So I'm working on a Rifter Article....
Originally I planned it as a nice little twenty page article about a small barony in the Disputed lands of the Eastern Territory. The Problem is, it's quickly becoming a massive thing. What was envisioned as twenty pages is now sixty and counting, and I'm only about a quarter of the way through it. Or rather what I have in my head, which is probably another hundred pages easy of text, not counting maps.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm excited about my little book, but the problem is, I'm wondering if I should still turn it in to PB, since it's now alot longer then I originally planned it, and it seems anything for PBFRPG gets lost in limbo. Or if I shouldn't just convert it into a PDF and post it on some fanpage somewhere?

Finish it and submit it to the rifter. If it sees print, it could turn into a sourcebook for PFRPG, or it could get into the rifter (but chopped into smaller pieces spread across several rifters). Don't let the size discourage you.
I'm interested in seeing more stuff about the Eastern Territory, so keep us posted please!

Without giving to much away for my little barony, heres the basic.
The Original settlers were nobles from the Western Empire, former members of Houses that were destroyed during the Civil War of 300 years ago. The Nobles brought with them their soldiers(What few they had.) there slaves, and what few members of their families still lived. The region has grown over the last three hundred years, but very slowly.
There's six towns, north of the great river, around a large lake. Each town focuses on one industry. The place has resources that would make it extremely wealthy and prosperous.
But, it's surrounded by inhuman hordes(Not counting the Wolfen or Coyles). The Dominion is doing what it can to protect the Barony, as it is a member of the Dominion, but the area is just to dangerous for large scale deployment of Dominion forces. The Wolfen are about as well causing trouble for the people here. The Region is of strategic value to both the Wolfen Empire, and the Dominion, as the River that runs from the Lake the Barony is built around is a Deep water river(Think the Mississippi River) and would allow rapid transit of Wolfen Troops in mass into the Great River communities, and possibly even Wisdom! And as if this wasn't enough there's the problem of the Ruins.
Ancient beyond measuring, the Barony was built in an area that is heavy with Ruins that date to well before the Elf-Dwarf war. Scholars suspect that the ruins are evidence of a highly advanced Giant race, since all the buildings, and other artifacts recovered from the Ruins, Lake, and River are built for massive humanoids. Some scholars suspect it's possibly a Titan Kingdom, or perhaps Rahu-man. But only one band of adventurers have ever delved deep enough into the ruins to discover the most terrifying secret.
The Ruins aren't abandoned.

I have that problem too - don't worry, just finish it. They may still print it as it is.

Re: So I'm working on a Rifter Article....
Just a thought, but you could try breaking it up into several smaller articles for the Rifter, each one dealing with a particular aspect of the Barony. For example the first part being about the basic religious and/or political outlooks of the Barony in relation to the rest of the Eastern Territory as well as key figures related to that area, such as the Baron himself and immediate/important family members, political rivals or allies and key religious figures. Next article could deal with commerce and the merchant districts or the military or the general populace, or what ever else you have brewing in your head until finally, the entire fleshed out Barony is in print in a sort of small mini-series of information. It's also a great way to compartmentalize your writing, giving you a set goal for a particular aspect of your barony and getting it done before moving on to the next subject.
Good luck and happy writing!

Well as it's going now I have it broken down into chapters, with an overview of the Barony that explains basic life there, as well as political and religious points, a basic geography of the region, and an assessment of the dangers there. This is then followed by a chapter for each town, Dominion politics, the Hordes, and the Ruins.
I could then send them in one chapter at a time, but each kinda flows into the other. I'll see what I can do to make each a stand alone section.
The main thing is I really(And I admit my inner geek is showing) wanna share my little corner of the PB world with other gamers, that was why I started this thread. The problem was my ideals just keep coming and I was afraid that if I sent the whole thing in, it would just get shelved until doomsday. But everyone seems to think I should try anyway But I'm going to try your idea, if I can make it so that it can be easily broken up, that only increases the chance it'll get printed!

I had to wipe the drool off the keyboard before I posted . . . .
This is a great place and I would love to have my group have to go there for some reason or another. I love ruins!
This sounds delicious! I don't want a serving . . . I want the whole pie! LOL
Add to the list of "Eagerly Awaiting"

Re: So I'm working on a Rifter Article....
Well the idea behind the Barony is to provide a fully fleshed out environment, one that newbies can pick up and go BAM! We're playing here, it's got NPC's I can use, Role-playing notes for them, and plenty of adventure ideas. I can run this without any problems.
But I wanted enough mystery, and enough adventure that experienced GM's and players would want to go there as well. It has a sort of Dragonlance theme to it( Home is where the heart is, romance, danger, mystery etc) that I hope most players like. I'm trying to avoid a Forgotten Realms feel though( You know where everything is metaplot and the PC's might as well pick up a chair and some popcorn and just watch the NPC's do everything.) I want the PC's to feel like Big Damn Heroes. It's my goal, but at the same time I wanted there to be worthwhile NPC's. People that your PC would want to talk to, or hang out in a pub with and toast a few rounds while the Minstrels and Serving Wenches play and dance.

Re: So I'm working on a Rifter Article....
All the monsters and creatures that have appeared in Rifter #57 and #58 where all in one
manuscript that I submitted to Kevin to be a easy to print Palladium Fantasy book. Instead I get
an email from Wayne asking to put some of the monsters in the Rifter. So far only 10 haven't made
it in. So I say submit it and see what happens .

Dawn of a New Era was 65+ pages when finished, and I submitted it hoping for it to be one book. Nope - split into 2 rifters.
