I like bad. My comment quote is from Peter Jackson's very first film "Bad Taste". Starring himself as Derrik. It's about humans as the new galactic fast food taste sensation. It is both terrible and awesome.

Cool! Unfortunately "Legend of the Overfiend" was just plain bad and wrong and disgusting in all the WRONG ways, not, Bad in a slightly amusing sense, Bad as in "I'm so disgusted I want to find the video producers do horribly violent things to them".

That isn't anime :P :D

But if we're including that then what about the entire Justice League Series including the cross dimensional one.

Good point :) But Anime normally refers specifically to Japanese animation many even refer to anime quality animation by Americans as Americame. Oh for the smile just do a colon and a close parenthesis or press full editor and it will transfer to full editor WITH your text.

But JLA has Supernatural , magic, robots , power armor, mdc weapons and sdc ones as well, hovercraft , dimension hoping , monsters, genetic engineering just like Gargoyles but also has as Mecha... excuse me Giant Robots and psionics and mutant powers.

Rifts is HU in a post apocalyptic setting with a plot tool to allow you to bring in characters from any game. :clown:

In the US the term anime means japanese animation. Or Animation produced for japan.
The most prevalent feature of anime is a plot line that threads the episodes together. While most american animation each episode is self contained.

Um... so what is the thread of FLCL? :) So does that mean that Babylon 5 is the live action anime of the "space opera" genre? Since before Enterprise there was no real plot line? That is why I loved B5 there was an episode plot a seson plot and a plot that covered the whole five years.

Sounds like the best Star Trek series, Deep Space 9.

Yeah JMS tried selling his concept to paramount before DS9 came out, they declined and a couple years later what do you know... DS9 didn't have anywhere near the connectivity though. It was a little more connceted than the standard ST but really still seemed to have the occasional episode that did absolutely nothing for the advancement of the plot. Also the plot twists were as predictable as an episode of The Outer Limits or a Wes Craven movie. Never left you saying "wow I can see that now but I never would have thought about that possibility." But then again some people are suprised by the endings of TOL and WC movies. I did like DS 9 but I'd say my favorite ST was Enterprise just because it went so far off the standard.

This makes me think I'd almost prefer a show about Rifts compared to a movie about it. As sweet as a big budget movie would be it wouldn't feel like getting together friday night with the buddies to throw some dice as much as an episodic show.

Hooray for Metalocalypse!

That is why they should do the movie Rifts where it starts with Chaos Earth and then a series going through the dark age and then another movie "The Rise of Prosek" (Karl's father). Then another series up to Karl taking power, another movie "Asending the Black Throne" up to 109 PA and then another series that will just drive on from there. If the movies are live action the series need to be animated, anime style/quality. Have contests, through PB Forums, for our PCs to be drawn into the show or even made permanent characters.

I've seen that one. It was interesting. I think it was done off of an Asimov Short Story. The computer reminds me of ARCHIE heck its even kind of brainy looking. But I don't think ARCHIE would set up the events the same way.

Blue Gender

Basically the earth has been conquered by a mysterious race of massive insects that are constantly evolving and almost impervious to conventional weapons, or at least outright warfare. Humans are almost extinct and live in small primtive bands, or turn into bandits using what military tech they can scavenge.

But there's a group of humans tucked away safe in space who preach mankind's manifest destiny to control the earth. Armed with their versions of Mecha (most about the size of a glitterboy or ulti-max) they're hatching a plot to reconquer earth for humanity, and nothing will stop them.

I'm hoping somone mentioned Dragonball Z, if only for the excessive levels of punching and time spent just killing one powerful badguy. :)

Blue Gender is noted in the 26th in a giant list hidden under a spoiler alert. Great show

I hate DBZ it is just one extended fight with minor breaks and the fight scenes suck as they're just an eclectic collection of frames designed to be a mass of movement to attract children. Not saying your a child just saying why it is that way. Some good fight scenes can be seen in Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. Where it looks like the artists had to work for the whole scene to make it look fluid, instead of taking some 10 frames and randomizing them thousands of times. Heck they may as well have just put in a dust cloud as well then they'd have to draw that much less.

George Labour wrote:I agree that Moribito is a unappreciated master piece. My comment about DBZ was meant more as a joke both about its content, and about how somethings in rifts can seem to take forever either because of regeneration or because they're a Metlza drone with over 5000 MDC. Though I retain a certain fondness for dragon ball despite its flaws.

I might also reccomend the Vampire Hunter D novels that have been released in English over the last few years. They're not exactly the height of literature, but they do depict a post apocalyptic world where super high tech and high powered mysticism meet.

 You know thinking of it that way... sometimes Rifts is very DBZ. You have some 10 or so moves (likely less) that you perform over and over until one person or the other falls down and for some reason the combat usually is done on a one on one basis... probably so the GM doesn't have to draw it out so long. Ohhhh now I kinda feel insulted... by myself.

You don't like the VHD anime? Silent Mobius is good for that too.

I'd argue the Rifts movie likely won't capture Rifts. You do know that if it is the possessive of a plural like Rifts the appostrophy comes after the 's' right? Just wondering not trying to be nit picky and saying you don't know just trying to help. So I hope you hear it in the teacher's voice and not the berrating peer voice. :)

I know it's been a while since I've posted on here. Favorite animes that remind me of Rifts or any other Palladium title: Macross Plus (great for those Robotech players), Akira, Ghost in the Shell.

One comic that comes to mind is one from the 1990s put out by Defiant Comics called Dark Dominion. The comic was based in Manhattan and featured the main character Michael Alexander.

Alexander was the author of a book entitled, "Dark Dominion," in which he explored the idea that another world occupied the same spacetime as our own. In this alternate world, housed in the sub-stratum of our world, demons arose from the fears of human beings. The only way to see this hidden world was to put aside one's fears.

Of course, I don't want to do any conversions. I just need to think of a Palladium Books equivalent. I suppose entering the Astral Realm or Dreamstream and eliminate the spirits that way.
