Had a BLAST last night! Between some skillful if I do say so myself ship weapon firing by Cormac (myself), Johannes (Calto40k), Felix (Monkra) and Shalyndra (Falloutmech) And awesome piloting by Shalyndra, we managed to wipe out the strange Zentradi/invid? hybrid ship! Victory is ours! Full details of course will come from DhAkael. But I had a good time!

Did some tweaking with the hause-roolz.
Nothing major; just a little somethin' somethin' to even the odds when dealing with Over-Technology ;)
P.S.; Over-Technology... it's a Macross thang.

Long story short, I've got a 'bandage' solution for reconciling the pittifully SHORT ranges for PW ship-based weaponry in comparrison to the super O.M.G. ranges of the Zentraedi cannons (1st edition, as PBooks has NOT and has no plans on publishing their cap-ship book for Hobotech).
That, and I always found the knife fighting ranges of the guns for PW cap-ships to be absurd.

“…the abyss stares back.” Aug?? P.A. 109
With the disruption of the summoning ritual, the local fauna (and even possibly flora), of Nabraeus Valley became blood maddened. Sleipnir quickly retrieved everyone in Team Alpha, the hover vehicle and even Lt. Moon’s Beta fighter. It was a close run thing too; the entire interior of the valley basin became a free for all feeding frenzy by every twisted form of life the resided in Nabraeus. A hurried conference was held over radio as crew & passengers of Sleipnir hastily stowed their gear, and it was decided that the least dangerous location to investigate (and possibly most profitable) was the mysterious hillside to the Western ridge. Sleipnir hovered over to said investigation site and “sterilized” a landing area close to the hill, but avoided damaging the crab shaped & humanoid mecha near it. That evening, Lt. Moon & James Cormac bonded over coffee’s and food while Tao-Shi attempted to reconcile her experiences with what she had been brought up to believe. Meanwhile the rest soon went off to their respective quarters, except for Fionna who was ordered to stay with Rika, due to the presence of “negative paranormal causality.” (Re; a luck curse) and Rika not wanting Fionna to break her neck getting out of bed. This decision had embarrassing (and amusing) consequences as Rika woke up half way through the ship-night, naked, and cuddling with her X/O.

At sunrise, all business, Rika laid out who would be going out and investigating the hillside. Fionna & Deiter would stay behind due to luck curse and no fully N.B.C. sealed armours for the two, while Shalyndra decided to remain behind as she did not feel a blades’-woman would be of any use. The rest however, would go. Entry into the hillside object wasn’t difficult; requiring only that the team scramble over the sprawled (and thankfully) inactive crab-like mecha. Inside, they saw almost organic rib-like structures composed of a metallic substance. A brief investigation showed that there were chambers close by both past one wall and also below their location. Johannes used his magical halberd to cut a way through the alien material into the next chamber (a much smaller volume); to either side he saw what looked like giant eye-lids made of the metallic substance. Lt. Moon suggested that they might be air-locks of some sort, while Rika supported the hypothesis. The psionic members of the group began to feel light headed as Johannes carved their way deeper, going downwards now. As the battle-magus descended down into one of the lower rooms, after causing a pressure shift (the later chambers having positive pressure) he encountered a humanoid machine, similar in style to the crab-mecha leaning against one of the walls and an airlock leading deeper into the structure was open: source of the higher pressure air. Felix carved a small marker into the wall and followed the rest of the team. Meanwhile, un-noticed by anyone, Rika fell unconscious and slumped to the floor in the first chamber that had been opened.

Outside, the Sleipnir reported to Fionna that a massive dimensional anomaly building up centered inside the hill. Fionna attempted to communicate a warning to her exploring team-mates. The radio was unable to penetrate.

In the alien structure, the rest of Team Alpha along with Lt. Moon noticed that Rika was no longer with them and returned to find her unconscious. To further heighten their unease, the damage to the alien metal was beginning to heal from Johannes’ “excavations” and Felix’s direction mark had been removed. In a panic, the exploring team (aside from Mr. Johannes Teufel, whose bloody-mindedness came to the fore, so he began to go further in) decided a tactical retreat was in order.

They were too late.

Hillside & Object, Sleipnir and over three cubic km of Caliban landscape were dimensionally transposed in a D-Fold event. Not wasting time, Johannes cut another opening, this time to outside; not realizing that outside was now the vacuum of space. Fortunately Sleipnir & Fionna were quick to recover from the D-Fold event and before the explorers could die from explosive decompression, they activated the teleport grid and brought the rest of Sleipnirs’ crew back on board. Sadly all was not well; Rika soon began to start screaming as whatever intelligence was controlling the now revealed alien space craft (Lt. Moon, once she could get a look at it, remarked it looked identical to a Zentraedi Salaan Scout gunship) began to speak through her. Leena Shidow quickly took the captain to the med-bay after administering a strong sedative to her. Disordered requests for information from the rest bombarded Sleipnir, which was fortunately able to determine that they were no longer near Caliban, and were in fact 300 LY distant. Teufel attempted to try and usurp command authority from Fionna faraday, demanding they return to Caliban and report to higher authority, not realizing that on a naval vessel on detached duty (even paramilitary) the captain and X/O ARE “THE” highest authority.

While the two domineering personalities began their territorial threat displays at each other, cooler heads headed up to the bridge to see about making sure nothing else would go wrong.

Things went wrong.

In order:
* Rika began screaming (while restrained) for the crew to “Kill the monster, before it finds more to wake up! Kill it before the brood begins to swarm!” Her hysterics then switched over to Motavian standard / Al-bhed language. Felix & Leena did what they could to keep her sedated (to no good effect).
* The “not-quite” Salaan-Scout had gone completely EM dark; absorbing every iota of available EM radiation in the new solar system. Then a high energy build up was detected as two multi-terawatt plasma cannons discharged at Sleipnir’s bow; one being blocked by the forward shield before blowing out the generator while the other seared through the first 3 layers of hull-plating.
*Johannes had to use his own mana-reserves to power the magitech anti-energy system due to the fact something had drained all the magicite PPE batteries.
* Retaliatory fire from Sleipnir by Shalyndra, James and eventually Fionna & Johannes had no trouble striking deep into the hull of the alien vessel. The first few volleys however began to leave auto-stigmatic sympathetic damage upon Rika. Only quick action by Leena and application of anti-psi “sleeper” drugs kept the NuMan captain from suffering further damage.
* Leena miscalculated trying to teleport a quickly cobbled together nuclear bomb. The device detonated equidistant between the two vessels.
* A final concentrated laser-cannon volley and particle-beam lance fire cored the alien ship, causing the reactor to loose containment and explode.

After the battle, the Sleipnir required dry dock to effect repairs. A world not more than 15 hours away at maximum sub-light had been detected just prior to the skirmish and it was decided to travel there. An atmosphere of Nitrogen & oxygen (though thin) had been observed on long range scans. The crew rested while they could, leaving Fionna & Shalyndar to take turns piloting.
On arrival at the detected planet, “inhabitable” was a loose term to describe the tortured globe before Team Alpha’s eyes.

A ring composed of massive rocky fragments (of a former moon it was surmised) encircled the cratered and scored planet. Some of the craters were seen to glow visibly with Cherenkov radiation even on the dayside hemisphere, showing that titanic energies had been unleashed. In fact, James Cormac had to run several sweeps to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating: the worst of the craters seemed to have been knocked out of phase with sidereal space-time, being 2 to 15 seconds out of synch.

Regardless, Shalyndra touched down on the world with no problems, well away from the worst of the radiation readings. Leena Shidow and one of the resident repair drones (Munin) began work as soon as they could, while Felix and Johannes prepared to go out and investigate something Felix had picked up just before re-entry.

An acoustical beacon of 30 second duration, repeating at 2 minute intervals, 300 miles distant from their landing point. The sender: unknown. The message content: unknown.

The date is now September 5th, P.A. 109.

Just a suggestion to my crew mates, but might it not be a good idea to attempt to decipher the message before we look for the sender? Thoughts?

Lost Seraph wrote:Gatchaman is a team anime. My plan would be either a Techno Wizard who inspired by old TV shows, animation, etc to make TW devices and vehicles based around them, a physical gestalt that generates from people with memories of the show, or a mystically bestowed character that yells out various Japanese sentai team quotes and changes costume each time to match said team (potentially powers as well, but that can get a into lot of bookeeping issues). It's not much different then the magic weapon guy I had who gained power to smite evil doers via a signed bass guitar from Kiss (Gene Simmon's axe bass), and would lose his powers if the band ever broke up. I like variation or unusual characters, like the Simvan Cyber Knight who never encountered any threats because he was always away when the party encountered trouble. Or the Shing Temporal Mage that followed a bear from her homeworld through a gate and ended up in England. She joined the order of the Bear, a support and agent organization set up to find the 13 lost relics of Arthur to make King Arthuu the rightful king of England. And so on. I released all of the Juicer, Crazy, Borg, high power stuff from my system when I started with Rifts back in 1990. It's about concept, and then setting up a character based around the concept that makes me and the GM happy.

I was just curious how you were going to get that concept off the ground with one character. Now I know. Good idea about the TW honestly, of course I'd like it if Moon stuck around.

September 5th, P.A. 109, Unknown Planet.
* Leena Shidow is outside along with the spider-bot Huginn, repairing the damage to the exterior hull. Though the atmosphere is technically breathable, the radiation is enough above ‘background’ to be unhealthy for long periods of time un-protected. For some reason she feels a pull or “call” somewhere on the planet, though she is unsure of how far, but the general direction is (compass-wise) east of their landing site.

* Johannes Teufel Saddles up his robo-steed to go investigate the beacon roughly 300 miles due North North-East. James Cormac suggests caution, but Teufel’s blood is up and he goes by Fionna’s permission, NOT the scholar’s, and heads out. Though to appease the more paranoid of the team, he has his mount go only at 60 mph. (a total of 5 hours journey to the location of the beacon). Along the way, he hears and sees “things” out of the corner of his eye, but when he turns to confront them, they stop as if they never were.

Along his journey, ‘Yanns’ thinks he hears thunder and other more ominous sounds (such as screaming human and non-human voices) but as he turns to see what is making the noise… nothing. Through the blasted moss & lichen covered rocks, he sees what looks like old ruined buildings long destroyed and reclaimed by the planets’ weather.
On the fourth hour, Johannes rides over a low rolling hill-range and catches sight of his ultimate destination. In the distance he sees high-tech modern looking pre-fabricated structures, but something is not quite right…

* James Cormac, Felix Perez & Capt. Rika Hanlah-Falkon confer in medical. The NuMan woman is looking much healthier but is still weak from the psychic shock & auto-stigmatic damage she took when linked to the alien warship. The 3 sit around the captain’s sick-bed with portable data-tablets, linked to Sleipnir’s data-bases, trying to decode the beacon’s message before Johannes reaches it.

It takes nearly four hours for the trio to cobble together a working translation of the beacon. Felix, nursing an asprin cocktail with a soda-chaser (as he was developing the wickedest migraine) has a eureka moment and pinpoints the exact location of the beacon’s location and cleans up the signal.
Good news: It is where Johannes was headed.
Bad news: It is where Johannes was headed.
James & Rika, heads almost touching as they read each others data pads finally nail down the language used in the beacons’ message; an Imperial (TGE) dialect of Trade 5 [the trade tounge used by insectae and reptillian sentients].
The message fills them with forboding as they scramble to establish contact with Johannes.

<<Imperial excavation mission Tau-Omicron 797.
Alert-1 message to any imperial forces within Necrosis sector grid 8553 X 0025 X 1004.>>

The voice changes from an computer generated twittering to a live voice (species unkown).

<<“They came from below…”>> *static*
*Message repeats*

* Shalyndra encounters Deiter Brandt in the middile of a training exercise, one of the 2 spare S8 Drop-Commando powersuits being fussed over by Muninn near by. If / when asked why the suit is in the main hall, the Calibanite shrugs and mentions that Rika gave him permission to begin basic level traning with the armour, and that one of the spider-bots would be able to fit-him for it. As this goes on, Shalyndra feels a sligh unease and glances down at her mask. One of the rosesbuds on her mask’s decorative painting has bloomed.
SOMETHING supernatural is nearby but very weak in comparrison to what’s been dealt with recently.

~**~

Felix, James and Tao-shi (after recovering from a minor concussion) hurried off to intercept Johannes using ground vehicles (and in the case of Mr. Cormac, his own feet: sonic speed mutation and all that). Along the way the trio were subjected to a feeling of unease, eventually culminating in James Cormac re-living the horrors of the planets final days. Images of fire from the sky, giant warmachines and human and non-human bodies being blasted apart or immolated surged through his psyche. Fortunately the mental assault ended almost as quickly as it began.

Meanwhile, Johannes arrived at the location of the beacon mere minutes before the rest of the away team could reach him. Carnage caught his attention; red armoured figures that appeared to be giant humanoid iguanas, wolfen, and snakemen (or the pieces of same) were strewn about what looked to be a small military garrison or archeological dig site. Very little in the way of recognizable technology aside from some side arms could be found. When the other trio arrived they quickly established a video link to Sleipnir and the rest of Phoenix Alpha. Those with knowledge of the Tri-Galactic polities easily identified the large humanoid reptiles and the wolfen as Kreeghor and Trans-galactic Imperial Wulfen. The lack of tanks, power suits or even drop shuttle made most of the team to think that the ill fated imperials were part of an advance scout group that had been raided but unknown creatures.

While they gathered up as much salvage as they could, tremors from the ground had Joahnnes sixth sense begin to peak, while Felix could ‘hear’ the vibrations. Thinking earthquake the team hastened their first salvage gathering…when Felix mentioned the contents of the beacons’ message ‘they came from below’ it was if the words were a summoning. In an explosion of hypersonic vibration and semi molten earth, a massive 80ft long metallic shelled scorpion lunged from its borehole to strike at Johannes robot horse; puncturing its reactor shielding. This drove Johannes into a blood rage and he counter-attacked once he could pick himself off the ground with his battle fury halberd. Only 4 strikes landed when the scorpion creature leaped nearly 1100ft away, but James & Felix were there to pick up the slack. As Tao-shi Moon took to the sky in her Cyclone battroid, a brace of bio-missiles launched from concealed clusters at the scorpions’ leg “shoulders” and chased her for nearly a full minute before she used counter-fire to knock the missiles down. A final surprise (and insult) was the reveal of a bio-electric railcannon along the creatures’ spine that hurled a hypersonic armour piercing spike through Felix’s hover cycle. James noticed that the heavily damaged scorpion was beginning to regenerate and as the quartet braced themselves for a last stand, Shalyndra flew in with Sleipnir just as another two scorpion creatures emerged. A quick dual burst with the Sleipnirs' forward railcannons convinced the other two scorpions to leave. Joahnnes, his blood up, rode his damaged warhorse down into one of the boreholes, watching as the synthflesh burned away from his horses’ robotic frame. Leaping down onto the giant arthropod he drove his battle-fury again and again into the back of the creature. On his final strike he breached something he should not have.
On the surface, Felix James & Tao-Shi watched a geyser of fusion fire eject Joahnnes Teufel into the air along with the molten hulk of his steed. The battle-magus survived, but only by the fact he had layered energy shields. Otherwise he would have shared the fate of his trusty warhorse.

Rika teleported the team into the Sleipnirs' cargo bay, and after they decontaminated, she then completed a quick recovery items within the two remaining buildings of the imperial dig-site.

Thus ended the 5th. Of September, PA 105.

I'll wait until AFTER this coming session to do another chapter.
MOST of the last session was taken up by pointless zeging of questions to the GM, and combat taking far too much time to resolve.
I wish to have more STORY material to type up first.

 *LOL*
Looks like I have moar work for m'self this week.
Not only do I have, IRL, a paying gig via my PShoop skillz, I also have taken on writing up the NPC romantic interest of a secondary character for one of the players (a secondary character that hasn't even been intro'd yet).
Ah well... I was getting bored anyways so now I won't be bored for a while. :fl:

Well, we have me, Calto, and Seraph may be a bit late but he's in. Any word from Monkra or Fallout?

Nyet. :-?
Then again, they rarely respond to e-mails because I don't think they are as compulsive as most of us (re; I check 5 times per day at most and at LEAST once in morning and once before crashing-out).

Addendum
Looks like we have enough to give it a go for Mar. 31.
Oh and the profile for the latest NPC. Warning; "Spoilers" :D
