I'm wondering if this possibly came up in a Rifter errata or something, pg 174 "Release Energy" and pg 191 "Powers of Light" both do damage scaled to PPE (Guardians have a better ratio) with seemingly no upper limit (except of course the PPE a character could store) but range isn't listed in either case, making me think of Guardians / Ba'al able to nuke satellites in orbit from the ground and similar awesomeness.
The closest ability for comparison is probably Shadow Blast on pg 111 since it too does damage scaled to PPE (better ratio than Nightlords, less max than Guardians) although it has a cost cap. Would 500ft seem reasonable for Nightlords/Guardians or should it be more?
The "Dark Guardians" in Shadows of Light use the Shadow Blast talent so we should probably consider potential DG v G duels and how those could change with range differences.

Range is unlisted and so defaults to Line of Sight, I'd say. So yea, could be pretty far.

Aren't there some abilities whose range doesn't necessarily even require sight?

I'm not sure, just thinking of spells in general, even if you couldn't see someone (think a blind mage) couldn't you sort of target a general direction they're in? Maybe just for AE spells though, not sure about single-target.
