I have finally gotten rid of the monster.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"
"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."
"As you will it, your Grace."

It will be back, trust me. It just lurks, waiting to strike, like an internet troll.

That is the reason I have use troll-trap which neutralizes those pesky trolls. And there is no stink or mess.

Re: Random Interstellar Empires/Star Kingdoms
I am making a new kingdom to add by next week, however some highlights include:
+A Principled Alien Intelligence and an advanced medical Artificial Intelligence falling in love.
+ A boatload of Dominator tech.
+ The exports include doctors, advanced gravity tech and biotech.
+An incident that makes them unofficial enemies of humans and Oni.
+ Would would win in a fight, a Dominator or an Alien Intelligence?

Hmmm...IF the Dominator had the opportunity to slam relativistic missiles into the AI from long range...but then again, the AI could teleport offplanet...maybe...Likewise for simply swamping the AI under robots or long range weapons fire.
Hand to Hand/Tentacle without hordes of dominator robots to even the odds? I'd favor the AI for magic(Domnators take double damage from magic), though psionics are a harder weapon weapon to use against the Dominators.

Number of planets? Racial composition? Racial/Species tolerance? Major economies? Political Stability?
And Gaby, are you using a text-phone rather than a PC/keyboard to post?

Re: Random Interstellar Empires/Star Kingdoms
a bit of a thread resurrection.. Minor Stellar Empires page up in my phaseworld annex.
the decision to make the page was spur of the moment, so i don't have any images lined up for it yet, but i will be looking for some interesting ones in my collection. ( i just wish i hadn't lost my huge archive when my old external drive broke)

Well, thank you!
As for illustrations?
That's quite all right. Since I came up with all of them, I probably should(and can) come up with illustrations for all of the specific kingdoms(and maybe will at some point) if not for that all-consumer of men, TIME.

Re: Random Interstellar Empires/Star Kingdoms
well, i've got images from my collection up for a good many of them now. in this case it's mainly to keep it from being just a wall of text. if you make art for each, just send me a copy and i'll swap them out.
i must say finding an image for the Saphian's was the toughest.. i decided to interpret "handsome/beautiful mer-lycanthropic human(oid)s" as meaning that they look human (roughly), but can shapeshift their lower bodies to become a mer-person. i had that picture sitting on my hard drive because, well, i thought it was sexy. the look seemed to fit the idea of a sexy race of part time merpeople, so i used it.

Well, I do like your selections, and many of them work even better than anything I could have come up with. Others, I have a set idea of what a species looks like, so I'm come up with something....even to just complent your selections, rather than supplant them.
And the Shemarrian Star Nation..well, the Shemarrian Civil War universe has gone enough pages that I should come up with a faux front piece or something, for 'Shemarrians Unleashed'...Or heck, I already have some Shemarrian starships that might do nicely.

A lone armored figure, in an advanced looking cockpit, contacts Wildstorm Industries via a data burst and arranges for a survey/exploration team.
"Now let's see if those humans can live up to their own hype," a grumpy modulated voice emanates from the armored figure. "I can't afford to not find out what happened to my people. I need to find my way home."

Just found this set of tables and I like them a lot. I might make use of them to generate things for my material.

Most of what I do, I do for the thrill of creation. If it inspires others, that's the happiness of sharing. If my material finds use, then that's bonus.

as i said, i've got an extensive collection of images that caused me to go "oh cool" and save them. of course, my current collection of stuff is a pale shadow of the 60+ gigabytes i used to have..
as i said before, i'm willing to swap out any image there if you produce one closer to your vision. might help me out, this about wiped out my collection of phase worldish aliens.. (most of the rest i have are either too weird to use here, or for most of them, earmarked for my "ender's cluster" project which sadly is on hiatus.)
btw, i was tempted to use a Loroi from Outsider for the Valar-Ryzellian, but i didn't want to skirt the conversion issue that closely. so instead i went looking for a non-affiliated image on deviantart. you'll notice that the images i've used in the section so far are either fairly generic stuff with no connection to other licenses, or art from comparatively obscure sources. in the entire annex, the only art from recognizable licenses is used purely in the general decorative role. not as illustration for specific things.

Heh! a bit of a kludge job that one (pic-wise). Composite of 3 image elements, 4 or 5 passes with the 'lighting' tool and well... yeah.
Oh and B.T.W.; Cydi Shondrali (Re; Hope Brightlance) is almost 5th. level now.

first, direct linking to the pic on my site doesn't usually work. (worked for me, but i'm the creator of the site.. not sure about others..)
the pic in question was cribbed from here: http://www.tor.com/stories/2010/02/vilcabamba

and it looks like they're using the Mazone as the baddies.. but working in the Illumidas stuff from the otherwise separate continuity of Arcadia my Youth...
this ought to be even better than the Yamato film!
hmm.. i wonder if they'll do a Galaxy Express film after this one? they are part of the same extended universe..

Sadly; most of my mental efforts are trying to get my campaign players to get caught up plot-wise so I can bring in the SSN...and most of the rest of the stuff I'm working with is un postable.
You can thank [Name removed to protect the guilty troll] for that.

Yeah. Sometimes I lose track of some of the stuff I've posted in the past. And sometimes even I find some gems I'd forgotten I'd written long ago. Hate to lose track of entire KINGDOMS that way.

Re: Random Interstellar Empires/Star Kingdoms
Solex Federation(Anvil Galaxy)
“Pretty little thing, don’t you agree? I bought her from a Solex Federation battleship captain when they stopped by here not long ago. She’s a former Army officer, of a patrician Solaran family. The good captain claims he’ll have more, many more, to sell me in a few months when they finally re-organize the government. Would you like to place an advance order?”
To the outside universe, the Solex Federation represents itself as a well-to-do, well-organized, well-protected independent human star kingdom with a strong, well-equipped military and the means to enforce their borders. Nominally affiliated with the CCW, the Solex Federation remains more aloof than anything else, aside from the occasional technology exchange, purchase of surplus equipment, and trade (re)negotiation. Their volume of trade is large, but not otherwise exceptional or notable, most domestic production serving domestic markets. In the past, the Solex Federation has been seen as a good investment for trade, despite the occasional ‘hiccup’ due to domestic troubles or local politics. The Solex Federation’s galactic sector has also been quite quiet for many centuries, so it draws little attention.
The truth, however, is that the Solex Federation is teetering on the edge of all-out civil war. The Federation has long been divided by contentions that the central world of Solara has held its colonies on a choking tight leash, extorting and taxing them to support the homeworld corporations, and passing increasingly discriminatory legislation meant to keep the colonies enslaved. In response, the Solaran government has pointed out numerous cases of unchecked industrial development, failure to pay debts, harboring of pirates and other criminals, and human rights abuses in colonial exploitation of their own populations. The military in particular has been seen as a cesspool of corruption and favoritism, with Solaran officers given preference over colonial recruits, and, more recently, the tool of oppressive measures against dissident colonies. Growing tension between the central government and the increasingly rebellious colonies has led to a disturbing increase in incidents between the two, with barely-suppressed reports of massacres, mutinies, murder, enslavement, and open piracy by official agencies reaching the outside universe. Within the Solex Federation Space Navy it’s no small secret that the Solarans and the colonials more often than not are fighting EACH OTHER, and even under the best of circumstances, mixed crews have a fairly frosty attitude towards each other. Those of both sides willing and working to preserve unity are increasingly few and far between, and any espirit de corps that once held the Navy together has long since disappeared.
Most of those in the know figure the Solex Federation is only months away from openly dissolving into civil war. When that happens, even the remaining moderate politicians, military, and colonies will be forced to pick a side, as the Federation breaks down into a welter of factions, all out to grab what they can. The lack of unity in the military makes their units a very dangerous factor in any upcoming civil war.
The collapse of order in the large Solex Federation may draw the attention of other powers in the Three Galaxies, seeking to take advantage of the chaos, and adding fuel to the fire, what with twenty substantially-inhabited planets involved. This may lead to the civil war spilling out of the Federation’s declared borders and into neighboring systems. The fact that the Federation is rather well-armed only increases the danger. Again, the large size of the Federation makes any realistic peacekeeping interventions by outside powers a difficult, if not impossible, undertaking, provided the factions would tolerate outside involvement in seeking peaceful resolutions to the Federation’s many problems(currently, the Federation isn’t even allowing outside mediators, refering to the situation as an ‘internal matter’).
A. Size:
Extensive----20 solar systems, centered on the ‘homeworld’ , an Earth-like world named Solara. Notable other planets in the Federation include New Ginard, Giaya, Minataria III, Sobra, Kyokoa, and Chiswell.
B. History:
Splinter of the Human Alliance; possibly First Diaspora.
C. Level of Technological Sophistication
Advanced Space Age---The Solex Federation may be a generation or two behind the CCW in ship design(their vessels tend to be 30-50% larger than comparable CCW vessels, and not as well-equiped), but they are on a par with most interstellar nations. The most advanced technology is in the hands of the government and military.
D. General Attitude/Culture
-Multi-Factional; the central Solaran government is a creaking, corrupt bureaucracy influenced by corporate-political special interests, military hard-liners, and welfare-state populists. The colonies are a mix of independence-minded socio-religious extremists, corporate splinters, and outright opportunists wanting to grab what they can in any sort of organizational dissolution. There are a few moderate elements/groups, but increasingly, rampant lawlessness is forcing a polarization of factions.
E. Racial Composition
-Human. There are few, if any, non-humans in the Solex Federation, and those would be more recent immigrants.
F. Government
-Militocracy----Though nominally a democratic federation, the truth is that the true power has gone to a handful of military-industrial complex powerblocs on Solara.
As mentioned before, the colonies are a mix of organizations, but as tensions increase and jingoism takes hold, the colonies are increasingly falling under the influence of strong-man-style control under the guise of ‘crisis governance’ or ‘martial law’.
G. Administrative Control
---Ordinarily could be considered to be Tight, but recent turmoil has led to central government measures being arguably Draconian in places and nonexistent in others. The central government is particularly harsh on any hint of dissidence, while the colonials are suspicious of anybody displaying conspicuously close ties to the Solaran government.
H. External Trade
-Raw Materials---The Solex Federation has traded primarily in raw materials and luxury goods unique to the Solex worlds.
In recent months, however, trade has slackened off. Many of the colonies claim the central government has been stripping them to meet export trade quotas, or fixing the prices to rob them of their just due. Others in the luxury goods trade have claimed that government policies have trapped them into monoculture agriculture or have otherwise crippled the diversity of their local economies and markets. The government counters the colonials are hording goods, with an eye towards price-gouging. Piracy is also on the rise in the sector, with reports of (presumably rogue) units of both the Central Fleets and the Colonial Guard acting like pirates or protection racketeers.
H1. Commodities
Exports: In the past, the Solex Federation traded in minerals, lumber, and luxury goods such as Miterrian Tea, Cila Wood, Gaiyan Sea-Gel, and Sobrian Pepper. More recently, those goods are traded in smaller quantities, and there’s an underground trade in domestic goods(apparently stolen or confiscated from colonial/Solaran families) and in slaves(it’s rumored that BOTH factions in the military have been using black-ops brainwashing techniques to mindwipe prisoners and dissidents and remake them into slaves).
Imports: In better times, the Solex Federation traded in consumer technologies, but in more recent times both the Solaran central government and the colonies have been trading under the table for weapons and strategic materials, hoarding and stockpiling them against future troubles.
I. Status
Troubled/Imperiled---Internal tensions are mounting between the central Solaran administration and the colonies, and many inside the Federation are convinced that it’s only a matter of WHEN, not IF, civil war breaks out. Already lawlessness has broken out in various institutions and several colonies have already broken away in all but name. If and when civil war does break out, travel through the sector may well become imperiled.

Thanks.
I thought it allowed for metaplayers to describe their private star empires, and for variety on a smaller scale beyond the requisite 'Federation', 'Evil Empire', 'USSR/USA/UK analogues' of space opera.
I hope to, as time allows, to go back over my Alien Races and other posts and describe the kingdoms I've described/touched upon/hinted at there, but I also encourage others to use the above formating to describe and post their own ideas and flights of fantasy.

I was wondering. Have you ever considered creating an addition for the star navy size for this extensive chart of yours? You know like another sub chart? Just a thought. I am working on one, but it will probably not be an exhaustive as yours would be.

Not really...I wanted to leave it deliberately nebulous and up to anybody who was fleshing out their kingdoms in detail. I mean, such a chart is a misleading indicator of power...an Early Space Age star nation with fifty-plus planets might have a space navy of HUNDREDS of ships...that are so much cardboard against the handful of superships fielded by an Ancient species of Extremely High Tech, that's retired to a single world...or maybe that big fleet is just OWNED by the sheer mental powers of the apparently agrarian locals.
And how do you count a mercantile species with a MASSIVE commercial fleet, each and every one of which could be converted, in wartime, to an armed merchant cruiser, or used as a relativistic missile?
Check the 'Kzinti Wars'(Larry Niven) for a classic example of hidden military might that wouldn't register, until afterwards, on any generalized assessment of military power.
