TW Question

Unread post by Whitewings »

The time needed to create the Techno-Wizard device, in hours, is equal to the P.P.£' Construction Cost, divided by 10, multiplied by the Device Level.

Device Construction Time: P.P.E. Construction Cost/10 x Device Level.

If the Techno-Wizard is adding to existing technology - vehicle, armor, weapon - the time needed to complete the work is equal to the P.P.E. Construction Cost multiplied by the Device Level (if the Techno-Wizard has the appropriate Mechanical skill(s) himself, the time needed is cut in half).

So what seems, going by the O.C.C. description, to be a techno-wizard's main stock in trade, the integration of magical and conventional technologies, is more time consuming that creating an object with no electrical, mechanical or electronic components at all. Am I catastrophically misunderstanding something or did a serious blunder slip past the editor, if any?

To write the equation with the correct math rules it would look like this: DCT= (P.P.E. Construction Cost/10) x Device Level.

If you are going to quote a book or someone could you put a quote box around the quote, please. That way people know you are quoting somebody or some book.

That the "concept" or "core idea" behind the TW OCC is the blending of Tech and magic is correct.
However.....in application, nearly all the TW stuff depicted in the books is only 'Magic items made out of bits and parts out of tech devices.'

It takes time to do anything. But enchanting a TW Magic Items takes a Fraction of the time than it takes a Alchemist to enchant a complete magic item. A few days, opposed to a few months.
EDIT: Yes, it takes longer to build the TW magic item into an existing mechinisum/vehicle because they still need to maintain the mechinum's functionality. So it takes more time to do it. So basically the char is spending more time rebuilding the vehicle (or whatever) than building the TW magic item.

Sidenote: Alchemists would consider tw magic items as incomplete, because they have no integral way to recharge themselves. In that aspect tw items and more like the 'magic items' a crystal mage (PF1 I@tEotW, Pages 88-104) makes than regular magic items.

May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.
Reading and writing (literacy) is how people on BBS interact.

building a new system into an existing device from scratch is going to be time intensive compared to just making magical bullcraps, makes sense to me. technowizards can make up whatever stupid "it's magic i ain't gotta explain jack" device on their own, but installing it into a SAMAS without screwing up some of the existing systems is probably a LOT harder.
