900 mdc. PS 50, PP 22, Spd 88 (60mph)
However the Write mentions them possessing Cyborg Force Fields too. BUT this is not listed in the list of their Armor or bionic parts for the body, almost like it was left out on accident, or they just assumed we would use the NE-Cyborg Force Field stats in PW itself...
Since they have Corperate Cyberai (no ties to the shoguns), I see a Need for Corperate Cyberinjas too. Those who seek to ninja-like using technology. They could also serve in CCW/CAF Special Forces like Cyberai, but with a different focus, on Espionage and Stealth instead of brute force. They could fill a special place in the game.

Re: ~ ONI ~ Cyberai ... and Cyberinja
@T-G - I'd say the force field would be equal tot eh super heavy Naruni one at about 160. Any higher and the Naruni would definitely be trying to steal, if they haven't already stolen, that tech and redo it for themselves.
Besides force fields, especially for a close combat specialist is more for initial/first strike contact/protection than long term protection.
As for Cyber-ninjas, just use the one out of Rifts japan as a basis with some PW tweaks to it and you should be good to go.

Maybe but if you used the ninja-borg out of Japan as a basis, not so much.

Re: ~ ONI ~ Cyberai ... and Cyberinja
The Japan Cyber-ninjas are brute force types. Not really ninja themed to me.
NE Robot/Cyborg Force Fields provide x2 the protection of the force field harness.
See the N-50 Superheavy Force Field's protection for their Robot model, which cyborgs can get..
But for the Oni, i would lower the protection to 300 mdc instead of 320 mdc. Basicly having the Oni making cheaper knock-offs of the Naruni robot model.
The Force Field would have to be built into the samurai styled armor though.

I would use a Cyberhumaniod for the starting point for a cyberinja concept though.
Make them agile (PP26+), and able to blend in a crowd type.

Re: ~ ONI ~ Cyberai ... and Cyberinja
I don't see why the Oni couldn't build something akin to the Cyborg Ninja of Rifts Japan, except perhaps cultural. IN the fundamentalist minds of the Oni, ninja are mystic, and any 'true' ninja is not going to give up that potential and that edge for the dubious advantages offered by soulless technology, to become a well-spoken brute(but a brute nevertheless) like the Cyberai. It just isn't done.
That having been said, any cyberninja that appears is going to be seeen as a pretender, a creation or hireling only of companies and organizations that are too dishonorable, too low in status, or not true enough to be able to hire TRUE ninja(and that's saying a lot about the organization!). The cyberninja themselves are seen as second-rate at best, cheaters, wannabes, and pathetic pretenders, not to be associated with, ideally humiliated and dispatched if encountered in the field. If a cyberninja WERE to beat a True Ninja, it's a fluke and a disgrace, to be avenged as expediantly as possible.
THis isn't to say that the mystic ninja don't sometimes associate with the cyberninja, but it's a rare thing, even rarer still for the mystic ninja to admit respect fror his opposite number. And certainly the mystic ninja organizations have occasionally made use of cyberninja...through third or fourth parties, as unwitting dupes, fall-guys, and distractions to the mystic ninjas' REAL activities.

I think of it this way.
If I can build a cyborg ninja that looks like a normal member of society (of any race), and make that cy-ninja extraordiary agile beyond most true ninjas. I'm going to do it. Specially if the cy-ninja is its weapons, that never needs to carry extra equipment. I'm going to do it.

THat's the PRAGMATIC Ninja approach..."It works. We use it. Everything else is windowdressing." Such people regard themselves as the true ninja. Of course, those who have chosen to focus on magic and psionics feel differently. Hence are ninja wars born, over who has the right to claim the title of 'Ninja'. It's all total BS, of course, since what it amounts to is that BOTH groups are simply people paid to kill other people via unconventional methods(historically, the original ninja were little mroe than clannish Japanese hillbillies who used guerilla warfare against their better paid and equipped expansionist neighbors who came calling...before their legend became comemrcialized and sellable).

The Universal Ninja Puzzle
THE HERODOTUS COMPLEX: NOTES BY 'OILGOF LIVY wrote:Chapter 4; The Universal Ninja Puzzle:
On Old Earth, societies arose in which the ruling elite forbade their lower classes the right to carry weapons. Those that did not tended to acquire new rulers, usually from among the lower classes. As these lower classes often found themselves in situations where having a weapon would be A Good Thing, combat systems were developed that required either no weapons at all, or utilized “harmless” objects such as farming equipment. This worked surprisingly well. In addition, it was discovered that practitioners could develop an enhanced mental state which vastly increased the effectiveness of the fighter, as well as making him an over-all better person. (At least in his own mind.)
Perhaps the most versatile system on Old Earth was that of ninjustu, which was developed for military spies in feudal Japan and, aside from the more general lessons in archery, swordsmanship, unarmed combat, the use of artillery and firearms and swimming in armor, also included training in disguise, escape, concealment, geography, meteorology, medicine, explosives, and avoiding rust.
One of the more amazing discoveries made by galactic sociologists is that almost everyone has Ninja.
The Prime Movers have admitted that this is one subject that utterly baffles them, and as a result, they do not discuss it.
There are billions of different planets, some with hundreds of different sentient races engaged in almost a trillion different types of society, and almost all of them have produced a form of warrior that is easily recognized as one fitting the “Ninja Template.”
Many of these races cannot see eye to eye (literally) on the definition of such basic concepts as Food, Shelter, Sex and Memory, but they all have Ninja.
Sometimes they rule, sometimes they're slaves. Sometimes they're something rare and myth-like from the “Ancient Time of Really Good Breakfasts,” sometimes they have to be swept aside before you can get to your front door. Sometimes they save civilization, and sometimes they destroy it.
But there are things they all have in common:
They are usually very dangerous (at least to other members of their race. The most dangerous P'Thhard in the universe will still get stepped on by anything over one meter tall). They are very adept at concealment (It is now known than Ooonge “ninja” were responsible for the destruction of the first seventy five landing parties on their planet, who never realized that they were anything more than just another mountain range.) They possess abilities that are normally not associated with their races (Stlangworz “ninja” have been reported walking and chewing hebz roots at the same time) and they are utterly convinced that theirs is the only true way and that all other “ninja” are incompetent posers.
Because of this they all hate each other. This, galactic ecologists assure us, is what keeps their numbers down to acceptable levels.

That webcomic is kinda infamous in our social circles.
Though it adds another stanza to fandom ninjadom.

Definitely sounds like a better word, after all how many nuclear engineers do you know who create webcomics, let alone enteraining ones like Mark does?

Good one. I didn't know the creator of Freefall was a nuclear engineer. But it makes sense with some of his statements in the past.

Oh yes, he works at a plant in Michigan, or so far as I know he's still working there. He's also on the idealistic end with regards to people (even if the necessity of the less idealistic sorts is necessary for the comic and might have one think he's on the cynical end). Sadly haven't gotten to see him in years as I've simply not been at any of the conventions he's gone to but a really great guy.

Re: ~ ONI ~ Cyberai ... and Cyberinja
being a nuclear engineer would explain some of his laughable oversights regarding space tech... Iron jets, really? the Savage chicken is pretty cool, but i'm not a technical guy and even i know iron is practically non-existant in interstellar space, much less within the heliosphere of a star. mentally i just replace those with "magnetic sails"..

Hi there!
It would make him - maybe, and just maybe - superior in only one aspect: assaults (ie. climb the wall, sneak past/silence guards, kill the daimyo, optionally leaving unnoticed or die

However, "mystic" ninjas would easily pass "airport detectors" (which would stop borgs) and just blend in any crowd.
They can be sleeping agents for decades.

This said, there would be Oni assassin borgs - simply because they are MANUFACTURED, not born and raised.

Deadman charge... definitely ...plasma warhead, maybe with an enhanced EMP factor(wipe out unprotected electronics and surveillance records, plus disrupt radio comms to buy any of your still-free buddies time to make good their own escapes). Since you can't (and aren't going to) go through metal detectors and weapons scanners and are held for assault missions, you may as well pack yourself full of explosives just in case.

Ninja'ing is NEVER an easy occupation, unles your clan has sunk so low they knock over parking meters for a living. Taking candy from babies is no longer considered an 'easy' job because too many demigods/godlings, and doting samurai parents will up and kick your @$$ if you so much as TRY to swipe candy from them. Worse yet, they might make you change their diapers.
Even then, parking meters in Bushi territory tend to fight back.

The Cyberinja price for a simple Hit. 100 lbs of Gold.
That is per Target to be Hit mind you. But once they take the contract, they keep spending in more and more Cyberinjas as needed until the job is done.
I'd give the Cyberinjas Special Therm-optic camo tech, which renders them invisible. GitS Style.
