He usually likes to play his exact opposite...slow witted, big strong, ready to fight and yet still keeping his heroic nature. Now he says that he wants to be smart, heroic, and overall a good guy with some serious skills and made for combat. He doesn't want to be a mechanic, but kind of a caretaker without it being about science or medical (too close to his reality). He wants a challenging O.C.C. that would fit in to a military unit seamlessly and without his O.C.C. calling for a specific duty.

Sounds like he might be wanting something along the lines of a Sheriff, or Deputy OCC from the New West book. They're both worth considering.

I love that direction Merc, but the OCC's have been brought to him and he wasn't biting. Mercdog, I have the feeling I have overlooked a lot of stuff here. Any more generic type OCC's you can think of that doesn't quite associate in that way? You know like something generic, but like a soldier without it being a merc....no offense... :-D

None taken. :)

There's also quite a few good 'Regular Folk' OCCs in the Rifts Australia book. Pro-Athletes, SWAT Types, Soldiers, Pilots, etc.

A particularily favorite OCC (or non-player character) to inspire some adventures is the City Trader. Even if you're not playing them for Australia, they could be used as liasions for any large city/kingdom, or the even the Black Market if you incorporate that into your games.

I've been in those types of games. Usually there are more than a few players, so typically the GM may restrict your character choices based on his format. They are not always that bad.

I have never been that restrictive, that's why the players wanted restrictions. Also I think they are just tired of being powered or in groups where someone is powered. It DOES happen.

EDIT: Not to try and sound all, "I walk on clouds and all." but most folks tend to like my games man. One thing that most people really love is the fact that I don't have a character myself.

Not seeing the problem with someone being powered in a group, it should increase the chances of the group succeeding and your individual character's success as a result. Bob the Nightbane Sorcerer in a group of Special Forces characters really helps the group achieve its goals and do it without someone having to go 'Damn that monster just toasted my character got to make another now', or at least make that much less likely.

I didn't make the restriction. They all came together and told me about it. I think they are in a sense taking it off the program because we never have in the past.

Professional Gambler (New West) - good OCC to gather intelligence
Rogue Scientist (RUE) - Skills to complement the Operator, plus enough skill slots to cover as a medic.

Yeah I suggested Rogue Scholar and he started asking about Fixer and Rogue Scientist.

You know, in 17yrs on running Rifts I have never had a Fixer, Cyberdoc, or Rogue Scientist...usually there would be a Mystic or Priest instead of Fixer or Cyberdoc and a Ley Line Walker would have similar skills to a Rogue Scientist. That's all well in good, but this new idea is getting me re-interested in the game as well. I think I started going through the motions just like they were.

Mind you, this was supposed to be CS-gone-native at first before someone brought up Paratrooper OCC on another thread and I told the other players about it. I have had the book for years (Merc Adventures) and completely overlooked it. Saw Combat Mage (a Blade Mage used those spells in my old campaign) and saw Cold Blooded...never saw Paratrooper OCC!!!

Just make it a non-CS RCSG, just as you'd do with a non-CS Grunt, or Military Specialist.

Otherwise you'll have to do something like a Rogue Scholar with several skill selections in Lore.

Lt. Braylon Minter "Falcon" - 21yrs old 2nd Level Paratrooper Human
Cpl. Tay Forrester "Warzone" - 23yrs old 2nd Level Headhunter Anti Robot Specialist Human
Jeremiah Herks "Jeremiah" - 22yrs old 3rd Level Gunfighter Human
Leon Walker "Dub" - 23yrs old 3rd Level Dinosaur Hunter Human
Brodie Mueller "Rigz" - 25 yrs old 3rd Level Operator Human
Lincoln Barnes "Link" - 20 yrs old 1st Level Bounty Hunter Human
Dr. Lila Paige "Doc" - 21 yrs old 2nd Level Rogue Scientist Human

The stories behind the characters made it very easy during character creation. You may notice the varying Levels of the characters, but this has to do with the fact that either the person made a roll that would have allowed them to take Psionics and they refused or most commonly just asked for it and made the case of why. Because it IS in fact a non powered game, I did see the benefits. Link (the Bounty Hunter) just wanted to play it straight up.

I'll have more on all of this later. Too tired right now.

The way the characters are built up and their storylines are just amazing. It makes me very happy to know that there are still some creative players in my midst.

Thing that I am loving the most is the overall idea of how they all met. YEAH!!! Instead of the "running into each other" plotline, they have already been working together for 3 months and know one another and have their roles all figured out.
