Evil Galactic Empire with Separatist Rebels, In-fighting Good Guy Federation, Spacegoing Mages, Cyberpunk Cyborgs, Second-class Imperial Paranoid Frogs, slavering greedy Splugorth slavers, all watched with amusement by galactic arms dealers, snooty filthy-rich Altess, dimension-phasing Prometheans, wandering cosmoknights, and ancient monsters lurking in the galactic darkness.

Central Alliance...they're gritty, violent, technocrats on the outskirts of the major powers.
They're pretty much the Scrapyard from Battle Angel Alita, or maybe even the solar system-wide Zenith Of Things from the same series, only with FTL technology.
