Yeah, totally did that. Embrace your Asia nerd. I also play Legend of the Five Rings.
I used the samurai class from Rifts: Japan but tooled around to make it more in-line with the power level of the setting. I even got to play it a few times!

With having HtH MA, I just used the paladin and made him more Asian in armor and personality.

Pretty well, honestly. I've been role playing samurai for quite a while. I also tend toward an emphasis on Courtesy and Compassion when I do. The issue I have is when people just assume I'm playing the character to be "good" and also cut down peasants because they dared to make eye contact. In palladium terms, the character tends to be Principled or Scrupulous. Also, when i try, I'm pretty creative with back story. Other players who are the same way really appreciate it.

Re: How many of you also decided to make samurai in PF?
Utilizing some of the Asian Samurai/Ninja/Ronin OCC's has been suggested on how to intermix them in a Rifter actually (honestly cant remember which one). I was skeptical at first but its surprising how well it can actually blend together and doesn't feel over powered even with some of the coolness that OCC brings in. So simply put my brother is rocking an Elven Samurai and im honestly quite shocked how well it works in the setting.

I think N&SS has rules in the back for making martial artists in Fantasy. I followed those and used Zanji to make a wolfen samurai for a one-shot campaign.
Please forgive my lack of details...this was 20 years ago. All I remember is that he died with an arrow in his eye.

I don't care about canon answers. I'm interested in good, well-reasoned answers and, perhaps, a short discussion of how that answer is supported or contradicted by canon.
If I don't provide a book and page number, then don't assume that I'm describing canon. I'll tell you if I'm describing canon.

Yeah N&SS has rules for converting... To 1st ed fantasy.u
Those rules do not work that well with 2nd ed.

I played a Zanji Samurai in 1st Ed. Due to lack of skills he couldn't function on his own but the boy could fight.
Using the Rifts Japan Samurai was way more balanced. Still a very good fighter and more rounded as a character and still dependent on a group to function.
I was raised to beleive if you can't say something nice about a person, say nothing at all. This has led to living a very quiet life.

Theres is also the Palladium Orient Rifter 27 article by Greg that details a PFRPG specific Samurai. May be useful.

The samurai is a warrior from cultures based on the medieval Japanese civilization. He lives by a very strict code of honor and behavior, a code demanding: absolute obedience to his lord; readiness to die for honor or for his lord at any time; eagerness to avenge any dishonor to his lord, his family, or himself; willingness to repay all debts honorably; and unwillingness to demonstrate the most dishonorable trait of cowardice

The entire experiment may ultimately not work. But as Tiger Woods tears into the springbok, his mouth crimson with blood, he looks to have all the makings of a natural-born killer.
