Exotic Mount Suggestions?
I'm looking to make a mage who rides an exotic mount of some kind, but every time I think I've found a creature whose description allows it to be ridden, it also has a percentage penalty to anyone who is not a Simvan. Could anyone tell me if there are any exotic mounts which do NOT have penalties to ride them inherent in their descriptions, and if so what they might be and what book I could find them in? I appreciate any help in this matter.

Dragon-Cat from WB12: Psyscape. They actually give their rider a +20% bonus to Exotic Horsemanship.

What's your character like in general?
What kind of mage, what kind of personality, what kind of spells does he know, etc.?

A Temporal Mage who's a bit hotheaded, and is on the move after a recent experience where he lost one person close to him and had to leave behind another. He has mostly utility and infiltration spells.

Blood Rider's Mount in SA2, (want to say it's Blood Lizard, could be wrong about the name but they are in that section).
Might want to checkout the PF animals in Conversion Book 1r.

They're not actually good mounts. You can kill a Rhino by chasing it with a truck for 5 minutes.

No? Then if we're talking mage, why not give them something unique. I mean, this is Rifts, where the books are suggestions when it comes to critters. How about a saddled giant snake (cobra, rattler, boa...)?

Re: Exotic Mount Suggestions?
grab a behemoth from Splicers. Allow the mage to customize it slightly with basic enhancements and the behemoth is known to be loving to humans and willing to lay down their lives for their riders. If one could get use to magic (and be smuggled onto Earth), the Behemoth gives a mage some great long range weapons capabilities.

Re: Exotic Mount Suggestions?
Seriously if you are wanting a mage who rides big critters look into lemurians. They have the innate animal friendlyness similar to psi stalkers/simvan and the lemuria source book has a large number of suitable mounts from natural to lemurian bio enhanced. They lean heavily towards magic so most types of magic users would be available and are human enough looking if you hide the gills you won't have any trouble blending in.

kaid wrote:Seriously if you are wanting a mage who rides big critters look into lemurians.
I wasnt looking for anything personally, just responding to the thread.
Good to know about the Lemurians, this has moved the book from 3rd to 2nd on my 'need to get' list.
As for a big critter to ride, I think my fav on the above list is the Bontu.. cause a creature that size, with the extraordinary speed super power... awesome!

There's also the Phantom Mount spell to consider. That's about as magical as a mage's mount can get.

I was thinking more in the "coolness factor" a rhino mount would have. But then again they are more likely better mounts for semi-giant chars. Who would be able to trash said truck by themselves.
Or,
as a platform for what would normally be a vehicle mounted weapon.

I rather like the Ursan Forest Steed, from Warlords of Russia, page 169. Sort of like a cross between a grizzly bear and a dog. They're easily domesticated, friendly to their owners, even do well with kids and the mentally retarded. And in a pinch you can eat them if you have to and the meat is tasty. And they look cool.
Lt. Nyota Uhura: I'm impressed. For a moment there, I thought you were just a dumb hick who only has sex with farm animals.
James Tiberius Kirk: Well, not _only_...
