A question on Fairies

Unread post by Dakchronos »

Are Fairies able to learn anything outside of their RCC, such as an OCC and Hand to Hand? Or are they stuck with what they get? And any creative ideas pertaining to fairy folk?

My favorite is the ice sprite. Unfortunately canon says what you got is what you get but....... by using Heroes Unlimited. Bringing them in under the Magic power category you can roll for an education.

Is that just for skills, or does that apply to a power category with full range of abilities? I.E. a silverbell that,s mystically bestowed?

Just the skills unfortunately but. A silver bell military specialist. A tiny pixie skilled in setting explosives. Woot woot.

Interesting on the the military specialist. In other games, fairies are generally just as frightening as dragons even on their own, but in Rifts, They're a collection of can-trips. I feel they were underdone based on the lore and literature on them. One would think they would have a natural talent at enchanting. A Palladium example would be the NPC Haven from Century Station. On other myth, there's Excalibur. :|

Frost Sprites are just cool. I rolled one up with a high school education. Physical program and criminal program. Kept the Supernatural Strength and blammo. A two foot tall wrecking machine that shoots frost bolts.

I Like Green Wood faeries. Yank off thier wings, then sew on a set of Bat wings and a snake tail and animate them as a Monster Zombie.

Now my idea doesn't give new powers or abilities. It only provides a way to get a random rolled education. Which in most cases is better than what the rcc offers.
But......... if you would like MUNCHKIN Faeries..... *cough* totally eligible for the Demi-God template in the pantheons book *cough*

You didn't hear that from me. Lol ;)

Well if the demigod was a template and not a fullblown racial class that might work. But as written you are either a demigod (and use what is offered there and only that) or you are something else and have the abilities of the other race.
Now it can be house ruled into a template, but RAW its not.

I may be using the wrong wording but for example.
My Demigod frost sprite. Um Rack Frost.
Improved attributes...blah blah blah. Skills still bite. Blah blah. Ok for my Pantheon power I choose to be a Burster. Now we're havin fun. Ice abilities plus fire abilities plus a cool backstory.

That's just it though. That's a house rule. The rules as written let you either take the farie or the demigod. They don't stack.

There is no mechanism for the fae folk, as presented in PF:M&A and RCB1/RCB1r to acquire a OCC or a PCC other then the RCC that come with within canon.

According to a canon Q&A in one of the rifters player characters, even those with classes and with the GM's blessing, can use the HU furthering education system and acquire individual skills.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.

Well as written it doesn't consider anything but human demigods, even though demi-gods and godlings of other races certainly exist and couldn't possibly be restricted to having only those abilities humans have (which is none in comparison).
Fair warning: I consider being called a munchkin a highly offensive slur and do report people when they err in doing so.

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

Ok back to the original post.
Skills for faerie folk.
Heroes Unlimited.
Considered a Magic power category.
Roll or pick a standard education.
Not much help in Rifts yet but filling those skill slots wisely would help.

Why are they a Magic Power Cat? Wouldn't they be an Alien?

That could leave the option for stacking.
Well my pixies an Alien, why cant I be a mutant or psionic. By assigning a power catergory it soundly eliminates a potential argument.
In my haste I realized the Mega Hero is now a viable option but its late and I cant think of closibg every loophole.

Or.....you could just use the simpler and say "Faries are faries. Use the write up provided"
Presto problem solved AND it eliminates stuff like robot pilot faries.
*shrugs*

They are already in the immortals power cat. Or some of them are.

Except in Rifts we DO have robot pilot faeries, um, like the faerie bot! and that's part of the beauty (and annoyance of) Rifts.

As to an earlier post, we can't really say whether or not Faeries are aliens or indigenous to earth, as this is a fantasy set-up in the first place.

As per canon rules, no faeries do not gain any other OCC, nor any other OCC skills.

That being said, the odd one gaining skills as per an Immortal in PU2, or especially as per the additional skills as mentioned in HU2 (mentioned previously) doesn't seem too far fetched, especially for a PC.

Has any one ever GMed for a party of fairies? Demigod aside, they have the right idea on how fairies are at their best as a group, taking advantage of fairy rings.

Ok my two cents they start with what they start with but PB has set a system to teach skills it is just hidden threw out several games and books.

So while they can not start with some of the wacky skills without doing conversation mambo jumbo they can still learn. See Rouge scholar as a in rifts base, HU also has another approach to it.

So while you skills may be limited at start by OCC you can go to school (of sorts) to learn no skills.

Legal yes, Cheesy *shrug* I do not think so but that can be debated. But it will take in game time.
The Clones are coming you shall all be replaced, but who is to say you have not been replaced already.

Master of Type-O and the obvios.

Soon my army oc clones and winged-monkies will rule the world but first, must .......

I may debate canon and RAW, but the games I run are highly house ruled. So I am not debating for how I play but about how the system works as written.

Is that a serious question or are you joking? does fit the race though. The only other alternative I've seen was the Immortal PCC in PU2. I like it, but I have a preference of viewing a fairy being closer to 6 inches in height. Then again, when I see HU2, I'm more likely to play with super powers rather than magic. I find magic to be grossly under-powered compared to the rest of it.

Except of course the official PF rules which allow RCCs to freeze advancement and begin in a new OCC

Resources - The Cutting Room Floor:
*things that went out of print, were forgotten or left out for other reasons
*general errata and excluded material from various books.

Supplemental Material - Palladium Fantasy® 2nd Edition - Dual O.C.C.s:

Characters that wish to learn a new O.C.C. must first advance at least one level in their current O.C.C./R.C.C. At second level (or wherever desired), they may opt for training in the new O.C.C. as SOON as they reach that new level (it cannot be done after they have advanced in their new experience level).

When the character begins their new training, they are zero-level in the new O.C.C. The character must earn experience points equal to the new O.C.C.'s second level (if Men of arms or adventurers) or third level (if magical or psychic). When that amount of experience points is acquired, the character has passed their apprenticeship and is now at first level in his new O.C.C.

Once characters change over to their new O.C.C., they retain their old skills (but frozen at the levels they achieved before the change) but all new PPE, S.D.C., and other increases will be based upon their new O.C.C. ALL new experience points are awarded to the new O.C.C.

OCCs for all!

Serious, if Kevin didn't want me dreaming of the Fae's erotic pasttimes he should have avoided drawing them nude in the first edition of PRPG.
