Synchro Cannons

Unread post by slade the sniper »

Was there ever a hard damage number attached to a synchro cannon, or did it just always have the "destroys everything" damage?

The Heavy Particle Beam was also a "destroys everything" weapons, but then eventuall got a 2d6x1 million MDC damage number. Are synchro cannons similiar, or would they be like 1/10th that or something?

In the 1E Books (Bk5/Sentinels Main) and even 2E Books, no. Not unless you link the Shadow Alpha and Vindicator (for 1E only) Destabilizer Gunpods to the Syncro-Cannon (as they are Mospeada, the OSM version of RT-NG saga).

I'd also remind you that the HPB/Reflex Cannon has that damage vs a planet in actuality, so is supposed to be applied in very specific circumstances.

the only reflex/syncro cannon I remember a damage code for was when a reflex cannon shot a planet or equivalent then it did 1d4 3d4 (something like that) million MDC and a big crater

as far as the artillery sized units I don't remember anything except absolutely positively destroys ....

my personal take on the reflex/syncro cannons is that they are functionally a weaponized fold drive weapon. ie they don't actually attack a target, they attack the space it happens to occupy. and rips an unstable opening into space/time the target then is ripped apart, and or falls through the tear (rift) and is removed what happens to it after the tear closes is up to the GM

I have only ever seen the damage listed as VS. a planet. Otherwise it has only ever listed "Destroys everything in beam's path"

That could be an interesting story, campaign arc. Getting caught in one, and you're sent to some random place in the universe or an alternative universe, say like Rifts earth.
