Favorite Rifts vehicle

Unread post by cyberdon »

For purposes of this thread, refer to this definition:

Vehicle: any means in or by which someone travels or something is carried or conveyed...

Ie. SAMAS is a vehicle.

I've quite a few, but the Coalition Spider Walker really stands out for me.

Also, the Thunderbird Assault Robot is a close second. At first I was like 'meh', then, after GMing it, I was dazzled by its sheer POWERRRR!!!!

The downside is that the Thunderbird Assault Robot requires two to operate.

CS Death Bringer Hover APC...it hovers...making it effectively all-terrain, it's got good arrmor, all-around coverage weaponry, a big honking turret, and lots of space for my crew/friends and gear. Downside is it's a CS vehicle and requires massive amounts of renovation to hide it from both CS death squads and trigger-happy Tolkeenite retribution teams. Other downside is I require a well-trained crew to properly use all its strengths.

The Leopard APC from Triax. It is the coolest looking ground conveyance in the game. It is also pretty well armed and armored. The only downside is the amount of crew it takes to pilot.

For single person vehicles, I like the Rolling Thunder from Juicer Uprising. I use it for a lot of my wilderness scouts as long range vehicle.

I'd get up in the morning and watch the sun rise over the yardarm of my sky-ship as the sails billowed in the breeze and the land slid by 300-odd metres below. I'd grasp the mahogany ship's wheel, turn her nose a few points back onto the line, and feel pity for all those poor bastards below who have to work for a living. - My idea of the good life in Rifts.

The Roadhog (is that what it is called? I am foggy) is one of my favorite vehicles in the game. I've always wanted one but none of my characters have ever really suited having one.

I don't care about canon answers. I'm interested in good, well-reasoned answers and, perhaps, a short discussion of how that answer is supported or contradicted by canon.

If I don't provide a book and page number, then don't assume that I'm describing canon. I'll tell you if I'm describing canon.

Years and years ago I made up stats for an APC seen in a popular series of Movies featuring insectoid bipedal xenomorphs. Many of our groups have used it since then. But I don't think that's really what the OP Was aiming for. I think they wanted official stuff.

For "Official" Stuff, I actually like the --Northern Gun-- version of the CS Command 'car'. (Page 164/165 CS war campaign.)

A MD Hovorjeep, half as much MDC as a Mark 5, sits 6 people, roughly the number of people in a PC group. And can squeeze another in if needed.
200mph, which is pretty fast. It's alot faster when you realize it's not limited to a few feet off the ground but 500 feet. Not very many natural things in the world out side of mountains are over 500 feet tall. And even mountains you don't just hop over but fly up and down.

It comes equipped with a light rail gun, but it can fold down and away or even be detached. So while it's a tough, fast, hovor platform that can go over or through any hard terrain, it's also something you can take into town with out everyone and their mother going 'OMG!! MERC WITH MD WEAPONS!!! WATCH OUT!!" or "GET HIM!!!" Wich is really nice.

Don't let the 'CS COMMAND CAR" Fool you, in the write up it says directly that Northern Gun sells it's own version and they have good avability. So they don't stand out as being super unique either. I.E. they don't make you an -instant- target and don't -instantly- scream "military" or 'Merc".

As far as PA's go, I love the Flying Titan. It is among the fastest power armors around that can carry 6 SRM's.

As for Tank's/APC's, I love the Naruni Juggernaut Heavy Hover Tank.

For a more low key APC without the whole bullseye painted all over it, then I try to get the hover APC from Triax/NGR, the MZ-10 Wilderness Crusader. It's fairly cheap (when compared to other APC's), and it has decent speed.

I prefer taking modern vehicles and adapting them to Rifts.
The Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck, currently in use by the US Military, is an 8-wheeled, diesel-powered workhorse whose bed can be fitted with a massive variety of items, such as a crane, large truck bed, or even a full-sized shipping container or train boxcar. Take the precise design, make it out of MD materials, and go for it. This is the vehicle that my brand-new Techno-Wizard will be starting off play with.

Kitsune has one of these on her website, called the Longhorn, and a version produced by Golden Age Weaponsmiths.

HEMTTs are awesome vehicles....road-legal heavy haulers. Want bigger? You have to start looking at strip mine trucks, but start looking at nuclear or TW power conversions, because gas mileage on the big boys stinks.

I'm calling dibs on a Paladin Steel version, but it's a German company, so if it survived into the Golden Age, Triax likely either bought them up pre-Rifts or salvaged the company post-Rifts.

I took that and modified them with this:
http://www.coroflot.com/jonpope/Terex-Titan-560
and another version was using this:
http://www.coroflot.com/jonpope/560-ton ... k-concept-

But I have been creating engineering vehicles in Rifts -created a independent engineer company using mercenary rules with the vehicles built by Titan industries based off some of Jon Popes designs.
Cutting roads through the wilderness with this thing:
http://www.coroflot.com/jonpope/210-Ton-Dozer
Give it's blade a vibro capacity and you have no problems.

I don't have a favorite right out of the books.
I have had to alter too many of the wheeled and tracked vehicles so they are capable of actually going off road, I guess most of the artists think that all of rifts earth is as flat as the Bonneville salt flats.
For example the MKVII Slayer apc and the skysweeper tank both have an Airdam on the front for chryst sakes, the MKv is off road capable as a city bus
That thing in the NG preview on pg. 24 what ever it is it doesn't matter, it's never leaving the paved road, ever. I'll have to redo the front end and raise it a couple feet to really be worth anything.
It's also thing I have after being seriously injured by an IED against such badly designed vehicles in such settings and they are also far more vulnerable to IED/mine damage and would get the crap blown out of them, the losses from IEDs/mines would be incredible.
At least the Road Hammer and the Rumble Wagon look like they could handle off road for more than 10 feet before getting stuck.
I get the art isn't done to vehicle specifications but couldn't the artists at least draw the vehicles so they look like they could handle off road travel instead of looking like contestants in Lowrider car shows.
Dulce bellum inexpertis.

I always thought that with that forward hatch and rear ramp, that the Mark V could be linked together in a 'land train' with passage possible between the linked cars via those hatches, but I guess not. The 'forward hatch' just seems an anomaly of the design(and a possible weakness to the integrity of the forward galcis armor).

Did you mean to type genre? At first I thought you were meaning generation, but then I sounded it out and I think that this is what you meant.
Under the Pain of Death
I would Stand Alone
Against an Army of Darkness
And Horrors Unknown

LOL... if they had done something like the 40K Land-Raider, it might have worked.
Ah well *shrug*

Another fave vehicle? Heh; the Dessert-Fox hoverbike. I dunno why, but it speaks to me. :D

Minimalist vehicle, with that big jet engine between your legs....Yeah, short of riding a cannonball, it doesn't get much more daring. :bandit:

Ok. It's not Palladium, but looks like something they would do.

Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force Concept

Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force Concept
Inspired by futuristic vision of law enforcement circa the year 2025, the Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force concept looms over the crowd here at the LA Auto Show with a, enormous footprint and imposing presence. In the flesh, this larger-than-life design exercise suggests the triple-pointed star isn't afraid of embracing bold, fearsome forms. Pie-in-the-sky tech features—such as a "hydro-tech converter" that feeds water from roof-mounted tanks to a fuel cell powerplant—suggest that out-of-the-box engineering ideas are still alive and kicking at Mercedes-Benz.

I like to hover ambulance from Triax/NGR - slightly modify it to suit my particular needs. For example we retrofitted the "hospital" part to be more of a cyber doc shop (we were all full conversion borgs so any squsihies who got hurt were out of luck). Same vehicle but added a scientific laboratory to it, one time a mechanic/TW's wet dream work shop.

I also like the Road Boss (I believe that's the name) the motorcycle with the shoulder mounted gun, the tarantula jump bike, robotic horse can be useful. A disguised Mark 5 APC.

The Rolling Thunder is an old fave.Personally there's always been something about the Road Boss bike from J U that I love, and for group transport, I've always loved the IWO-JIMA MIFV from Underseas. Only requires 3 to operate can transport up to 10 troops, has decent speed and weapons. A little light on MDC but that could be modified after-market and it's land/water capable. Sounds like $$$ to me.

Only one?

I'd say the original SAMAS.

If I get a top 3, I'd go SAMAS, USA G10, Spider-Skull Walker in no particular order.

Flying square-rigged sailing ship is still significantly cooler.

Steampunk SAMAS finally built!
