So have you played Rifts recently? (2-4 weeks)

Nope

Do you play regularly?

Nope. though this may change.

Do you like the game but don't play at all?

I had dedicated my limited gaming time to other endeavors than Tabletop gaming for some time. Yes i like the game, but no, until recently, i hadn't considered playing.

Have you played in the past but not anymore?

Currently true.

I am just curious to see how many posters (dedicated fans) on these boards actually dont play the game at all anymore.

Haven't played recently, or regularly, I like the ideas and the writing, not so much the game rules. Played a few times in the past, mostly owned the books for reading purposes. Mostly a loner, so haven't had the opportunity to game that often, but wouldn't mind doing it once a week if it was available.
And if... somone whipped out a mini gun. We run and hide. lol.

Now.. some guys won't... and you can say nice things at their funeral. "He was a brave soul.... if stupid.. he didn't take cover when the guy whipped out the mini gun on us that day.. but his blood-fountaining corpse did give us a chance to sneak around and clonk the machine gunner on the head with a rock. Rest in Pieces.... Swiss Cheese Man.....

I haven't played in more than a decade. Not for lack of wanting to but rather because I have not been able to find anyone to play with, locally or online. I know, I could do play-by-post, totally not interested in that.

If you're interested in chatroom games I know there are numerous posters who run them in che chatrooms here. DhAkael invited me to his, and has been very patient with my computer problems keeping me from actively playing yet. Talk to him, and I know there are others.

chat-room play actually can work pretty well assuming everyone is a relatively fast and accurate typist. Even better if the chat program has dice-rolling built in so that there's no shadow of a doubt about folks fudging their rolls.

I don't care about canon answers. I'm interested in good, well-reasoned answers and, perhaps, a short discussion of how that answer is supported or contradicted by canon.

If I don't provide a book and page number, then don't assume that I'm describing canon. I'll tell you if I'm describing canon.

Cool. I'll check it out. I was looking at roll20 a while ago. Does anyone here use that?

Practically every weekend for going on 6 or even 7 years now.
As long as I have 3 players, and a specific PC (who is absent) hasn't become crucial to the plot-at-present, I go ahead with runnin' the game.
I think the LONGEST I was forced into inactivity was nearly 2 months, and that was due to one specific player having IRL issues (unrelated to the game or players), and having only two other active players in the crew at the time.

Aside from that, my campaign meta-story has been going on since Edition 1, first printing of 'Rifts', in one incarnation or other almost continuously.

So, yeah...

Side note, it is much more difficult finding a GM for me to be a PLAYER.
I'm with one game right now on Thursday evening on-line, but, ummm, errrm :erm: I really haven't seen anything in the chat room games that impresses me. Chiefly because I loathe 'round robin' re; canon style of resolving combat actions.
It takes forever in a table top session, it takes up tripple the ammount of time on-line. I kid not, I lyrked one game where a SINGLE round of combat took 3 hours.
No lie.

School is keeping me from it right now, but I play whenever I can. Love the settings. Can't wait for the rules changes that have been discussed here.
There's a reason...and a very good one...that I have certain people in this forum blocked both here and on Facebook.

I can see an illustration of that nearly every time I come here.

I run Rifts when I get a chance. Sometimes in my life it is very often, other times it is not as often. I've been running the game for years and know many people who run and play.

I have a game of Heroes Unlimited that is eventually going to shift to Rifts earth. It's play by post on FB so it's taking forever. I'm also thinking of becoming an MA and running some single serving games.

I was in an online game and ran an online game for a couple years, but haven't had a rifts game in like 6 months now. Have been playing mostly pathfinder, because that is what people like to play. I have tried to get on the palladium chat server, but for some reason, it won't allow satellite connections. When Mack and NMI looked at it, they said that my satellite connection was jumping IPs and that somehow throws off the palladium server, so I mostly play online with OpenRPG.

When I did play it was weekly. I like online play because I live in a small town without a game store, so getting a table top group together would be difficult at best.

I am constantly surprised by the number of people that like to read the palladium books, and talk about the game, but don't really ever play it. I guess it is a testament to Palladium's writing that it is interesting enough as fiction to stand on its own without being a game for some people.

I don't have time to run a game right now, but when my schedule frees up, I am planning on running a South America exploration game. It will be weekly and on OpenRPG. My friend Lando is supposed to be starting a Europe game this month, and it will probably be weekly and I will play that if he goes forward with it. I wish palladium were more popular, I would like to play more often, but it seems that people are mostly enamored with other games right now. For whatever reason, newness seems to sell, and a 20+ year old game, even one as original as Rifts, is just not "kewl" with the kiddies I guess. Too bad, it has a lot to offer.

I will eventually own the primary books for each setting (heck, maybe I'll splurge and just buy everything) because I like the settings that Palladium creates. Do I ever intend to run one of these games? Maybe. But it's far more likely that I'll use one of these settings with another system (probably homebrew FUDGE or some other rules-light system).

Even if I never play again, I do enjoy reading the books.
