Fantasy Campaign Ideas.

Unread post by Shorty Lickens »

I got sick of the usual rifts nonsense a while back. Need to run some alternative campaigns with unusual PC's.

1: Fairy Folk need to repel or destroy an invader into their magic grove. I plan on using the small creatures from Conversion Books 1 and 3. Maybe Rifts England. The threat will probably be a supernatural monster or an evil wizard who makes use of monstrous minions. They may or may not start an epic quest to gain supernatural allies in a fantastic war of the ages. Or it could be relatively short and simple. A brief campaign to have fun with alternative RCC's and fantastic creatures. Almost every world book has introduced at least one new magical beast, so this could be fun.

2: D-Bees abused and hunted in Chi-Town. The players will experience racism and persecution in Chi-Town and/or CS territories. They can either fight to defend their current home ('burbs), or go on a quest for a new home (somewhere in the north American wilderness or other lands on Rifts earth). Potentially this can be an epic campaign going on for years and covering a LOT of new territory. Again, no humanoids. Nothing that could maybe slip by unnoticed in Chi-Town. They need to be very inhuman looking and subject to threats or capture. Thats where the story is.

3: Aliens from the Three Galaxies have somehow landed on Rifts Earth. Either they want to get back home, or try to make a new home here (likely if they are refugees from a terrible war, destroying their home planet or home star system). No humanoids. An alternative campaign would be alien headhunters tracking the refugees, or debtors, or thieves. Maybe Naruni employees? Maybe they only want the items and arent too interested in the people. No humans. Be creative, use one of the other 500 races found across all the 3 Galaxies books.

4: Intelligent robots who decide they want to leave their current master. ARCHIE 3 is a good choice, but it could also be a regular mad scientist. Or even a sane master but the robots think they will do better on their own. Alternative idea would be mutants or experiments, possibly captured aliens/D-bees/intelligent monsters. Also a good idea to dig in Conversion Books 1 and 3. Again, game master has to decide if they need to fight their way out of captivity, or just walk way. In any case, its possible the surface of Rifts Earth is foreign and mysterious to them, so they will have a lot of learning and adapting to do. Again this could be a short quick campaign when the PC's find or make a new home, or an epic length saga that goes on for years as they encounter new friends and foes, and possibly folks who wanna join their group (alien, fantastic creature, or intelligent robot). I do not like elves and dwarves in Rifts Earth, but am open to almost anything else, including the evil stuff from Dark Conversions. But the main factor here is they start off enslaved or indentured and decide they had enough and want to escape.

5: DRAGONS! the player group is all or mostly dragon-kin. Possibly large fantastic creatures. They are young and for whatever reasons leave home to find fame and fortune. Or maybe just adventure and exploration. Perhaps they are forced to leave home in order to accomplish a specific goal, ala Lord Of The Rings. The problem with these campaigns is the power level scales and can be easily unbalanced. Difficult to run, I've never actually done it correctly. Godlings could also be a possibility, but I'd want animals or monsters. Again, no humanoids. No super duper beings or alien intelligences.

6 A. A god or goddess has chosen one of the party as his/her/Its Champion and has given them special powers. The deity in question is a rather obscure and minor godhead, though, and the endowed powers aren't all that hot(or at least not immediately so great; could be very subtle, like probability manipulation or control of fermentation). In return for this power comes great responsibility, including running special errands for the deity. Even if the chosen one refuses, they're stuck with the job.
And a deity's champion, even a minor one, is going to attract attention, especially from rival deities and their champions, looking to score points and gain additional power. This could wind up with a god-war over the tides of probability or the provision of cheese('Blessed are the Cheesemakers!') in which the Champion is at ground zero, and has pulled the other PCs in. Did the fine print cover hospital stays? And what's the retirement plan in this #^#@ gig?

7:
A shifter or party of shifters wants pacts with demons or powerful aliens in exchange for magic abilities or great knowledge or whatever.
Either deliberately or accidentally, the players take on the form of rare or exotic monsters. All from the 3 conversion books.
The team will have to decide if they like being monsters or not, and whether to change back. Or continue exploring rifts earth or alternate dimensions. Perhaps the monstrous forms give them immunity to certain dangerous realms, making them safe for travel.

Oh wow I just saw another one I forgot about.
In the Wormwood dimension book theres a bunch of monstrous RCC's and evil OCC's. That could be a lot of fun too, either play a Wormwood campaign exclusively as weird D-bees, or bring them to rifts earth for whatever reason.

The PCs all start as evil minions of one of the Infernal Minion War factions. They decide that want out, for whatever reason(probably because they realize their life expectancy as minions is not promising) and they now have to fight their way to safety, wherever that may be. Along the way they have to fight the other faction(s), their own faction who is trying to stop them, and the Forces of the Light who don't believe that this bunch of minions if up to any good, and are shooting first to be on the safe side.*

*And depending on what the PCs' endgame is, the Light may be right. Are the PCs planning on finding someplace to establish their own Evil/Selfish kingdoms or are they going to turn to the Light and try being Good(or at least Selfish with honorable intentions)?
