No T.R.G.-like OCCs for NGR or CS?

Well I don't have Australia anymore so I'm not 100% sure what a TRG OCC is (Tactical Response Group?) but it sounds like a SpecialOps type of thing. If thats the case both the CS and NGR have OCC's for what you've described.
It's been a while since I looked at the NGR OCC's but I recall they have two Intelligence OCC's and a Police OCC while the CS has the ISS NTSET.
Is there a huge difference between those CS/NGR OCC's and this TRG?

I thought the NTSET was also geared to handle the more mundane though. (I don't use any of the canon CS OCC's myself). Likewise I was under the impression that those Inteliigence OCC's in the NGR handled both military and law enforcement.
Though to be honest I don't see the problem with the CS or NGR using the military to apprehend someone. It's a totally different world.

Yes, TRG is the tactical response group. However both the CS and NGR only have a 'police' O.C.C. (CS: I.S.S. Peacekeeper, NGR: Police).. but neither group has an elite police unit to handle delicate situations; hostages, high-risk offenders, etc. I.S.S. NTSET -is- an elite group, but they're primarily tasked with anti-supernatural tasks or mundane policework. And intelligence is hardly the same as a small unit assigned to do the tough jobs your average beat cop can't.
Hence the tweak. The only special forces listed in the books are military ones and it doesn't make much sense that the police defer to the military for high-risk arrests and such. After all, the military is trained to kill, the police are trained to apprehend a subject alive.
Well in a lot of countries now that have militaristic governments, the distinction between military and police a fine line indeed. In the case of Australia's Tech Cities, the military and police are still separate branches. In places like the CS and the NGR, where any perp that is to difficult to handle by conventional police, you're probably looking a military level threat anyway. And since ISS and NGR Police seem to me like branches of the military instead of separate and distinct, I think it makes sense for them to call in the regular forces if the situation gets too hot, instead of having dedicated SWAT-type units.

I've been thinking along similar lines and working on a possible Rifter submission about Rapid Response Teams in Rifts. basically SWAT-like units that many nation-states deploy to respond to attacks on outlying communities and farmsteads. From an economy standpoint it makes more sense to have a few units with fast transport in central locations then it does to garrison every small town with a large enough force to deal with any attack.
Personally, I think that we have a duty as role-players to try to anchor each other to reality a bit. To keep other gamers from being complete freaks and weirdos, or even psychopaths, if we can. Killer Cyborg

I've always been of the impression that the CS and NGR would call in the military for operations the standard police couldn't handle.

My idea was to use nothing but existing OCCs and gear. I don't like adding new Character classes just because you can, if an existing class can do the job, then I'll always go with that.

Funny you should say that, as currently in Australia the Government it in the process of passing a bunch of anti-terrorism laws that are gonna give the police WAY too much power if you ask me, eg the power to detain without charge for up to two or three weeks where you aren't even allowed to tell anyone you are being detained (but you can call your family and say "Hi, I'm not dead" and that's about it) anyway this aint the place for a political rant, sorry.
