IF YOU WERE A MONSTER...
If you could play a MONSTER, what monster would you play? Try to keep in mind that one of the *challenges* of this question would mean that you'd have to try to play this MONSTER as a **GOOD** character. Do you think the "monster" could overcome the social stigma of being a vampire, or zombie or brain-eater?
Of the monsters listed in the poll, consider how you'd place them into your existing game. Would the GM or players warm to the idea of siding with *the enemy?* How would paranormal investigators and demon hunters side with a vampire or demon or ghost? Would this add depth to your campaign or take away from it?

Okay, I also went for the benevolent demon, also due to a character I've ran. It was (an admittedly waaaay bending of the rules) Rebel Infernal (MC)/Arcanist (BtS1) with a Taoist alignment. She was a fun character, prone to hysterics and temper tantrums, but her heart was always in the right place.
The character started out human, but went through all types of wacky things during the game, ended up changing species, and then eventually made the transition from Reformed Demon to Rebel Infernal. I ended up having to retire her after learning the "Convert PPE to Chi" ability, once the GM and I figured out exactly how much damage she could take (we didn't realize it for 6 months, but it ended up being a game imbalancer).
She still makes cameo appearances during down time and really rough adventures (at the GM's request).
Edit: Concerning the question about how does anyone know that they're dealing with a demon, for my character, all that negative chi gave it away pretty clearly. So I had to also roleplay dealing with people's suspicions, biases, and assumptions.

I'd go with a Werewolf, as their fits of monsterism are predictable and they are normal most of the time.

I'd go with a zombie with a heart of gold, so I can go around crackin' the bad guys' skulls open and dining on their brains.
Oh, wait. I already do that. Never mind.

Ash, when I read your post, I realized I'd neglected to include the polling choice for REFORMED MANIAC CLOWN....
I picked soulful vampire because there have been a couple of well done TV series out there. Forever Knight being one of them. He was a vampire police detective of sorts. It was out in the 80s, I think. I think it would be fun to play, but thinking further into the question...
It might be fun to play a benevolent demon. I mean, he/she would always have that demon-world side of things ruining happiness ----or trying to. Bigfoot would be neat too, like having that sci-fi walking carpet around, and I think that's part of the inspiration for the character, as Bigfoot sightings were HUGE in the 70s.
Patriotic Ghoul... hard to pull off, but hey, it could happen, right? Especially if the ghoul rose from Arlington National Cemetery... or a Civil War cemetery. So, patriotic might mean southern (hey, I saw that rebel flag!) or northern, depending on the side on which it served. It might have somehow come to unlife, not knowing why it was so frenzied hungry... not knowing why it had to KILL, but only kill and eat its perceived enemies, allowing "allies" to pass by freely. It's sort of sad, because as far as the patriotic ghoul would know, it's doing the right thing... for hearth and home.

And clowns, especially demonic clowns, never reform...they're evil to the core. They may pretend to be reformed or even benevolent for a while, but it's just an act to lure young children to their doom. Not that I ever do such a thing.
Timmy! Go back to your closet!
Sorry, folks. Got distracted for a moment. Anyway, clowns are too helluva evil to reform. Good night.

I had to cast my vote for the benevolent demon, which I would likely play as a Reformed Demon Infernal from Mystic China ( a great game to add to BtS).
Bigfoot was mighty tempting though.

I'm a black guy who loves and lives in the South: not all white Southerners are racists.
But, there are some who give the rest a bad name.

Personally, I think that we have a duty as role-players to try to anchor each other to reality a bit. To keep other gamers from being complete freaks and weirdos, or even psychopaths, if we can. Killer Cyborg

Another one for Altruistic Flesh Golem/Construction. I was going to use that as a character background for an AD&D fighter I had rolled up once, as a way of explaining his 18/91 strength. He was going to be a "gentle giant". I had just seen Randy Quaid's portrayal of Frankenstein's Monster on TBS at the time. The DM at the time thought it was too weird and didn't go for it.
Well, it looks like the ALTRUISTIC CONSTRUCTS put up a good fight, but in the end REGRETFUL WEREWOLVES won the day!
----SO FAR!!!
Coud this be the end? If so, hats off to the werewolves and many cheers. You guys made this thread very enjoyable.

As a fan of werewolves, I'm sure you've seen The Howling? GREAT werewolf movie, but darned scary.
There needs to be a werewolf movie set in the wild west. THAT would be cooool.

I liked the wild west setting very much and was rather disappointed that they didn't make one for Mage...

Hahaha... Here we are, petty humans wanting to roleplay monsters. The last several posts got my imagination going:
What if one of the gamers at your table changes into a werewolf, right there. He transforms rather quickly and violently, sending dice, tokens, miniatures, rule books, pizza and coke (the soft drink) flying into the air as he topples the table, steps back to eye his prey, bares his teeth in a menacing death grin and howls with malevolent ferocity.
Of course, the other gamers reveal in similarly dramatic fashion that they are: an alien grey, soulful vampire, benevolent demon, etc. When everyone comes to the conclusion that no one can hurt anyone without getting severely hurt themselves, they clean up the mess, still in monster form and resume role playing.
The werewolf roles a saving throw as he eats an entire box of pizza, cardboard not spared, as the game continues on into the full moon night...

Not to mention, you need silver knives to cut your wrists so you can bleed to "relieve the stress of living." now and then.
Then, you would heal so well, you wouldn't even have scars to show people how emo you are, unless you bought those new Hot Topic brand "Stick On Scars" for when you're just too Emo to actually cut yourself.

i'd love to play a "Good" Soulhunter Demon from PB-Fantasy in BtS2e...
What ?? They are Aberrant afterall...
Hunting for Souls they are charged to reclaim for someone...
The Soulhunter could even let the group know why he is there. He wont imprison anyone elses souls, just his "charged" victims
BTW
Which Books are all these Monsters in ??
I havent seen Bigfoot besides Rifts version of it...which sucked IMHO.
Werewolves are not bad though. I might Play one if allowed...
Soulful Vampire is Easy to play...overdone as late on TV/other games lately though. Besides i like bathing too much
Demon...count me in 100%
Golem...if i could be like Jade Hand from PB-Fantasy sure...turned into a jade-stone golem by magics...Frankenstein method, No way...
So are SOULHUNTERS an Option for the Demon ??

I have a dragon character in a PF game, although the GM wants to hold off on his return until after everyone reaches 10th level.
I also have a Gallu Fiend PC that I have written up, although I have yet to play him...he plays the part of a reformed Minotaur who is a Priest of Light.
Then there is my namesake...Borast is/was a Baron Cambian from the AD&D 2nd edition Fiend Folio.

There have been a lot of vampire shows and movies, but very few about werewolves. I don't think the furry fellas are getting their fare share of the TV and cinema.
