Huh. This is the first I've heard about that submission (ICS) being published. I was beginning to wonder if it had been lost in the mail or if I'd forgotten to submit it.

kaid wrote:One thing I noticed and question is the new OCC the Dread knights starting spells are simply listed as learns spells from purchase or scroll. No starting spells are listed nor gained per level other than by purchase. I am not sure if this means they just gain spells like a necromancer or if something slipped and did not get put into the final product.

Yeah I was looking at the Dread Knight O.C.C. and getting very excited about the chance to finally play a badass 'dark' magic warrior only to find out that they are effectively incomplete... we need an Errata, or at the least the author to chime in and tell us what is or isn't supposed to be.

After the number of times I've read and re-read that I can't believe I missed its initial spell knowledge. Well, here is the Dread Knight O.C.C.'s initial spell knowledge:

5. Initial Spell Knowledge: Due to their combat focus the Dread Knight is a little more restricted in their spell knowledge than traditional Necromancers. Starts with the following: Recognize the Undead, Surrogate Flesh, Death Siphon, Necro Armor, Entropy, Death Mask, Death Bolt, Explosive Entropy, and Reaper’s Blade.

I've sent this to PB staff as well so they can issue an errata if needed, but I know with the Rifter once they're printed that's pretty much it.

well in theory if they are like necros they gain spells by buying them or trading for them necros don't gain spells per level automatically.

well that takes them off the list of viable classes for the GM's I have access to then.

Yup as much as I like necromancers depending on GM they are not super viable. They do get a pretty healthy starting amount of spells from any level but anything after the initial batch is stuff they have to learn by spending cash or finding somebody to train you. At least they can learn normal spell casting stuff as well just less efficiently.

Most necros though even with the starting spells are pretty well setup you can get their icky armor of iathan variant/death bolt/create zombie/create mummy and have a couple normal necro spells and a couple bone magic spells and I think 6 spells off their necro normal invocation list so they can get by with the initial spell selection reasonably well.

Well there's two monsters: The Soul Merchant and the Soul Hound.

The Soul Merchant is a demon that buys and sells souls as sources of power.

The Soul Hound is a demonic dog like creature that serves the Soul Merchant.

There's also a supernatural human who is the main villain of the adventure, but she's not a monster per se.

I did static stats so that the soul merchant was ready to use right out of the book without having to roll or figure anything out. It wouldn't be hard to figure out a system to roll die on if you just take the stats given as averages.
