~ SYMBIOTES ~ Is just me or do they need expanding ??

I ask because, We should be able to create a symbiote just like the Riathenor Symbiote from Aliens Unlimited at least.

Am I the only one who just Ignores the Symbiote Power Selections ?
I mean come on, they are just aweful as printed to be honest.

IF you decided your Symbiote was a Eugenic Experiment which is a possible origin for them. Would you allow a Player to instead use the Eugenic Class method to create the symbiote itself, and the abilities it grants the host ?

Also, If we EXPAND the Symbiote Class like the Super-Soldier Class was expanded, we could add a selection of Pregen Symbiotes that give exact powers and abilities. An sdc version of the Maxi-Killer Juicer would be a good one. The Original version of the Riathenor Symbiote Armor would be another. A few more would be great. Maybe even rules for building your own Living Armors symbiotes Splicers RPG-like in SDC terms, ARs, etc...

???

Yes i would like to see an expanded Symbiote class....its good now, but there seems to be something missing

My biggest problem with the symbiote class is you cannot create a character most iconic to having a symbiote.

Well that and the super-abilities as is is pretty limited so far.

Yeah, the super abilities section is very limited, especially since PU3

I feel a need to point out that if the main reason you have for wanting the change a class is so you can recreate a character from another IP, perhaps you should step back and think that maybe such was intentional. Either to make a distinction between that character and this game, so they are not associated with each other, and perhaps for legal reasons, such as not getting sued for ripping off someone else's Intellectual Property, as an extension of the whole 'No Conversions' rule.

I actually like the symbiote class. It's one of the few that could turn an overweight geek like me into a superhero.

That being said it did seem..... Rushed? Condensed for page count? Incomplete?

It's hard putting a term on it but it does seem like it.. could be more. I'm not sure what all I'd put in, but it defiantly seems like it could be more.

The one we have is a good start, and really with the right GM and group that's what you need. The "Start". Sadly some GM's are like "If it's not word for word in the book you can't have it". Which is a bit sad. Indeed it would be very very hard to 'build' the 'iconic symbiote hero/villian" (( If you're thinking the one I'm thinking that we clearly can't name)).

Still it's a fun catagory and with a bit of imagination (( both to the nature of the symbiote and how it looks/acts/reacts)) You can get to where you're going. I totally understand the feeling of "Well I shouldn't havve to go off the map to get there"

I agree it could use some expansion.

As for premade symbiotes, that's a pretty cool idea. Someone somewhere probably designed some. (( I mean biomancy in rifts is pretty much the same thing)) you can create such as that through back story though. "My symbiote has _____ and _____ and _____ powers because it was Designed/born/bred/created by _____ for the purpose of ______." That's more of a story idea. Vs just random "It fell out of the sky and has three random powers." in theory both are viable. Sometimes (( VERY OFTEN)) in comics just.. random things fall out of the sky or what have you. Conversely, just as often those random things were designed by someone/thing/evolution/aliens/ ect for a purpose.

Could be your symbiote seemed random to you but is built or evolved for a specific reason. That's good story for your char and gives the GM ways to go. I mean you might just think it's an awesome costume that does certain things,... till it tries to take you over and when you fight it off, goes on to someone else.... or you might think it's just technology... till it gives birth.

That's the yummy feed for GAMES, vs just 'Fights'. Your symbiote could get sick.... and you need to heal it. Or it could want to breed and you need to find it a mate. All sorts of things you CAN do with them.

Building a Palladium symbiote that has already been introduced in a AU or Rifts book should be possible with the Symbiote Class at least.

I've had players who wanted to build symbiotes kinda like the original Riathenor like it appeared in the original AU sourcebook. But make their different symbiote a new class of Riathenor armor from the Riathenor dimension. Their line of thinking was the one in AU could be the Special Forces Symbiote Armor for their military, and that the one they wanted to build would be for a different purpose, like Aerial-Troopers (picture Mechanical wings or jet packs) that Fly, less firepower. He wanted to use the NewWest Sidewinder Samas at one point for the look. I thought sure, why not. Would make sense to me, they could make a symbiote like that.

As for the most Iconic symbiote who must not be named. Yeah, it would be nice if that was a truely possible outcome too. Actually nowadays it is closer, since the MonsterForm power came out in PU3.

Snip....As for the most Iconic symbiote who must not be named. Yeah, it would be nice if that was a truely possible outcome too. Actually nowadays it is closer, since the MonsterForm power came out in PU3.

Yeah, with the new powers in PU3, a small update should be in order.....plus that type of Symbiote should now be possible :D

THEn get Splicers and Notice how very Symbiotic the organic technologies are.
daNd lthen there is atlantis and the Splynn Dimensional Market places with their symbiotes......

On a completely unrelated note, Has anyone combined ME Metal and ME Crystal? So you can only use the armor at the same time? Maybe have the attribute bonuses overlap but not stack(so only the highest bonus is given to a particular attribute), then give him Body Weapons and Swingline. I had an idea for an astronaut who had found/bonded with a symbiote on a space mission and then he quit NASA in protest of the space shuttles being scuttled and joined some superhero scientist who wnted to "take america back to the moon" with superpowers/magic/supertech etc. As a group they don't know he has powers but use him for PR.

I can't speak for others, but for me, when I think HEROES UNLIMITED and "Symbiont", I don't think of 40+ different kinds of Slugs and bugs stuck to someone's chest or skull.

I think "Sleek alien symbiont that bonds with someone and forms their 'costume' and gives them powers... and can give birth to others of it's own, type."

You know.. the kind that has been shown in comics for decades. Not the iky fugly wormwood/Splynn type.

I feel the Symbiote category should just select the super powers using the standard tables, and not the weird table included in the write-up. Also, the actual symbiotes need to be more generic... If I wanted to play a hero with Splugorth symbiotes, I would pick one from my Rifts Atlantis sourcebook and give it to him.

If that's what he meant, maybe he shouldn't have used the phrase "most iconic to having a symbiote."

I very much feel this way too. The one time I played the class it was a offspring of...... I can't say. It'd be converting. But yeah it wasn't a sploog bug/crab/leech thing.

And when I think of Eugenics I think of actual breeding programs to make the perfect human/alien/animal/whatever, not genetic engineering to make a biological borg, but that's what they gave us. :p

I think they need total rewrite. If I get symbiote or my player gets one, it almost always is re rolled.

Being 100% honest, it looks like they wanted to do the Venom/Carnage/Toxin/Antivenom type, but then pulled at the end and just modled it sort of half effort after the atlantis ones. I think it kinda fails as written, but it's easily enough fixed, should you want/need to. In our games we've allowed the mmore "Second skin/Costume" typed ones. Even let them have offspring. It's pretty fun.

Do you just let your players pick the type of symbiot? Do you make your own rules for it? If you have house rules for it I would love to see them.

I think it kinda fails as written, but it's easily enough fixed, should you want/need to. In our games we've allowed the mmore "Second skin/Costume" typed ones. Even let them have offspring. It's pretty fun.


Do you just let your players pick the type of symbiot? Do you make your own rules for it? If you have house rules for it I would love to see them.


Not on this board, though.
