i was wondering that too
You'll take my life but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand there's no turning back

Last I heard, no direct source, it's to be crowd sourced but the thing is not yet launched, I got a friend who waits to invest in that.

Kickstarter.
My understanding is that KS is part of their business model.
All products by Pinnacle are KS'd first.
But... nothing goes live until it is ready to ship to the printer.

just for clarity, savage worlds rifts is being done by the savage worlds team, not the rifts team. that doesn't mean there won't be delays (anything can be delayed), but it does mean that there's no inherent reason to expect the kinds of delays we often see with PB products.

Not to mention, they are re-hashing already printed material and back story. So the bulk of the work will be done in the conversion to the new game mechanics.

So, they write the product, use Kickstarter to get preorders/printing capital, so once the KS is completed, they can get PDFs to backers and start hardcopy printing?
That's a pretty good business model, actually.

Well its pretty much aimed from what I understand at a 2016 release so I would expect to see something more about this spring/summer aiming at a gen con release would be my guess.

Yup the real expensive part is the final production/shipping of the fist batches of a product so using a kick starter this way allows you to buffer that to smooth out the companies finances and its easy to back on kick starter because you know its basically already done and will start shipping pretty soon after the kick starter ends.
Honestly after looking over their rules after getting the main handbook for the game it looks like converting it for rifts would not be to hard to do.

Pinnacle has said 1st quarter 2016. They are fairly reliable about announcements of that nature.
So your trollish comment is unwarranted.

I'm actually curious, once this comes out, how will this affect the No Conversions rule? Will conversion from the Palladium system to Savage Worlds be allowed, or not?
Other than that, I'm really excited about this game and I can't wait to get ahold of it.

We will probably have to walk a fine line on conversions...
The lead writer on the Savage Rifts project has stated he has plans to expand beyond what he presents in the initial manuscript. (Which covers the basic classes and provides a "framework" for "creating" additional Savage Rifted classes).

Re: Any word on that rifts savage worlds game?
Probably will also depend how well they work with palladium and how that relationship grows. Plus side for a company doing something like this if they can make the conversion a smooth one there is an enormous amount of materials for new players to draw on. And for palladium it opens new avenues to market older books as well. I think it also is a bit of a matter how palladium was approached about doing this as the makers of the savage worlds stuff seem to be big fans of palladium and came at it respectfully.
I myself honestly think I like the normal rifts game style a bit better as I am more of a number cruncher type person but a lot like the newer style more fast paced less sim like game style and savage worlds seems like it would be really good at that. It also seems like it handles really large battles a lot more gracefully than the current palladium system. I could honestly see doing a hybrid campaign of normal rules for the more day to day encounters but using the savage world tools for really really big fights as it seems like it handles big brawls of hundreds of combatants pretty smoothly.

I like the SW quick combat, I usually try to keep my Rifts combat flowing quick as possible. I've been considering using Hybrid rules as well. Time will tell.

It is NOT a PB product.
It is a Pinnacle Entertainment Group (the guys who make Savage Worlds) product.
Pinnacle licensed the Rifts IP for conversion into their house system (Savage Worlds).
Pinnacle has a reliable track record (as does the lead designer).

Actually - I think Kagashi has a really good point.
- We were told that they should have some sort of working copy for people by December. It's December, and we don't have a copy other than what folks have playtested. Which is awesome and all, I don't have a copy in my hand.
- We don't know the relationship that Pinnacle and Palladium have.
- Do they need to get Kevin's approval?
- Does Kevin need to play test it?
- Does Kevin need to Edit it?
So before people get thrown under the bus for speaking out about how past experience with Palladium has been. It's probably a better idea to let it happen, then let it die into oblivion by ignoring it.

Even if it is first quarter 2016...
1) that is not December 2015
2) there is still nothing more official out there except 'I heard it from a friend Who Knows'

Okay.....
for those of us who are not experts on Pinnacle Entertainment Groups forums....
can some one show where/link this information? So that we can have more than just second hand trust us?
Like a link to where they have actually put in print their plans?
I'm not doubting this....but for those of us who's experiences here are pretty much confined to Palladium Books you can understand why we are a bit skeptical of "trust us, its working. Even though you have not seen any information here, no one has provided any links and all information has come second hand from a friend of friend."

Re: Any word on that rifts savage worlds game?
Here is a post concerning conversions from PEG's side of things.
They state sometime after the first of the year.
They state that they currently plan on doing it via Kickstarter.
Also, they utilize Kickstarter to great effect, and here is an example of their sci-fi setting, The Last Parsec, that they did last year. They even did a soundtrack for one of their goals. It would be cool if they could do the same thing for Rifts, too, as I would love to hear some Rifts inspired music. Edit: They already said no plans for minis, though, as you'll see in one of the links above. Oh well, can't have it all., I suppose.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. Official statements by PEG staff laying out official target dates and details.
Most helpful indeed.
I will be willing to back this kickstarter. As you said they have an excellent reputation in that field. I would be interested to see if any stretch goals were worth backing beyond the basics as well. But at the very least I would kick in enough for a base set or two.
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

Speculation based on past PEG KSs:
I would bet on some setting specific bennie chips, setting specific action deck (poker cards with a Rifts theme), setting specific Adventure deck (cards with perks and/or adventure seeds); and possibly some setting specific dice. (plus a few "unique" items may be possible).

It is not a good session until at least one player looks you in the eye and says "you sick twisted evil ****"

Yep, they are performing maintenance this weekend. Sorry, probably should have mentioned that was going to be happening, as I had seen the announcement.
EDIT: Here is the announcement on their news page:

Also, here is a quote straight from the source, the line developer, and I believe is the most recent comment on a release date. You can read the entire interview with Sean Patrick Fannon here.
Now keep in mind, with Pinnacle, that may very well mean that the PDF will be released in first quarter, at the end of the Kickstarter. The physical books, and rewards, would then be shipped several months later, after they have been printed. They usually provide a pre-order on their web store, which in the past has included the PDF for free when you pre-order. This is, of course, all speculation on my part, based on their recent handling of releases.

Sean Patrick Fannon wrote:As of now, we’re strongly committed to seeing Savage Rifts release in the First Quarter of 2016. That’s all I can and will say, because we are determined, first and foremost, that this is right from the very start, and we’ll take whatever time is necessary to do that. As you say, there are a lot of people excited about this, and we don’t want to disappoint.
