I may debate canon and RAW, but the games I run are highly house ruled. So I am not debating for how I play but about how the system works as written.

Life gets very short.

There's a reason...and a very good one...that I have certain people in this forum blocked both here and on Facebook.
I can see an illustration of that nearly every time I come here.

Not 'short'. 'Personal Altitude Challenged'.

And if... somone whipped out a mini gun. We run and hide. lol.
Now.. some guys won't... and you can say nice things at their funeral. "He was a brave soul.... if stupid.. he didn't take cover when the guy whipped out the mini gun on us that day.. but his blood-fountaining corpse did give us a chance to sneak around and clonk the machine gunner on the head with a rock. Rest in Pieces.... Swiss Cheese Man.....

Re: No Gnomes?
Umm gnome one has was ever to say child on the board? Kinder is german for child. Now if you replace the I with a E you get a highly feared race. That makes people want to kill it, and may lead to the great gmomageding that even rifts can not servive. (I think even greater demons fear a world of kender.)

I know, bad WoW memories for some, but I just love the idea of rolling into town in a massive TW'd out Giant Robot vehicle and the door opens and a 2 foot gnome hops out. LOL!!!!
Better yet...disguise his control station UNDER a regularly-sized(but nonfunctional) cockpit setup. Anybody who tries to hijack the 'bot while the gnome-owner's inside finds out the hard way that they ain't going anywhere...
I'm actually using this idea. Already cleared by the GM because he had my current character (A Grack) kidnapped to be tortured by Pestilence (The Horseman Demon). I realized immediately that I needed that "Backup" Character. So, yeah. Story goes he rifted from Paladium to Rifts earth into Russia when he was young, like 20 or 30, and spent all too long bounced around in the war torn Russian landscape being abused by warlords and picking up what he could to survive until Romanov territory proved a much less hostile land that he was able to grow as a TW. Anyway, he's Bald with a beard and wears a fur collared calf length coat. StereoTypical Russian style.
Anyway, I'm having the upper cockpit be on a switch so I can set it to function if I (as a TW) switch it to large mode. That way I can let someone else drive it if I want.
Another good reason to check the glove compartment. CAREFULLY.
"Check the glove compartment. May the owner of this thing left maps or money."
"Oka-"

Well, they are easier to conceal and no shop owner in their right mind would have them working behind the counter(UNDER it, maybe, but not behind it).

Re: No Gnomes?
This mention of gnome servants working under merchants' counters just sent my imagination in a wholly wrong direction...
I always figured these species were superior beings. They eat so much less food, take up so much less space, yet have pretty impressive comparative strength and speed considering the size differential. Not to mention equal intelligence and ability to contribute magically.

Re: No Gnomes?
Then there's the Atlantis(Splugorth-approved) merchant selling gnomes out of vending machines as 'minions on demand'. Just put in the coins, make a selection, and out pops your fresh plastic-wrapped gnome slave. Of course, early franchises of the machines had problems, as some of the owner/operators forgot you have to regularly FEED the gnomes in the machine, otherwise they go bad(as in stale, dried up, mummified*, as opposed to evil....though some just went insane).
*Not that this stopped some of the affected machines in making a profit, as some monsters LIKE dried gnome jerky, and necromancers appreciated being able to assemble small armies of zombie-gnomes on a budget.
