Psionics: Did I miss something?

Unread post by RiftJunkie »

Major Psionics - RMB had a Skill penalty due to learning how to use that many psionics. RUE now seems to have no penalty for having that many psionics. Did I get that right?

If there was a change in heart for psionic characters in being able to still learn everything that thier OCC has and still develop thier psionics properly, why have such a penalty for Mind Melters?

I've read the books, I'm just looking for opinions.
My apologies up front if my posts come across as argumentative or crass. It is not a personal attack on anyone, just my blunt style. I bear no ill will towards anybody that plays Palladium Games (there’s not enough of us to hold a grudge).

Yep, from RMB to RUE the text has changed from "I worked on developing my psi powers so my studies suffered" text, to "I 'magicly' just have these powers so I was able to study" text for the 'Step Four' psi determination roll (major/minor).
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

I'm sorry, I don't see those quotes in either of the books. Could you cite your page numbers please?

That is because the quotes are being used to set apart "the words used to inform the basic concept used to form the text" that I used to illustrate the difference between the text in the two books..

That's because those aren't quotes of material from the books simply his opinion on how he interprets how having psi-powers changed between RMB and RUE. The first basically considers psi-powers as something you had to learn to have (but only if you had major psionics rather than minor) the second reflects the belief that because you aren't required to train for them and they spontaneously manifest that you're somehow having them appear 'magically' or otherwise as if they aren't actually deserved because you didn't sacrifice something to have them.
Fair warning: I consider being called a munchkin a highly offensive slur and do report people when they err in doing so.

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

Because presumably super psionics are harder than the minor psionics that major psychics get maybe?

To avoid confusion I think we should call non-super psionics 'lesser' psionics.

Why? There is no confusion since each psi power, both super and HSP, have their own unique name. There is more confusion between the psi TK power and the magic TK spell, then between any psi powers.

So so long as you know the name there is no confusion about what type of power is being talked about. And if you are confused you can always 'get a main book out and look them up'.
